PS2 Mod chip differences?
Now being the proud owner of a play-station 2, i have been reading about making backup disks and I have the part of the equation down, however I understand that to be able to use them properly I am in need of a mod chip. I of course did a google on that and found that there are many varieties of them, hence my question.
What is the difference in the various types of mod-chip beside the fact that some have to be soldered and other are a simple plug in. |
The Solder/plug in is the main difference.
Some play backup DVD's, others play inport games & some play those blue disks (non dvd games I think). I figure it would be better to get one that does everything. Let us know what you go for coz Im looking at an all silver Ps2 right now & want to get it modded for.. erm... backups too! yes, thats it, backups. |
Um i think u can look up some info at www.maxking.com
he has all kinds of emulaters, mod chips etc etc i also think he does some explaning as well. Hope it helps! |
Congrats on the purchase I8!, remember fellas lets keep this nice and legal.
tread lightly :) |
mod chips can be tricky. i toasted a PS2 modding it once. that was uncool. i fixed my dillema in the end via means i will not divulge. the point being that you best be prepared to lose the ps2 if your going into soldering. if your going into the plug kind then your moderatly ok but your still out your warrenty. the best solution thus far? the ps2 slim jim (for lack of a better word) basically you got 1 boot disc and a slim jim. you boot the ps2 with the disc and then used the slimjim to open the drive door to swap the disc. by doing this without pushing the eject button the ps2 never knows that the disc was swaped and therefore does not reset the code it just got. you can get the slimjim and the boot discs in one package from here:
