What is it? Odin sphere is a side scrolling, 2D action RPG developed by Vanillaware, published by Atlus. It is the spiritual sequel to the Japanese only Saturn game, Princess Crown. English Trailer Gameplay Footage Features: -Luscious 2D Sprites and Animation -Multiple difficulty modes & 5 different character scenarios add replay value. -Action Gameplay coupled with RPG elements like leveling and being story-driven. -Dual Voice Options: All dialogue is fully voiced in both English & Japanese Apparently, you level by capturing enemy souls, which may or may not be used to grow fruit which you eat. http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2007/20070425.jpg This is the first game I've preordered in several years. I'm a big fan of both RPGs and 2D sprite based games. And like many new PS2 games these days, its retail price is 39.99. |
It's getting really good reviews. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it game of the month with insane scores. I'm highly debating getting it.

I've heard extremely good things about this game.

I have it on order, and should be here sometime in the next week or two (amazon free shipping, so no rush!)

my cousin has a copy and he is really enjoying it.
even though i have heard little of this game aside from PA, i believe i will get it. i guess it helps that my gf wants to play it too. |
I bought this game. Man it is seriously weird. It reminds me of Tales of Destiny. I'm not sure I like the sluggish controls right now....maybe they get better once more abilities open up (I'm only 2 hours into it). I really like the art design and style of the game. I wish there was more plot and character development but again I'm really not far enough into it to make a decision on it.

Pretty great game so far. The gameplay is a lot of fun, a bit sluggish at times and, even worse, there is occasionally some lag. That can be frustrating, but it doesn't happen often. The difficulty is perfect. There have been a few bosses where I had only 1-4 HP left and just managed to deal the killing blow before they whipped around and killed me.
It's absolutely gorgeous, of course. Bosses look huge (Godzilla v. Housefly with a spear), and there aren't any ordinary characters because even the generic ones have charm. Backgrounds during the level are phenomenal. You've got white-hot magma exploding over rocks in one level and smoking battlefields in another. The voice acting is okay, could be better. A lot of the merchants are pretty bad, but a few of them are golden. Main characters are alright, a few highlights and a few low points-- nothing distractingly bad. I think the story, so far, is better than the average JRPG. Not much, though, at least not at first. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's getting better as it goes. I'm thinking that it will be something really great by the end, maybe a few fluctuations as we go. The second part was a real treat, easily on par with some of the better RPG stories I've seen. Alchemy/gardening/food, etc. is fun but not some extraordinarily great part of the game. It adds a relatively interesting element and is easy enough that it doesn't get in the way. Frankly it's been a while since I got some new 2D gameplay to burn through, on a non-handheld console, and it was a blast to get back into it. This is particularly good 2D gameplay with a few flaws. It's great fun even with 'em, though. Glad I bought it and I'd recommend it. |
Just beat it. Got the bad ending . Gotta replay the last chapter to get the good ending. Doesn't take long though.
GOTY  |
I'm seriously starting to get addicted to this game. It starts out really weird and takes a while to get used to the style of the game but now I'm hooked. The music in this game is amazing if I didn't say it already.

My girlfriend brought it over and i watched her play it for a bit.
It looks like a lot of fun, but i am hesitant to pick up a copy now beacuse it looks like it will take forever to finish this game. |
