I'm up north in the Woodlands, but I dont mind driving downtown for a meetup.
GhoastGirl is in college station, but she comes down here some weekends (we try to alternate)

LStanley is in houston as well... he's not too active... but he'd prolly come.

I know theres a couple others in the houston area... and at least one other in college station.


I'd be down to meet up somewhere.

I'm inside 610 near the Galleria, I'm up to go get a drink somewhere....

I'm over in West Houston (Energy Corridor). I'm sure if we had to we could do something somewhere downtown, but I'd love it if it could be a get together somewhere off the beaten path. Cheaper, easier to park, less traffic, etc. I've only been here about three months and haven't been able to get out much, so I'm sure somebody else has somewhere cool worth mentioning.

Theres a bar I like up here Westfield by the Railroad... it would qualify as "off the beaten path"

Its pretty laid back and usually not very crowded (we'd want to make sure to not go on an event night)

A little on the grungy side, but I like it.

A GTG sounds good, but the logistics would be tough for us as w We live in the SE area, but my wife stays in the N/NW area five days a week. Plus one for avoiding DT Houston, but a central location might be best for everyone.

Yea that would be good. I second Westfield by the tracks...it's laid back and the shuffleboard it free. If this is going to happen lets nail down a date and figure out where.

What are you other Houstonians doing for Ike? We opted to stay in town and hunker down for it.

Staying put. They advised us further west not to go anywhere anyways to prevent dangerous conditions on the highway like what happened a few years ago. I went to Subway and got some sandwiches in case I lose power, made some pasta, put a ton of water in the fridge/freezer, bought some canned nuts, etc. I can deal with some flooding, but I REALLY don't want to lose power.

I'm in College Station as well, I'll keep an eye on this thread in case I am in the area.

Well sitting here at work in Spring (NW of Houston) and lucky we have power at work. We have no power at home, no cel reception, no telephone, no cable....only thing that works is the gas stove, and running water. Kinda sucks here but the family is doing it's best to wait this one out. We went without power for almost 2 full weeks in Florida when we got hit my Jeane, Charlie, and Francis all in 5 weeks time. So we have done this all before. Good luck to those that are still without, and Prayers out to everyone who has it as bad or worse than us...some people down south dont even HAVE a home anymore. I cant even imagine how that must be.

I got out lucky, I've got power at home, and at work already...

when would you guys want to get together? next week? after the rebuild? before the holiday season? around halloween?

Sorry for getting back to this so late, but I was Ike-handicapped in my TFPness.

10th or 11th are fine with me as of this second. Unfortunately, I may be shipped out to Colorado or North Carolina for a few weeks for work, but should know by the middle of this week. If that is the case, I'll just have to meet up with the lot of you at a later date.

10th or 11th sounds like a possiility for me and the wife. Let me know when and where. Spring sounds PERFECT for us, just need to know what bar/restaurant to meet at.

That still works for me tentatively. It's always hit or miss whether I get sent somewhere for work, so I really hope I can make it. It shouldn't take me too long to get there, but lets make it late enough to where those of us that need to hop on I-10 , the beltway, or 45 won't have to deal with the Friday rush hour traffic.

My SIL is going to be in from the UK (not a visit we're looking forward to, long story), & getting my wife out on a Friday night is nearly impossible.

I've got no problems with a little house partaaaay. I wouldn't have been drinking much regardless on account of having to drive home. How much further north is it from where the bar was?

Shouldn't be a problem for me. My boss will be gone for 2-3 days, so unless he decides to send me somewhere on Monday before he leaves, I should still be in Houston. I forgot that this Friday is one of my off days as well, so I've got the entire day free.

I'd like to hear if some others plan on showing up so I'm not the third wheel here!

Doesnt make a difference to us. Hell my wife knows I am on this board, but doesnt know anyone on here, so she will be a little shy. If it is not locked in for location, how about a restaurant that has a bar? Chillis? TGI Fridays? I am sorry for not checking in recently, been having alot of things going on at work and with the kids. So just let me know where the idea is, I am not opposed to the Woodlands, actually the Chillis and TGI That I am thinking of is in the Woodlands Mall I think. Just let me know!

I say we all just hang out at the house. If everyone really wants to do something like go out to eat after we're all there, I don't think it would be a problem given that there aren't many of us.

I'll fire up the grill and buy some hot dogs and buns if people want to bring drinks/side dishes/other stuff for grilling. Bring your own beer/liquor, I have some and don't mind sharing but I'd rather not have my supplies decimated.

As people PM me to get the address/let me know what they are bringing I'll post the info here so we dont have people bringing the same stuff.

If the weather is nice I figure we'll mostly hang outside in the backyard, so bring a lawn chair if you have one.

Definitely a go for tomorrow! Not traveling for work because their equipment was DOA. If I can remember to I'll try and grab a couple of 2 liters for tomorrow.

Grabbed 4, 2 liters, two diet, two non diet cokes.

I would bring a chair, but if it wouldn't fit in the back of a Saturn Astra on the move down here, it didn't come with me :p

I'll try to get there as close to 6 as I can, but I'll probably be late. Friday rush hour traffic isn't easy to deal with coming from down this way.

chairs? you got 2 huge sofas and chairs in the livin room... unless you have 10 more ppl coming, we'll be fine...
and how the hell am I supposed to put a chair in the vette anyways? I mean, seriously... hehe...
