Anybody else here think halo is stupid?
 

I don't know why everyone likes this game? I'm already not too keen on console shooters. Especially when someone got me hooked on CS. Why do some people think that joysitck aiming is better than good old Mouse and Keyboard?

No,aiming with a joystyick isnt easier.I would prefer a mouse,but then my X-Box doesent have a mouse.


Halo was a very good co-op game imo~

comparing controllers to keyboard/mouse is like comparing apples to oranges, the games on both PC and consoles are designed for these particular inputs. If you don't like one or the other then don't play it that way.

A game is not stupid just because you don't like the controls.

On another note, Halo comes out for PC in 2 months, then you can use keyboard/mouse all you want, and it won't be stupid!

Just because people play Halo doesn't mean they all think that a controller is better than a keyboard and mouse for first-person shooters. On top of that, even while u sing a controller Halo remains one of the best games of all time. It is coming out soon on PC, and Halo 2 is due this Winter hopefully.

Halo was a mediocre fps even for a console fps. I dunno i just thought it was way overrated and certainly isnt the best game ever like so many people say it is.

Eh, the controller isnt as good as the mouse/keyboard, but this is the best FPS i've ever played, best plot, graphics and sound by far, it could be a movie in and of itself. Also, i've never played another game for more hours than halo, having 8 people playing together is simply amazing, halo 2 will only be better. Nothing even comes close to halo. Nothing.

I hate fps on controllers. But you do get a lot of options. Mouse and kb give a more fluid approach

The control for halo on the xbox is amazing, concidering that it is a console game. All of the people here bashing it: have you ever really taken some time to play it on legendary with a friend? This isn't SOF2 or CS, its not that kind of game, but does this mean it still cant be fun? just because a game is a frist person game, doesn't mean it can be grouped with every FPS out there..

You have to give it a chance. Like Half-Life, Halo isn't the old let's shoot everything in site fps. And although I think Half-Life's rythm and pacing and, more importantly, story are superior to Halo, Halo's fighting environments are what set it apart. Besides the all weapons and vehicles (land and airborne) you get to use throughout the game, Halo puts you in complex situations that require tactical solutions. You can't just go out blasting, you have to think about the area. Other games might do this, but not nearly as well.

In my opinion its a groundbreaking game.

About the controls, Ive just grown up on console games and mouse/keyboard just arent as good for me. If I played more computer games I would get used to it, or if you played more console games youd get more used to that.
And having 4 x-boxes and 16 players in the same room is my best gaming expirience ever. It was a great time.

Um if you want best graphics/sound for an FPS right now, get Unreal 2, much better than halo. If you want best story, get Half-Life. Yes i played through the whole game with my roommate and i could honestly say i hated just about every minute of it. I think they did one thing good though. They were able to make the controls good for it being on a console, that impressed me. But the game itself did exactly the opposite of impress, it disappointed.

I thought halo was dull and repetitive . I dont see what all the fuss is about for this game.

I didn't like it either, it gets boring to me.

The plot of this movie was good enough for a scifi movie, imo, and on legendary, there is so much strat that goes into every battle, its so much fun though. Its only repetative if you suck, and you keep dying. The score is also really good, and sets it apart. :)

halo was a bad example of a game being rushed throught the final stages of the development process but an unnamed corperation desperate for a flagship game for a console that had little prospects originally. now hopefully the game is still slated for PC which it of course was originally. if this unnamed corperation hadn't boughten up bungi it would have made it to the PC awhile ago and most likely done right ie. non repetitive levels and proper layouts.

i've played halo for countless hours with my friends and i'm not really that fond of it. don't get me wrong, its a good game. i just don't understand the hype. only thing i liked was the co-op.

I'm not trying to compare keyboard/mouse to controller cause I know they're 2 different things. What I'm saying is that I'm not seeing why it got so much hype. Personally I'm not too keen on the whole physics or anything. It just didn't sell me as a great game. It just doesnt seem like an over-the-top game to me. Just another game. On PC, I probably only play it if my friends do. But I aint gonna go huntin' for it.

It's an absolutely awesome FPS. Anyone who says different is wrong. ;)

No, I don't think it's stupid. At all.

I'm a Niven fan, so that's an automatic bias simply for the environment of the game. I've been awaiting this game since it was first announced, then hijacked by MS for the Xbox (a sad, sad day indeed).

