PlayStation Portable (PSP) specs revealed
Quote:
they're also planning to use the Universal Media Disc, a mini disc that holds 1.8gb. If this is true, holy crap! I want a portable PS2! |
I want one now!! Thats sweeeeet. But with that kinda power is it going to be a brick? How about power consumption? Anyonw remember the Lynx? 4 hours & you were done.
Even still I cant wait to get my hands on one (ETA June2009???) |
i hope its not like the size of a game gear. But i think Sony will make it a manageable size, i mean hell they have mp3 players with 60 gig harddrives that are tiny.
well we will just have to wait till next e3 to see it...cant wait. |
its size and battery consumption will be resonable to compete with the GBASP. Otherwise they shouldn't bother. Whenever anyone else has come to challenge Nintendo portable systems with more powerful products, the competitor has lost. Damn shame GG, NGPC. Hope Sony kicks some a55
|
Yeah they better improve over game gear, with the 6 AAAs you would get around an hour if that of gameplay.
Also this thing I am guessing is not going to be backwards compatiable with anything, that surely sucks with their enermous library. Yes ports are inevitable but those are so boring. |
awesome!!
....but how long the batteries will last?? |
ports are great. I love having game ports, they usually add a little something to the game to make it even more enjoyable(ex. Zelda for the GBA with the multiplayer 4 swords thing).
I still have my NGPC and i love that thing. Awesome fighting games. |
Gimme gimme gimme!!!
I want one!!! But battery cost is a serious concern.... |
I am thinking they will make sure that battery life is good, at least i hope.
|
Just use rechargable batteries...
|
It's being made by the same Sony Style™ team that made the Clie, so it should be small and very function-over-flare designed.
If it's more than 200 dollars to start with that could be a big issue for a lot of people though. |
I have a playstation portable, it's my laptop combined with some specific emulation software. :suave:
|
Well this is legal thats not.
|
vaporwear so far..
I will believe it when i see it in stores. Some things they need to look out for are good ports, cost, battery power, screen viewability, and synergy with the current console on the market. Without addressing those things.. This product will surely be a dud. |
I'm hoping the thing bombs.
It doesn't sound like they're going to get very good battery life out of the specs they're throwing around. I'd be surprised if they do. All I know is that my GBA can go 15-20 hours on a set of rechageables. |
Interesting...
but like Ganguro said, it's just vaporware until it comes out. Some of the things I'm worried about include: battery life, size, and most importantly games. I mean, with of of this high powered specs being thrown around, I would imagine programing for this thing will a lot more difficult than the GBASP. So you ask. Well that means they may charge more for each individual game and it games could take longer to make. Also, who really invests big budget in their handheld games anyways? Look at Nintendo, a vast majority of their GBA games have been ports for a reason: they are cheap and fairly easy to do. Sony's PSP has a chance, but it's just too soon. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. |
I'm curious about what the price point on these will be. My guess, given the impressive hardware specs, is either $199 or $249. $199 is more likely as it's easier for consumers to stomach - but they'll likely lose money on each sale if they come in at that price.
Still, I want one! :) |
It could be amazing if it can really do all the things people are saying it might be able to do. Graphics around PS2 quality in a handheld sounds crazy but you never know.
|
I'd guess the graphics will be more along the lines of PS1.5 - an improvement over the PS1, but shy of the PS2's levels.
|
The Game Gear is still better than any Game Boy, pity it's dead now though :(
|
Damn, I can't wait...time to start saving!
|
*pant* *pant* *pant*
Want! |
I don't know why you are all so worried about battery consumption, its almost a garuntee it will have a rechargeable lithium ion battery (just like the GBASP) and wall/car adapters.
I am much more interested in what kind of games they are going to be launching with it and what the controls will look like. One other rumor is that it will double as a wireless (thru cell phone technology) web surfing device. That would be pretty awesome. |
I'm doubting the specs on it. As fro PS2, 38M polygons per second my ass. I can severely lag GTA3 or VC with three or four rockets. I doubt that they would be able to come near that without sucking down the power. Who wants a portable gaming system that drops the battery meter a visible amount whenever you hit a cutscene?
|
um they wont do that, they arent stupid
|
maybe the only thing that could compeate with nintendo.
|
Its going to come with a rechargable batt. They announced that at E3 just like the gb sp.
|
I still play my Lynx... (With the AC adaptor) Night long multiplayer Rampage still rocks.
Hope the rechargeable battery is removeable. Always need a spare... |
i still use my game.com... ;-) jurrasic park is cool.*goes back to staring and drooling at psp*
|
All i know is, if the games compare to those on the ps2, I'm getting one. I spend a lot of time on my gba but wish there were better games. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops
|
I will buy one when it plays tv, mp3, and acts as a cell phone

Now that is some sexy ass shit.
|
I can't figure out how they are going to get a PS2 style game on this thing. Is it going to have a CD/DVD with shock protection or are the games going to be put on super expensive memory sticks. Either way, the units going to be really expensive or the games will need to be. Storage and storage retrieval have gotten a lot cheaper but not cheap enough to give PS2 caliber games at Super Nintendo (GBA) prices.

Those pictures are nothing like what I saw today.
I over heard one of the Sony reps say it's gonna have about 10hrs of batter life. Kinda streching it I'd say. |
I'm so hyped about this damn thing. I only thing I think will make people bitch aside from the battery issue will be the buttons being flat to the surface of the thing. It's cool as hell, yeah, but that will affect your gaming, and I mean the PSP's target demographic is definitely gamers.
Personally, I don't care bout the buttons, and I'm still super pumped up for this. But it probably won't be out for a very very long time. Shame. |
