Sci Fi Foods We Wish Actually Existed - Food - io9

So I was reading that article and realized that it wouldn't be difficult to put together recipes for these fictional foods.

It's tough to be a single, low-income grunt (or delivery boy) in the 3000s, so when your stomach is rumbling, but your wallet is empty, there's an easy fix.
3 c. potato flour
3 c. rolled oats
3 c. cooked brown rice
2 c. dry milk (or dry buttermilk, if you can find it)
2 tsp. seasoned salt
3 c. water
4 eggs
1 c. bacon grease
Pepper (optional)

Preheat oven at 175F. Blend flour, oats, rice, dry milk, seasoned salt, and water into doughy mixture. Beat the 4 eggs and melt in the bacon grease until mixed. Stir the egg/fat mixture into the flour/oats mixture. When the ingredients are properly combined, roll the dough (using the term loosely) into very small spheres and place on a baking pan. Or many baking pans, as the case likely is. Bake in 15 degree oven for about 20 minutes, or until kibbles are starting to dry.

Theoretically, these should taste like a poor-man's hush puppies, but I really don't know for sure. The good news is if you don't like them, these can be fed to a dog. (source, sort of)

Okay, now it's your turn: come up with a real recipe for a fictional food from Science Fiction or Fantasy!

With the way io9 featured Futurama, any unsuspecting one not familiar with the series would think it was just one big spoof pawned of as an advertisement cartoon (it is in some regards, but it's not altogether that different from The Simpsons).

Speaking of which, the article you posted reminds me of this one, which I came across around three weeks ago, but had no idea when I'd be ever be afforded the opportunity to share it.

Fallout 3 “Nuka-Cola” Vending Machine Replica

Nuka-Cola is the number 1 beverage in the post-nuclear world of the game Fallout 3.
The Nuka-Cola vending machine is similar to steampunk, but adds a unique aspect of design.
Starting with an old Vendo96 vending machine, the build added custom stickers to replicate
a Nuka-Cola machine from the game. As you can see in the photos, the stickers look
well worn enough to belong in the post-apocalyptic world of the wasteland.

Nuka Cola? Gnarly! I wanna drink that.

I wonder if they make it in diet.

I've heard a good Romulan ale is an absinthe bomb in vodka with a bit of blue food coloring. Bloodwine, iirc, is high proof. Really high proof. The best approximation would probably be a 160 proof rum like this one with a generous helping of red food coloring.

Funny story, in Star Trek Klingon bloodwine is made from fermented sugar and actual blood, probably from targ.

You'd have to add some dry ice because it's supposed to bubble and have mist (the marsh gas)

Raktajino is klingon coffee, served steamed or iced, and is supposedly quite a strong stimulant. I'd say just get an espresso with some heat added. Personally though I prefer ignoring the references to coffee and calling hot cocoa with chili powder, white pepper, cinnamon and maybe even a dash of jalepeno powder a Raktajino.

Gagh are klingon worms, they're supposed to spasm in the throat and stomach. How to pull that off I have no idea and I'm actually kinda vaguely interested in making sure it stays that way.

Tubegrubs are real already and people eat them in many ways as Ripleys will be more than happy to show you.

Beetlesnuff is "a mild stimulant with some euphoric side effects". That's a drug sir, not food. Probably snorting weak snuff made of weed would be as close as you could get without going the synthetic route.

Klingon bloodwine sounds like fun. Twice as potent as whiskey and barely drinkable due to how powerfully intoxicating it was supposed to be, even though it was never officially stated what it was made of. Whiskey is on average 40% ABV so that would make Bloodwine about 80%ABV, or 160 proof which is some pretty strong stuff, getting into the alcohol poisoning range. Worf liked his young sweet so it's got a range of flavor with age, which I guess rules out whiskey and vodka. Personally in keeping with the klingon theme of food being not for the weak of stomach or heart I'd say some kind of spiced mead or even rum and ignore the fictional proof rating for legal and biological reasons.

Romulan ale is described as an "instant drunk" that can overpower and cause a vicious hangover even to klingons so it's got to be even worse than Bloodwine. Only two things come to mind: Vodka and Grain Spirits. Since Romulan Ale is supposed to be illegal and leave you miserable lets go for broke and just call it a day with some blue dyed Everclear and absinthe.

I'm going to add my own to this one too: Bajoran Hasperat. It looks like a burrito, needs a "brine", and if made properly will be so spicy people's eyes water and tongue burns. I'd equate it to a Shwarma with Harissa and spicy Tehina with plenty of paprika in it.
