What do you put on your hot dogs?

Ever since eating at Atomic Dog, I have been obsessed with putting celery salt on my dogs. It is such a strange taste, but I love it. I also put ketchup on them, which is apparently a bad thing if you want a Chicago Dog.

So what adorns your weiners?

lordjeebus 10-11-2003 11:31 AM

Anything I can find.

Must have: ketchup, mustard, onions, relish (or a pickle spear), lots of kraut.

Optional: lettuce, tomato, salsa, horseradish, cheese, chili (obviates the need for the must haves other than onion).

hansthemolemann 10-11-2003 03:31 PM

mayo, relish and bbq sauce if I have any around

mtsgsd 10-11-2003 05:56 PM

Even though I grew up in the Chicago area, I prefer New York style. Mustard and Sourkraut. Well, maybe some hot peppers too.

bundy 10-12-2003 04:51 AM

i´d like to preface my response here by saying that Hot Dogs are not common in Australia.
in fact i´ve only ever had them late at night, after drinking heavily, from little street vendors in the city.
but, i´d also like to add, they are pretty good drunk food. not as filling as a donor kebab - but then again, not as nasty the next morning.

well, to answer the question, i quite like them with a light american mustard, and some tomato sauce (its like ketchup). i like onions as well.

man, just thinking about this is making me really hungry. not good.

Chingal0 10-12-2003 06:23 AM

Mustard and saurkraut here too

G5_Todd 10-12-2003 06:28 AM

saurkraut, mustard, chilli, cheese, and rellish

crfpilot 10-12-2003 02:39 PM

Mustard and jalapenos, or cheese and jalapenos.

Plaid13 10-13-2003 12:46 AM

celery salt is always good =) mustard maybe onions or something nice and simple like chili =)

Redlemon 10-13-2003 06:18 AM

Always mustard. If they are around, green relish and chopped onions. Or BBQ sauce.

Ripsaw 10-13-2003 08:36 AM

Mustard and kraut.

absorbentishe 10-13-2003 08:51 AM

Depends on my mood, ususally mustard, ketchup, relish, chili sauce, hot sauce. Kraut and hot peppers are every once in a while.

wraithhibn 10-13-2003 09:10 AM

Ketchup only or a Cincinnati style cheese coney(Cincy style chili and lots of cheese).

bparker805 10-13-2003 09:56 AM

All beef jumbo dog, mustard, diced onions, diced tomatoes, chili, slice if pickle, sesame seed bun, and topped with cellery salt (helps bring out the flavor of the tomato). I have just recently heard of bacon wrapped dogs but havent tried them yet... Yet. I personally avoid putting mayo and ketchup on hot dogs. I'm not saying i dont like it but if you're ever in chicago and get yourself a Fat Johnny...

yoshi 10-13-2003 04:53 PM

Mustard and Castlebury's Chili. I can't find this chili where I currently live, my parents have to send it to me from SC--it's the best!

santafe5000 10-13-2003 04:57 PM

Mustard, onion and Chili. That makes it for me.

Rudel73 10-13-2003 06:21 PM

i just like the good ol ketchup and mustard, with some relish maybe

saltfish 10-13-2003 08:43 PM

#1 Rule, start with a Kosher Beef Frank, put on spicy mustard, DILL relish, sauerkraut and cucumber...

I would rather starve than have catsup on a hotdog. <sending chills up my spine> (Oh, and the same goes with SWEET relish, ICK!)

;)

cheezhead 10-14-2003 05:51 PM

Try some potato sticks on em.

blade02 10-14-2003 05:59 PM

For me it depends on the type of hotdog.....if its the normal oscar mayer type hot dog then I like ketchup and mayonaise with cheese or chilli and cheese.
If its more like a brautwurst type hot dog, then I like brown mustard and onions.

Forever 10-14-2003 06:03 PM

Heinz 57 sauce, if I'm at home. A toasted potato bun, too.

drawerfixer 10-14-2003 06:05 PM

Mainly ketchup, but chili and cheese if I can find it.

Eowyn_Vala 10-14-2003 06:16 PM

always ketchup and mustard
sometimes kraut
and sometimes chili and cheese

Jolt 10-14-2003 07:32 PM

I'm a purist. I prefer mine plain. Occasionally I may add some onion or relish.

I like a pickle with hot dogs.

Jadey 10-14-2003 10:24 PM

I like mine plain sometimes. Sometimes with ketchup. Sometimes with cheese. Sometimes with bacon and cheddar. Sometimes with all of the above.

anthro101 10-15-2003 07:17 AM

I like them wrapped in bacon a little mayo on the bun, little ketchup, mustard, grilled onion, hot sauce and or jalapeņo peppers

Conclamo Ludus 10-15-2003 07:26 AM

Call me a freak, but I don't put anything on them. I like my coffee black, my liquor straight, and my hot dogs plain.

dy156 10-15-2003 08:54 AM

mustard, relish, onions and cheese, or just chili and cheese. Never mix mustard and chili or relish and chili.

you are correct. ketchup is unacceptable.

Dibbler 10-15-2003 07:17 PM

I usually eat them plain as long as it's a good quality hotdog. If I go to a family get-together and grandma bought the super cheap brand I'll load them up with anything I can find to hide the taste.

thumper69 10-15-2003 07:36 PM

alot of MUSTARD. Booooom!!!!

almostaugust 10-15-2003 09:14 PM

Ive never heard of celery salt?

davik 10-16-2003 10:34 PM

I gotta go for cincinnati style chili (skyline), cheese, hot sauce, and usually a little ketchup.

paj 10-18-2003 01:30 PM

what is 'chicago' style?
oh, and ketchup, mustard n sometimes relish

how can you not put ketchup on?
they go so well together!

justin218 10-18-2003 09:16 PM

I like my hotdogs butterflied, grilled, and put on a bun with some mustard. mmmm good

numberfive 10-18-2003 09:36 PM

Mustard. I also toast the bun if I'm at home (with Hebrew National Hotdogs).

cliv 10-19-2003 07:44 AM

Up until a few years ago, plain was the only way for me.

Now mustard or relish (or sometimes plain).

quadro2000 10-20-2003 11:28 AM

If I'm in NYC: Mustard and sauerkraut
If I'm at Ted's in Buffalo: Add two pickles to above combo

Man, do I miss Ted's.

mml 10-20-2003 12:06 PM

So hard to choose!!!!! Must have mustard, but it really depends on my mood. Ketchup, dill relish, mayonaise, ONIONS, peppers, chiles, chili, cheese(especially pepper jack), sauerkraut, celery salt, etc... I love hot dogs and I encourage everyone to experiment.

Rodney 10-20-2003 10:42 PM

Mustard, onion, and chili, with a sweet pickle on the side.

It is beginning to appear that our taste in hotdogs is very regional. A good weiner on a steamed bun, finely chopped onions, good chili and some mustard - that's a hot dog. At least where we live.
