America's Army players: Report In!

Who else plays America's Army? I can't be the only one.

You can download it for free if you're interested: http://www.americasarmy.com

It's a FPS developed by the United States Army. It's pretty kick ass. I enjoy it heartily. Also, 1.9 patch just came out and now they have combat medics!

I've seen it before. I'm going to give it a try

omnigod 08-16-2003 08:27 PM

I have only played the training missions since im on dialup. Once i move into the dorms i am going to give it another try.

It's a great game that is very realistic.

However, my experience with America's Army went from good to a nightmare.

When it first came out, it was really fun to play. I used to play for several hours per day back then. I took some time off from it and then I started playing again. I didn't know any of the new maps and I didn't remember some of the older maps. I had players telling me to leave, trying to vote to kick me from the game, etc. Evidently I was ruining their "gaming experience". I decided that they were all jerks and uninstalled the game. And there is a very big and nasty anti-american sentiment from the Europeans that play, which bothered me.

how does this game compare to cs? (to those that have played both).

CyCo PL 08-16-2003 10:41 PM

I definitely prefer CS over AA, but mainly because my comp can't run AA very well, and I've got years of experience playing CS...

Hanabal 08-16-2003 10:41 PM

AA would be good apart from all the official servers being on the other side of the world, its very real and a bit frustrating, but hey
whatever floats your boat.

I prefer enemy territory which is also free,

John Falcon 08-17-2003 01:57 AM

I liked AA until one day the new version would hang when trying to load the server lists.

post to the troubleshooter board didn't help.

Good think the game was free, or I'd be ticked.

I play and it's working well. It is hard not to look like a dumbass, though..

I downloaded/played this awhile game, great game but their servers were slow as hell. Is this still a problem?

Carno 07-30-2004 04:01 PM

I downloaded the game, but it always freezes during grenade training. How do I play online without having to complete training first?

MooseMan3000 07-30-2004 08:45 PM

Reporting in. I don't play often (I have WAY too many games to play to play any of them often), but I do play sometimes. I've completed all the training and whatnot... my handle in game is MooseMan3000, if you ever see me around. 21 honor, because I don't play enough to go higher.

As far as I know, you don't. The idea is that you complete "basic" before you can play with other people.

I only had this problem because of the shitty network at my school. When I play at home, my connection is fine on any of the official servers.

It doesn't. Not really, anyway. You can compare it more to DoD than CS, but even that's stretching it a little bit. But basically, it's more realistic, better graphically, and much harder than CS. In CS, you can rush at the other team with a MAC10 and get a few kills. In AA, you will get machine gunned down before you even see the other team. That is, unless you're playing with noobs. (like me)

Overall, I enjoy the game. Completing the extra training missions to allow you to play the sniper, medic, airborne, and special forces classes is really a nice touch.

Damn, that's what I was afraid of... I don't know why it freezes...

I JUST WANT TO GET PAST THE FREAKIN GRENADE AREA!!!

Bamrak 07-31-2004 06:10 AM

try updating your video drivers, or reverting back to an older build. The grenade course is a local map and not something on the servers.

Bratwurst 04-01-2005 10:54 AM

Anyone still play AA? I am thinking of trying it out until DoD:S comes out.

MooseMan3000 04-01-2005 02:40 PM

I just installed it again after several months not playing. They have added 8 or so new maps since I last played, and most of them are excellent. Just make sure when you play to complete the Special Forces training... it's difficult, but playing a Special Forces class makes it worth it.

Kodega 04-01-2005 09:35 PM

I tried it, the nade spam was horrible. I don't think a single person died from a bullet.

Yes to that. Plus all the bitching and whining from the AA fanboys when you screw up in the game.
