HL2 or Doom3?
When I first saw the screens for Doom3 I could hardly wait for the game to be released. I tried the pre-alpha and still couldnt wait...
Then I saw the E3(i think) video for HalfLife2, and I could care less about Doom. What are you folk more excited about? ~smeesh |
Half-Life 2!!!!
Well, I've played Doom 3, and while the graphics are awesome, the gameplay seems like it could be very lacking. I haven't seen any gameplay shots of HL2, just the graphics. So I can't really make a decision. Both LOOK good, that's all I know. :)

May god have mercy on our souls when HL2 comes out. Millions of divorces will occur, and suddenly you will no longer see people on the streets.
HL2. Duh.
Doom3, definitely.
HL2 for me. I have more faith in the gameplay and storyline.
Gimme both. And Deus Ex 2 and Max Payne 2, while you're at it!
I've never been exposed to either series alot, but I know I've had alot of fun with the few times I've played Doom.
I'll take Doom 3. |
Why not both? I'm looking forward to both of them.
Well my vote goes for HL2. When I saw the E3 video, I about drowned in a pool of saliva, which is a hard thing to do.
Neither because my computer can't handle it:(
DOOM3, sure HL2 has nice physics and all but it doesn't seem as graphically impressive as DooM3. DooM's 'storyline' I find is far more interesting too, mainly because I have a facination with demons and space.
The E3 video for HL2 was impressive, but watching the DooM3 E3 video I find myself far more impressed, to me HL2 is making you go "Wow! Oooh, ahhh!" where DooM3 is more atmospheric. Having played the leaked Alpha for it I can tell you I was genuinely freaked out. The level where the four legged beast bursts through the wall had me closing my eyes and covering my ears, I shit you not. NO game has ever been able to do that, even Silent Hill 3, though damn scary, could not make me do that, and to think that it was only an Alpha that fucked me up, extraoridinary. However I'll still be buying both, but at this stage am far more eager to get my grubby little hands on DooM3, needless to say I'll be buying new underwear at the same time. |

BOTH!.. Doom 3 got pushed back remember?
D3 for me cuz of the horror factor.
I'm leaning more towards HL2. I think it'll have more new gameplay aspects and such, making it impressive and hard to stop playing. Doom 3 will be cool still be cool, but not on the same level (or way) as HL2.
I'm looking forward to them both.
But more so HL2 because it will be released in 2003 and Doom 3 in 2004. They are both totally different games in all respects, and they cannot be compared. Comparing them turns things into a flame fest. |
Even though I never really played the previous in the series, I'm a little more excited over Half-Life 2 than Doom 3. I'm just worried I won't have a computer to run either of them decently.
HL2. Only because it's coming out sooner and I can't wait to see what awesome mods come from the HL2 engine.

and don´t forget Halo 2 and the next couple of Grand Theft Autos as well. |
for me HL2 edges out doom3, i dont know why, but im more excited about hl, probly because it's supposed to come very soon.
I've never even played Half Life, because when it came out I had a crappy computer. Therefore, I will play HL2 I'm sure, but am not drooling over it. Doom 3, however, I can't wait for.
Well then go out and buy it, It's still an awesome game with a good story.
There is a general rule that if the game has excellent graphics, it wont have anything else. I don’t even know why companies bother making these extreme engines that no one could actually run on their computer.
Has any one seen what Doom 3 looks like in multi-player yet? It looks just like Quake 3. Half Life 2 will be the same. They have been working on these games for years and years yet I am ready for a big disappointment. |
Doom3 isn't focused on multiplayer. Its the single player experience thats being focuses on in that game.
Doom3 multiplayer is also only for 4 players, and is quite slow paced from what I hear, on small tight maps to build up suspense. Really doesn't sound anything like Quake3 to me, which is just a speedy deathmatch game on steroids. As for HL2, well we'll see soon enough. But look at the original, if 2 is even a fraction as good as the original it will still be one of the best FPS games made. |

As for the rest of the thread. HL2 more because of the story involved. |
Halflife2 will be a fun game with alot of replay value, so this would be more bang for your buck. Now doom3 i'm not sure about having much of a replay value. I'm not sure how multiplayer will be implimented if at all. So, I'm equally excited about both titles, and along with MP2 coming out next month, It doesnt look too bright for me doing any work in the next few months!
Halflife2 all the way :)
I have never been a big fan of the doom games. Although the videos I saw of Doom 3 looks very promising, I still have to stick with HL. Always loved the first one and add-ons. Plus it's a truly great multi-player experience.
People seem to be confusing the first Half-Life with all of the multi-player additions that were released for it afterwards. The first Half-Life was about its single-player experience. The mods and expansions (Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, Death Match, etc.) are not the original game. Saying that Half-Life 2 is going to have an excellent multi-player mode is not a good comparision because the first Half-Life never had a multi-player mode.
Doom 3 does have a multi-player mode, even though I'm not very impressed with some of the previews so far. IGN says it's pretty damn slow, even though the graphics are excellent. Once those mods and expansions start coming out for HL2, that's when the shit will hit the fan and players will rejoice. -Lasereth |
Sure the original HL had a multiplayer mode.
My friends and I used to play all the time. It was just your standard 4 player models using the standard HL weapons. Too bad like 90% of the weapons were useless. |
I'm leaning towards HL2 just because of all the mods. And Doom doesn't have counterstrike....
After reading some Marc Laidlaw books, I think HL2 will be my choice. I may jump in and play D3...when it ever gets released, since the horror aspect looks really cool. But the whole mood of HL2 just looks great. Plus, hey, what other game made such great fun out of the crowbar?
Neither, I'll be playing Pong on my gas powered computer.
HL2 mos def, I'm looking forward to that game a lot.
