Sarah Harmer
It's probable that I've written on TFP about Sarah Harmer before, but it's been a while and she's been in my head lately, so I wanted to open a discussion about her and share experiences with other fans...
First of all, I'm very excited because I'll be going to see SH in concert at the Jubilee Theatre in Summerside, PEI on Monday September 24th... I know that's a piece away but I'm really excited about it. It'll be my first concert since I moved out here, and I can't wait. I've been a fan of SH since I first bought "You Were Here" about three years ago. She's put out two other albums since then "All Of Our Names" and "I'm A Mountain" and they're all fantastic. Harmer is a great Canadian talent and I find that she is seriously underexposed. I don't get why she hasn't garnered a larger following. She's a brilliant song writer (won a Juno for it) and she has a beautiful voice, at least on her recordings. So if for no other reason, I wanted to start this thread to get the word out there that Sarah Harmer is an exceptional talent and worth seeing if she comes to your town. She does pretty small venues and her music is beautiful. So SH fans, lend me your thoughts, opinions, or questions... you can also check out HTML Code:

I liked the song Basement Apartment but I really have not heard any other Sarah Harmer.

A friend of ours introduced us to her music when "You Were Here" came out, and we were hooked immediatly. All of her albums are solid, with each and every track being highly listenable. I like her smokey voice and while I usually don't pay much attention to lyrics, her's tell some wonderful stories. I'd say my favourite song is Lodestar, which is unabashadly romantic, yet firmly grounded. I like that duality, which runs through a lot of her work.
I've seen her once in concert, at the Danforth Music Hall, which was amazing. She had a cellist in her backup band, who's sound blended perfectly with her voice. It was one of the best concerts I've been to. Aww shucks. Listen to me gush. |
I saw Sarah Harmer in concert here at the Stanley Theatre. It was a fantastic show! I think through the course of the evening there were 11 instruments used and there were only four people on stage - pretty amazing! I am a HUGE fan of Sarah Harmer! :D

A friend introduced me to a band called the Saddle Tramps and I was impressed with the singer... Later I noted that she was in a band called Weeping Tile. A great band that recieved some minor radio play.
Then, Sarah Harmer when solo. I love Sarah Harmer. I used to have all of the Weeping Tile albums and her solo work... Sadly they were stolen when my car was broken into... I now only have a few things here or there... I need to download her new album. |
Yes! If you see a chance to see Sarah:love:Harmer perform, take it! I rarely see live music, often for financial reasons, but I managed to see her perform at a benefit concert a few years back, after I was already hooked on You Were Here. At the time, I didn't have a favourite song, I loved the whole album. But when I saw her play "Uniform Grey," my gods, her voice and guitar playing were like ambrosia.
If you haven't listened to "Uniform Grey" yet, you must do so as soon as possible. Other essential tracks include "Coffee Stain" and "The Hideout." Essential, I say. |

Sorry to hear about the car. :( |
Her show last night at the Jubilee theatre was so amazing. She is such a great performer and she seems really genuine, not at all pretentious, just a really great, neat individual. And the woman can sing. That's always something I notice when I go see performers live; how different they sound in person and on their albums... well with Sarah, it was really hard to tell the difference. Her voice is so clean and clear and beautiful. This show was a real treat, and I am so glad I went. Go see her if she's in your town.
