Some games I'd recommend for GameCube are: Metroid Prime, Soul Calibur 2, Super Smash Bros.: Melee for when you have friends over, & Pikmin. I'm sure there's plenty others but those stood out for me.

There are a ton of exclusive games for the GC.

Eternal Darkness - must play
Viewtiful Joe - this game is very cool
Animal Crossing - getting your girlfriend/wife hooked on the GC=more games for you!

+ the ones Esoteric mentioned.

Metal Gear Solid is supposed to be coming out for the GC, all remade for the more powerful graphic chip in the GC.

Dislikes - can't really think of anything, other than the fact that the library is pretty small compared to the PS/2 & Xbox. I think the quality/crap ration is higher on the GC though.

The gamecube is excellent if you have patience. I've got ps2 and Xbox also. The gamecube is a good system to fall back on. Xbox and ps2 have huge libraries compared to the gamecube, but you'll never see metroid on no damn ps2. The gamecube also has better graphics than the ps2, but I dunno how it compares w/xbox. They have resident evil (it is getting old, but i'll still buy the new one).
I'd recomend the gamecube if you have the extra money.

Alot of people absolutely loathe the controller for 'Cube, it's very similar to the Dreamcast controller which is one reason it doesn't bother me/I like it. But if you haven't used a Dreamcast controller a lot or gotten used to the 'Cube lay out you may take some time.

I also love the cube and Dc controller.. it's a good deal if you arent some uber hardcore gamer who must have all the "hot" games right now.. Generally the gamecube games are utter crap made by unknown compaines based on a liscense.. or pretty darn good.
No online support (except for PSO) could hurt, but most people dont care about that.
I have one and i love it, though sometimes i wish i had a ps2 for certain games. Overall i enjoy the gamecube and it's titles over all the other choices. It's like the developers have to try harder to make the games good because they know if they make utter crap it'll hurt the already fragile console.

Why hasn't any one suggested IKARUGA??? OMG, this game is awesome. Total throwback to old school shooters. I love it.
I just finished Zelda and it was awesome. Soul Caliber II is awesome too. I have Mario Party 4 for my retarded friends.
I can't wait for Mario Kart.....

The only thing I don't like about the 'Cube is that a bunch of the games coming up are only fun with multiple ppl and with GBAs. Now, I have a GBA (fine, 2) but I don't have any friends that share quite the same passion as I do for video games. Therefore, I won't have anyone to play Final Fantasy and the next GBA/GC linked Zelda game If anyone is in the Northern Bay Area of California location give me a buzz and we'll talk

I don't know if I would buy a Gamecube right now. It just doesn't seem like a good investment. Last I heard, Nintendo was actually going to stop making them because their warehouse was too full of units that hadn't been sold yet. If no one is buying the consoles, game makers are going to start pulling out. Granted, there are already a number of good titles for it, but the way things are going now, those games might be the last.

While your PS2 and XBox issues are probably due to playing bad games, I'll admit that the Gamecube is also a very respectable system.

There's an easy way to have fun no matter which console you're playing: play the good games. It's that simple. Go to IGN, don't play it if it got below 8.0. Read Electronic Gaming Monthly, if it gets below an 8.5, don't play it. This works on all systems, and guarantees you'll enjoy every game system you play.

Now, if you really want to buy a Gamecube, the two games that you MUST play and FINISH are Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Those games are worth buying the system for, even if you never play it again (ha ha, that's my case).

I agree with everything said here (I'd like to add "Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" to your list of games, too) except the "PS2 and XBox issues" thing...

For the Xbox, it's a fair system with an incredible on-line service, built-in hard-drive to save your games on, and neat functions like the CD-ripping feature. However, the only two stand-out games on it IN MY OPINION are Halo and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (and that one isn't even exclusive, I believe...maybe the Substance version is, but I know MGS2 was originally PS2).

The PS2, although I've never really played any bad games on it, has never really had any great games for it either...Grand Theft Auto is fun for a rental, but not all that solid. Gran Turismo was never my kind of game. The first SSX was pretty fun, though the second one totally lost my interest. Devil May Cry is fun to watch, though I don't enjoy playing it. I'm not a fighting game fan, though I find some entertainment in Tekken Tag, although not enough to warrent a purchase. I've repeatedly heard that Ico is and under-rated sleeper-hit, but I found it to be nothing short of bland. The Final Fantasy series is the only big series left that I can think of, and I'll say this: I loved FF7 (which was PS1, mind you, but I'll count it was PS2 since that's what I now have to play it on), but I haven't really gotten the chance to play any others enough to judge them. I played about an hour's worth of the FF that had the Blitzball-star, but I don't remember its name. Its on-line service is limited, only two controller-slots are availible, and the fact that my bro's PS2 is barely working lately are another three reasons why I feel it's the bottom of the barrel.

