NCAA 2005

Wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on NCAA Football 2005.....

Being able to play it online for Xbox makes it awesome. They have enhanced some features.....Overall I am happy....Wanted to get other's opinions

I have the PS2 version and I'm not able to play online, so I just stick to Dynasty Mode.

Overall I like the game. The new homefield advantage is a huge extra that adds a level of depth to the game. My biggest gripe is that it seems slow at times. Waiting for weeks to be simulated seems to take longer than previous years. I've also noticed that during celebrations some players will walk through other players. I like the running game a lot better this time around with the more agile running backs, but passing seems near impossible. I'm left running the option 90% of the time.

I'd recommend it, but next year EA better come out with some massive improvements.

djtestudo 07-19-2004 05:08 PM

It is a LOT slower then last year's, however, it is a very good game otherwise. I especially like the Dynasty improvements, such as recruiting "athletes" and especially being able to change player positions in the game.

I noticed how slow it was as well. I didn't know what to think of the new discipline system though. It didn't make sense to need points to suspend players. I figured it would be the other way around where you need points to wine and dine the athletic director to loosen the penalties. You know, maybe 25 points to take him to a strip club. Now that would be serious serious football :D.

I did kinda like the crowd noise thing for awhile...then it got a little annoying. Especially if you're not the home team.

I also noticed how hard it is to pass. It seems more like 2003 than last years to me.

Last, it seemed too hard again to defend the pass (mainly against the cpu). I thought last year's got way better about this, but it seems to have reverted back to being pretty tough. Maybe I just need to get used to the speed thing.

Most of that is nitpicking...other than it being kind of slow.

This game makes me want to whip the controller through the tv with all the dropped passes. Maybe its because I'm playing as NIU, but if I fling a pass instead of lofting it its guarenteed to hit the reciever in the hands and fall to the ground. Running does seems to be easier this year though.

djtestudo 07-21-2004 08:10 PM

I've also noticed that the scheduling system is really bitchy. Last year, you could schedule any D-AA team at any time. Now, for some reason, when I try to change teams, there are times when I don't get any D-AA options.

Any idea why, or how I can get around it?

It may be that all the D-AA teams have scheduled games on those dates, that's a possiblity.

I've noticed one thing more that really gets on my nerves. Defensive backs appear to have super jumping ability (at least with the CPU) because no matter how I throw the ball, there's always (read 85% of the time) a defensive back jumping up and swatting the ball away. I can loft the ball that he'll use his super running ability to catch up with my reciever and bat the ball down. If I fling it hard he'll jump 13 feet in the air to bat the thing down. The passing games sucks. I'll stick with running.

I have played a few games online only against people I know cause of all the cheating little pussies out there. But something that is nerving me a little bit is the fact that after getting ready to stomp a mud hole in my friends ass with 30 seconds left in the game and up 28-7 AT HIS HOME FIELD, I hopped up out of the chair to grab the phone only to knock the controller plug out, I promptly plug it back in only to tell me that I have been removed from the game for too many plug pulls!!!

WTF!!! is that all about? I know this eliminates cheating but I honestly knocked it out getting up to get to the phone, he said he has had the same thing happen to him his kids yanked out the headset while playing someone and it booted him too. This is a crock I mean one unplug with 30 seconds left and a 20+ point lead I seriously doubt I was trying to cheat someone.

I usually play the same game for a couple years because really all you get is newer players etc, nothing really huge changes from year to yer they re-vamp a ton every other year it seems. I have to say having not played an NCAA game the last few years this one is pretty cool. The cutting ability needs some work, I do not like how they throw down the hand to sort of pivot and turn on, they seem to be running around a cone or something instead of making a sharp cut to run in another direction. Gameplay seems solid and lots of options I would say a MUST BUY for any college football fan

I love this game, I don't mind the passing system, mainly because I'm an old school type who creams his pants over awesome option plays and bone-crushing blocks that result in big run gains by the fullback for crying out loud. Anyways, enough of the joking around; yeah, the bullet passes that get dropped annoy the hell out of me some times, but I just found my go-to-receiver who can catch anything even if he had one arm cut off, so it's become less annoying. The crowd factor is great, because it's awesome to crush another team and see the fans look at each other and say, "Dude, this sucks ass, let's bail." Anyways, I think it's great.

If you don't want your receiver to drop passes, play Madden. This is college football, and these are student athletes. They're going to make bonehead plays sometimes. Their abilities are far lower on purpose.

As a fan of UNLV, I speak from heartbreaking experience when I say that the poor play of NCAA 2005 athletes matches well with the real world.

I'm new to this game... can anyone tell me what all the different Player ratings ? Some are pretty obvious, but others like BTK, THA, THP, PBK, etc are not...

Any other hints would be great too...

THANKS

BTK = Breaking Tackle, the ability to break a tackle
THA = Throwing Accuracy
THP = Throwing Power
PBK = Pass Blocking ability
RBK = Run Blocking

In general, to figure this out I just looked at the position and thought of the things the player should and shouldn't be good at. Lineman are going to have blocking ability and strength and little of anything else. QB's will have good throwing attributes. Running backs will have speed (SPD), acceleration (ACC), agility, tackle breaking. WR's have speed and catching (CTH).

This is the one series that I really wish was on PC, and I don't want to go buy a console to play it.

Agility - how easily the player can change direction
Accelleration - how fast the player can get up to speed
Catching - ability to catch the ball (higher means fewer drops)
Carrying - ability to carry the ball (higher means fewer fumbles)
Jumping - how high you can jump
Break Tackle - ability to break tackles
Tackle - ability to tackle
Throw Power - how far/hard you can throw the ball
Throw Accuracy - how accurate you are throwing
Pass Block - ability to block for the QB
Run Block - ability to block for the runner
Kick Power - how far you can kick
Kick Accuracy - how accurate you are kicking
Stamina - the amount of time a player can play without tiring
Injury - the likelyhood of getting hurt (higher means less likely)

Hello, my name is DJ, and I'm an NCAA Football 2005-aholic...

Hmmm, anybody know how to load up the stats from this year and do your own playoff tournament? Or does that all have to be done online by EA?

I recommend hitting Triangle/Y the instant your receiver should be making the catch.

Don't switch control to him, just hit Triangle/Y when he should make an effort to catch the ball.

It should increase the amount of catches your players make, no joke.

That works fairly well. Same with playing coverage. If one on one and the ball is thrown deep, switch right before it gets there and swat it. Or if a pick is heading your way, it's an easy way to make sure you get the interception.

Also, I've found that when you learn how switch to the receiver early to complete a path/break to the ball, you'll almost never throw an incomplete pass. You just have to be really good at it and learn how to use quarterback control extremely well also.

heccubusiv 01-15-2005 09:25 PM

passing is a lot harder even on the better teams, but i find defending the pass easier even on the higher diffuculties i have no problem picking off passes, but my recievers never seem to catch the ball. I mean as Notre dame i expect to drop some passes but my recievers are getting drafted but are still dropping 15 passes a game. I watch a lot of college football and never see that many drop passes not even d-II

Whew! I thought this was going to be an early thread on why Auburn's schedule was already the weakest of anybody else's for next year. :lol:

djtestudo 01-16-2005 10:25 PM

Anybody else like to create their own school and build them up?

Probably my favorite part of playing.

Yeah, it's kind of fun. I also enjoy making a league with all teams/div. 1-aa schools. I just wish I could figure out a way to make coach options to have a significant impact on simulating games. Maybe it does and I'm not just seeing it.
