How do you spell the alphabet?
Alright, so I'll admit this has always intriged me, even since I was but a wee lad. However, I think I vaguely remember learning how to spell the name of letters in gradeschool. Does anyone have any links to the actual spellings?
For instance, "B" would be spelled "Bee" or whatever... Satisfy my curiosity! |
Can't wait til we get to the ZEEE vs ZED letter :)

one letter at a time?

I bet there's a teacher in the room who could provide good examples. (Helloooo, Gilda?)
And zed? No way, it's izzard. :) When I was a lad one of our tasks in 2nd or 3rd grade was adding words that represented the alternate sounds for each letter. Unfortunately friends & I were more interested in drawing tanks, planes & big explosions than participating. However, I do recall B=Burp was quite popular. |
Or, as They Might Be Giants asked on their second children's album, "Who put the alphabet in alphabetical order?"

Thanks Sticky! A couple of years ago the National Spelling Bee was won when a contestant flubbed "H". The look of stunned suprise on her face when given her 'word' was priceless.
FYI: These are all acceptable for play in Scrabble. I always thought "Elemenopy" would be a good name for a band. OK a pretentious band, but still... |

Instead of typing up one-handed responses to ridiculous questions, Gilda - concentrate on recovering from your accident... Sticky has helped us out already :D |
So wait... outside of the US, Z is pronounced Zed?

I like to spell it with Explosive Runes or, if I'm feeling holy, Glyphs of Warding.