Sadly, many qualities that would have made Halo one of the best games ever for its time have been usurped by others (e.g., pilotable/drivable vehicles, several passengers doing different things concurrently) such as BF 1942.

I'll still get it, though. For sure. I like the sci-fi aspect of what is likely a BF 1942 type game, although I hear the maps won't be as vast (sadly...I like the idea of boundary-less maps). But it sure will be neat to see the halo curving up into the sky and realizing, however unrealistic it may seem, that you could go to that far-off place you see if you really wanted.


Oh, and I play FPS with a joystick (pantherxl). I have used a joystick since my Quake1 days and I always have. I realize this is rare indeed but I own with it. Not to mention the superior ergonomics. I grew up with the Atari2600 and then the 5200...they had joysticks so when PC gaming started I thought it was a natural transition to use a joystick with a PC. Many others obviously do not think so but realize that it most certainly works and works well with practice. Personally, I think keyboards/mice are for word processing and navigation, not gaming.

I don't see how anyone can play with a joystick. You just get so much more precise aiming w/keyboard and mouse and you have so many more keys with a keyboard. Like counter-strike. Whenever I hear Xbox/CS coming soon, I shudder. Sure: No hackers...but that's not gonna help me in the long run. I don't like joystick/controller fps games.

Atomsk, I'm with you. I would have loved to see this game if it were finished. Might have been really good. No arguments about it being a great multiplayer party game, but hey, so is Tetrinet. What I dislike most about Halo, other than the control, is the textures. There seems to be only one big patch of grass, and I really wish X-Box had taken a different approch to its textures. Has the same sort of visual blah that the N64 had. Smooth models and shiney surfaces are nice, but every game on X-Box has the same look to it. But thats not what this is about... I'm sure microsoft and Bungie have heard all the complaints, and I hope thats why Halo 2 is taking so long to come out. I hope my XBox friends can get some good games on that system so they can stop asking to swap for my PS2.

Maybe an arcade stlye board with analouge keypad with an optical explorer mouse, ship it as a Halo 2 bonus pack. microsoft employees, if you're reading this, do this, and I'll rebuy my XBox

If you're looking to play a game with a mouse and keyboard attachment, why bother buying a console?

I mean, you're already pushing it with an x-box anyway. If you're looking for "precision" aiming and such why not just go the whole nine yards and put a computer in the front room?

If I want precision aiming how about I just go and not buy halo cause I dont like it. How about that?

I traded in halo a couple months ago. It was fun while it lasted but the lack of good online play rotted it.

They have similarities beyond that purpose.

They have significant differences and one works better in some situations while the other works better in other situations.

The qualities of each can be overshadowed on an individual basis by personal taste.

The quality of a game can be severely degraded by controller decisions made by the developers. Once you get used to the precision of keyboad and mouse, using a gamepad in a fps is painful. Just like once you get used to using a joystick for flight games, using a mouse is painful.

I wouldn't say FPS on consoles are stupid (GoldenEye will probably forever be on of my favorite games). But the lack of control is irritating.

we need more games like that,

yeah controller sucks when youre trying to rail people in the eye
in half a second,
but its good for driving all the vehicles,

and sometimes its fun to have to unload a few clips into
something to kill it

I learned Halo to play a charity tournament.

I am a PC gamer, Halo taught me that lesson. I want/need my keyboard and mouse.

A two joystick controller feels wrong to me, I can't get it, and the multiplayer (never played sp) seemed like a bigger version of Goldeneye (not a bad thing, but nothing truly revolutionary, just evolutionary)

Well, personally, Halo is probably my favorite game of all time. I love Halo, but that may just be because I'm pretty good at it. You do not fuck with me when I have the pistol.

I happen to like iexplore.exe. (That's "Internet Explorer" for all you folks that aren't in the "biz.") :o

I play it all the time. In fact, I put in all those smiley face signs with my mouse using it's advanced point and click upgrade. :p

I have not played it but the way its described to me by people I know who have played it is 'the best fps to ever be on a console platform'. So its probably a good game. But coming from a windows gaming background I expect to be impressed that they got the controls to work with a gamepad more than be impressed with the game.

As a side note didn't one of the developers at E3 say something like 'now we get to do it the way we wanted for the pc' ?
