The Many Faces of . . . .

Having fun with some animation software. Some members have their head shots posted in the forum: in exhibition, here, and other places. Those that have a clear frontal shot of their face up Ive probably already animated a characture of you. Some were up in the TFP 3, but I thought its best I ask permission this time around.

If you have your pic up somewhere and you want a custom avatar animation done just say yeah, if you dont have a pic up and you want one PM me.

Some had white backgrounds which I had to take out because of sheer size, so they will have an outline like mine.

I'll start off with one of myself.

(Some of the animations have some decent size to them, Im using MSN's server-thanks phredgreen. I've had problems in the past if someone could let me know you see the animation, I'll know its not my cache and everythings cool and I'll start posting others- I dont want to fill a thread with rexes)

My skill is not there yet. Stuff like that lies in the hands of MAYA masters or 3d Studio Max. These animations can be done in about 20 minutes thanks to technology, but if I get a chance in a couple of days I can bring some life to your avatar in Flash. You'll need a flash player installed to see it.

rogue49 I did yours a while back, I just have to find it.

sadistikdreams 07-13-2003 07:28 PM

i do have flash. thanks anywho.

Once a great hockey player; immortalizing the number "49" in the NHL, rogue49 was asked to leave to the NHL because he had frequent habit of shooting the puck into the groin of the refs and laughing so hard he would ususally be unable to finish the game.

depending on the complexity of movement and how straight the head shot is about 20 to 30 minutes per. Ones where the head is turned to the side are more complicated.

That's awesome, Sun Tsu! Thanks a lot! You captured my relationship with tools to perfection.

Do I need that Me3D program to reduce those to avatar size? Resizing through what I have just gave me a static gif, no animation. I'm running WinXP Home.

Sun Tzu 01-21-2004 09:54 AM

Avatars can be any size; do you mean the size of TFP avatar max?
Do you have photoshop?

grumpyolddude 01-21-2004 02:58 PM

I should have been more specific. I meant TFP avatar max. No, I don't have Photoshop. I have MS Picture-It, some HP crap that came with my all-in-one, and Kodak PictureCD. As you can see, I haven't taken digital imaging very seriously up to now, and I'm not really inclined to spend any cash on it right now. Is there a freeware/shareware that you are familiar with that could help me play with these? Maybe I'll like it enough to get a serious program for it.

(the soul-patch look ain't too bad, but I like my goatee too much!)

Sun Tzu 01-21-2004 10:16 PM

The trick with the TFP avatars is A)100 x 100 which isnt that much of an issue aside from loosing a little clarity (with any avatar) and B) the challege: take a gif animated creation and get it narrowed down to just under 20k. Ive found that anything 19.70 and over will kick it back at you.

Ulead gif maker is good. I still like image ready for quick gif animation manipulation the best. It comes with photoshop, and when you right click an animation you see somewhere on the net you can open it frame by frame animation in image ready. The first order is to reduce it down to 100x100 just clicking on image then image size. That will knock down the size of the file. If they are video gifs or colorful you can start knocking down the amount of color from 256-128-64 so on anything past 8 will generally be black and white though. if you get to 8 and its still too big then you have to start knocking frames out. To make the animation even I'll go through the entire frame sequence and knock out all the odds or evens. That begins minimizing by 50% each time. THen you put the frame rate at the desired timing and shaaaabooom.

This one orginally started at 320x260 was colored at 256 and had a file size of 175k. Now its 100x100, 8 colors, and should be at an even 19 using the above method.

Sun Tzu 01-21-2004 11:07 PM

Flyman I've seen you all over the place, but now for some reason all I can find is side shots of you, if you have one can you put a link to an image where its a clear frontal shot.

Bones the only reason I put up your "alter self" is because I didnt think you had a pic up (well also because you didnt say yes either; can you put a link to where your shot is, if you ave a couple direct to the one where is most frontal, no profiles will work.
