Favorite old-school games?
I know we've had plenty of discussions on some of these areas before, but I was curious as to what were the true standout - and perhaps classic, but forgotten, titles on various platforms.
What I propose is people list up to four of their favorite titles on any or all of the following old-school systems: 1980s Arcade Games NES/SNES N64 PS1 Dreamcast or any other "outdated" device. I'll go first below. |
Arcade:
Track & Field Gyruss Tron Golden Axe Galaga NES/SNES: Super Metroid Super Mario All Stars PS1: Ape Escape Parappa the Rapper Dreamcast: NFL 2K1 Virtua Tennis Soul Calibur |
1980s Arcade Games:
Ms. Pac Man Mario Bros (the original) NES/SNES Megaman 2 Final Fantasy 3 (japanese) Zeldas (all of them) There are so many great games for both NES and SNES that it would be cruel to make me try and think of them all. N64 Mario Kart Zelda: OOT PS1 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Final Fantasy VII Parappa the Rapper Suikoden FF Tactics Metal Gear Solid Dreamcast: NesterDC Soul Calibur Grandia II Shenmue Jet Grind Radio |
Sorry mrquackers, I can't get some of my lists down to 4.
NES BattleToads Bionic Commando Contra MegaMan 2, 4, and 5 (though all of them are real good) Little Nemo Super Dodgeball SNES Super Mario World Super Mario All-Stars Super Mario Kart Super Mario RPG (hmm...Mario seemed to have made the SNES for me) Genesis Sonic And Knuckles Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine Eternal Champions The Simpsons: Virtual Bart Contra: Hard Corpse (I think that was the name of it) Dynamite Headdy Boogerman Earthworm Jim N64 Perfect Dark Conker's Bad Fur Day Mario Kart 64 Super Mario 64 WWF No Mercy GoldenEye PS1 Final Fantasy 7 Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions Dreamcast NFL 2K Chu Chu Rocket Worms Armegeddon (sp?) Guantlet Legends Tony Hawk Pro Skater House Of The Dead 2 |
Contra: Hard Corps was definitely a classic on the Genesis... Probably the best Contra game I ever played. The SNES one was good, but Hard Corps had way more feeling to it, it was just a better game.

I just had to hook up my Dreamcast again today cause I wanted to play it. Some fantastic stuff on that system.
