College Food

Hello, all! I am new here, so go lightly on me. I am a freshman at college in PA and it is getting rather cold. I was hoping to utilize the kitchen area to make chili, but I cannot find a recipe that has few (maybe 5 or 6) ingredients. I do have some cooking experience, but I also want to broaden my skills. I am also perfectly fine with sitting down there for hours while it cooks. However, any leftovers must be able to fit in a relatively small refrigerator. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

* 1 lb. ground beef
* 2 onions, chopped
* 1 cup water
* 3 (14 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with green chilies, undrained
* 1 Tbsp. chili powder
* 2 (15 oz.) cans red kidney beans, rinsed and drained

Well, we're doing mighty fine, I do suppose, in our streak of lightning cars and fancy clothes. But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back, up front there ought to be a man in black.

6-8, though I could probably eat it in two. If you want it thicker, throw in a tablespoon of cornstarch near the end of cooking.

cool, im a freshman too, but I've been in college for 4months now tho.

Usually mine is just rice or bread with honey roast chicken and soup...

For the chicken, you have to boil it first for maybe 10 or 15 minutes before taking it out and coating it with these stuff; honey, soy sauce and oyster sauce. Afterward its up to you if you want to just pan roast them on the stove like i usually do, or you could whack them in the oven, either way they will come out delish!

For the soup, just chicken stock with some salt and spices...

Tadaaa, done.

As a college person, you probably have access to beer. Soak the beans in beer overnight for extra flavor.

Vegetarian chili doesn't have too many ingredients if you use a seasoning packet or purchase a canister of Mexican chili powder (chili powder with cumin). It's also cheaper than chili with meat.

1 medium onion, diced
1 packet chili seasoning or Mexican chili powder to taste (also add garlic if using chili powder)
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can black beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can corn (drained) or 1 cup frozen corn
optional: tomato paste

Saute onion over medium heat with a tablespoon or so of oil. Add seasoning packet once onion is soft. If adding tomato paste, add now. Cook a bit before adding tomatoes, cans of beans and corn. Drain 1 can of the beans if you want a thicker chili. Simmer for half an hour or so to let the flavors come together.
