What happened to Donald Love in GTA 3?

So I just recently replayed GTA 3 and I found myself just as confused as when I first played it. There's one cut scene where you go to Donald Love for work and he's just not there. All you see is a box. So, ummmm, I don't get it. Is there some deeper meaning to the box that I'm missing? Where did Donald Love go? If anybody can explain this, please do.
Me am confused....

been a long time since i played that, but I don't remember ever talking to a box. There were a couple of scenes at the mechanics where the guy you were talking to was under a car on a creeper. . . was that it?

No, no, the mechanic was Joey.
Donald Love was the Donald Trump type guy who owned all the radio stations and you had to turn the gangs against each other for him. And you don't talk to the box in the cut scene, you just walk to the area where Donald Love should be, see the box, and leave. You get no new mission from this cut scene, and it doesn't seem to advance the story, so I'm guessing I missed some hidden meaning, like maybe the box is like the briefcase in Pulp Fiction and is open to interpretation. Or maybe there's something much more obvious that I'm just missing.

i think the cut scene just shows that Donald Love used you as a diversion in the previous mission to skip town

That's it? There's no greater hidden meaning?
Oh well, thanks anyways.

I haven't played GTA3 in a while, only VC, which has DL in it as well.

Yeah, I just think old Donny got a little too entangled in the whole crime business and blew outta town. In VC, we see he's kinda nervous and scared.

Remember the old man you have to rescue. That is Donald's friend/mentor. I believe the opened box symbolizes that he is freed from his past life style.(being the criminal mastermind) and coming of age spiritual acessition.

PS: whatever i said is bs

Don't forget that VC takes place before GTAIII so donald love's nervousness could be chalked up to inexperience

There, now that's the kind of response I was looking for. I was looking for an explanation of the themes and symbolism behind the scene so I could appreciate it as art.

A mysterious box. How...Lynchian.

I think Donald Love is down at the Double R Diner eating cherry pie and drinking damn fine coffee.