The GameCube, although lacking in online playing and DVD capabilities, has the most solid games in my opinion. "Metroid Prime" and "Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" are works of art. Animal Crossing will keep you interested for a long long time (I've recently lost interest in it, but I've played it for about a year now, so you can understand that), and is very original. Super Mario Sunshine is like an improved-yet-less-revolutionary-and-more-difficult Mario 64. NFL 2K3 is an outstanding football game for any fan of the sport to play. Super Smash Brothers: Melee is absolutely perfect for multi-player. Eternal Darkness is incredible, and damn well better get a sequal. WrestleMainia 18 is frickin' fun, and alot better than I expected since it doesn't use WWF No Mercy's engine for the Nintendo 64. Sonic: Mega Collection brings back so many memories, and lets me relive them and make more memories.

I just feel that the GameCube's game quality out-wieghs the other sytems very easily.

Those games you mentioned above are nearly on-par with Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness, especially Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. If you play the GTA games for what they're worth (in other words, not a rental...they are made for their plots and missions, not just driving around the city. Most people think that driving around and crashing is the point of the game, but it's not), then they are just as good as Prime. Vice City delivers one of the most incredible stories in any videogame I've played. Devil May Cry had a shit story, shit voice acting, but the funnest arcade action I've ever played. There's nothing like being able to personally make your character a badass.

SSX Tricky being a bad game? This game improved upon and slaughtered the first game in every aspect. This is another example of Electronic Arts knowing exactly how to make a game engine. The only company (person) that I've seen been able to do this is Shigeru Miyamoto with Nintendo. He seems to perfectly understand game engines. It's almost like he can simply transform his gameplay thoughts into pure code. SSX Tricky is an incredible game, especially in the trick-system aspect. I'm not sure there's any type of extreme sport game out there that even compares to this game, besides some of the Tony Hawk games. Gran Turismo does appeal to certain fans, but that doesn't mean the game isn't excellent. A majority of PS2 owners bought Gran Turismo 3, and for a damn good reason: it's the best racing simulation out there. Nothing compares. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is a damn good game, but it's majorly arcade.

The Gamecube is easily the highest-quality of the three major consoles. And I mean technical quality, not the quality of its games. You can beat the hell out of a Gamecube and it'll still work. PS2s and XBoxs aren't so lucky. I've actually returned my PS2 AND XBox, but not my Gamecube.

All of the games that you mentioned on Gamecube are awesome and deserve a good amount of respect, but all of them can be rivaled by games on XBox and PS2.

My brother'll agree with you on Tricky and Gran Turismo, whereas I disagree with you both. I enjoyed the original alot (as did my bro), to the point where I had constantly played it. When Tricky came out, I no longer could enjoy it because my SSX craving had just died before it came, and Tricky did nothing to get me hooked again (while my brother is STILL fanatical over it). I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I enjoyed Dark Summit and Amped (although I believe both are exclusively for the XBox) alot more than Tricky...though I think the Tony Hawk series is unrivaled in the extreme sport category, anyways. As for Gran Turismo, I prefer my Mario Kart's and F-Zero's more than the simulation-style racing games. They simply don't appeal to me. I aven't played Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 yet, so I can't judge it, but I will try to give it a rental sometime so I can base an opinion on it.

Don't take me as saying "I despise every PlayStation game EVER!!!", but I do not have the same entertainment with the PS2 that other people seem to have.

Perfectly understandable. I commend you on not being a flamer! Hot Pursuit 2 is more arcade-ish, but it still has a bit of simulation in it. You may like it; may not. I love Mario Kart and F-Zero, so I feel ya on that one. I actually enjoyed Gran Turismo 2 more than 3 because you got to build a car from the ground up instead of automatically winning a good car after a few races.

I admit I got tired of the first SSX, but I'm still not over Tricky. I think it's just my type of game. The control scheme is more like an extenstion of my mind instead of buttons. I think EA nailed the Uber-trick system perfectly. SSX 3 looks pretty badass as well; I hope it's awesome.

I'd have to agree that Eternal Darkness and Metroid are both great games.

If you're a Zelda addict like me, Windwaker is decent. And if you missed the N64 version of Zelda, you might be able to find a Gamecube disc of it somewhere - I don't think they sell them, but some places gave them away with preorders of Windwaker. I know quite a few people who have it.

Just might add in a reply to an earlier post:

Nintendo stopping production of consoles has nothing to do with falling sales. There's not much point making more of them if oyu have a surplus, though, is there? =D
The GC recently topped the PS2 in Japan by about 300 units (according to IGN)
Almost as many as the X-Box sold....about 500. Less than the PS1 =)

Man, Japanese gamers aren't into consoles as much as the US or even Europe. The GameBoy is easily the most popular platform in Japan. Nintendo has a ridiculously strong reputation with Japanese gamers, hence the better Gamecube sales.
