X-Box RPG's

Besides Knights of the old Republic, are there any good RPGs out for Xbox?

Is that the one where you choose to be good or bad depending on your actions?

Downward- dont be so quick, morrowind is awesome and is an ACTUAL RPG,(also 20 bucks) not some streamlined linear bullshit like Final Fantasy 7-10 -_-.

Fable will own.

And knights is simply amazing.

Besides KOTOR and Morrowind the Xbox is seriously lacking in RPGs. I'm also looking forward to Fable though. I hope it lives up to all the hype and expectation. I just hope that the fact that it has been delayed so much doesn't backfire.

KOTOR and Morrowind are actual RPG's, in reality, PS2 doesnt have many of those, now does it?

In my book, final fantasy, xenosaga, most any "RPG", really isnt. They are going away from what they are supposed to be, and are creating this linear time bullshit idea, that doesnt allow you to roam freely.

Final fantasy X wasnt an RPG it was a god damn adventure game, nothing more.

Last time i checked, RPG meant ROLE PLAYING GAME. where you were a theif, fighter, mage, paladin, and you played out that role, in a free and open world. and you didnt run around playing blitzball in an unavoidable series of events that give you no choice.

/end.

Still, my points are quite valid, imo, anyone beg to differ?

Arx Fatalis is coming out soon for Xbox.. If you liked Ultima Underworld, you'll like Arx! There's also Gladius, and True Fantasy online. There are a few others but I forget off the top of my head.

FFX was very linear, but some people play RPGs for an amazing story, not the ability to do whatever they wanted. You can't really argue that KOTOR is any better than FFX in the linear department, either. Sure, there are side quests to do, but when it all boils down, you have to follow the main plot in the game or you can't advance. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Morrowind was a cool game, but I found it very lacking in the story area. Some RPG's excel in story, some excel in non-linear gameplay, and some excel in other areas. KOTOR, FFX, and Morrowind are all excellent games, and definitely all three RPGs. Each game simply has advantages and disadvantages over the next one.

Balder's Gate Dark Alliance was kind of an RPG. More RPG/Adventure game. I really enjoyed it and the sequel is due out pretty soon if Interplay can stay in business long enough.

I most definately agree with you on the FF X thing. But it also depends what you are used to, many people these days have grown up on console "RPGs" like the FF series. Although I also agree that they are not "pure" RPGs some of the better ones are still very enjoyable. Such as Xenogears for the PS1, although I really haven't enjoyed a console RPG in a very long time.

Once I played the fallout series on PC there was no going back to console RPGs for me.

I think "RPG"'s like the FF series are awesome. Games like Morrowind bore the hell out of me. I bought elder scrolls and every time I try to play it, I can only play for about half an hour, and I have to force myself. I want a story. Sure, games like FFX and all that are linear, but they are just letting you play out a story. You can either read the novelization, watch a movie (usually anime) on it, or you can experience the story in it's highest form-- through an interactive game. There really is no better way to experience these stories. Also, Xenogears is one of these types of games, and well... if you put down Xenogears, pray that you never meet me on the streets, because I will punch you on the nose, and I will put as much of my weight and strength into it as I can muster

rpg = role playing game...broad deffinition it just depends on what type of RPG you like. More story based games are on the PS2, but more expansive games are on the xbox...sorta

the original purpose of role playing games was to play the role of a group of hero's, similar to DnD, this can be adapted to the future, however, the fact of the matter is, is that most every "rpg" today, is far to linear, and doesnt give you much in the way of choices. Its the same each time you play through it, and thats about it...

I think the industry has lost sight of what an RPG truly is, and what it has evolved into.

I have played both Morrowind and KOTOR. Didn't like Morrowind. I have never been really big on RPG's, but KOTOR is an awesome game. Besides those 2 I haven't really played any other RPG's for XBOX.

Yes, you're right with this, but sometimes this isn't a bad thing. Like I said earlier, Morrowind can be damn boring sometimes, simply because it doesn't excel in the story department. RPG's today are accustomed to different gamers. Final Fantasy RPG's are about telling a story and building up your characters, while Morrowind is about being able to do literally whatever you want to (don't even have a plot you have to follow). Personally, I like both types of RPGs. I like a healthy dose of story and character depth, but I also like being able to kill the entire village of Caldera in Morrowind simply because the guard told me to put up my sword.

PS: Nice avatar!

I don't know, my friend is playing through it as Dark the first time and he says it's annoying. Apparently, everyone in your party bugs you when you gain Dark Side points. Hell, I might play through it again as Dark Side, but right now I think it's fun as hell as the Light Side. You get to kick the bad guy's ass and save people. Ha ha! I think I need to go play it.

I dont see the word Linear in "RPG" anywhere, its a broad definition making it so you can enjoy one kind of rpg and not like another.
