NYC Saturday April 14

We already have about 8-9 people confirmed for a lovely TFP day on Saturday April 14. What I'm looking for here is... who else is in? And what do y'all want to do? I can do a house party or a bar party or a something else party, just direct me as to what you'd prefer, and I'll do the planning.

Bring it!

ubertuber 03-26-2007 11:49 AM

Ummm... Let's have BBQ.

And booze.

amonkie 03-26-2007 01:00 PM

I got the grey goose down ...

JustJess 03-27-2007 06:01 PM

ubertuber, you're in the SOUTH, man, get some real BBQ!! Sheesh. Any other ideas??

ubertuber 03-27-2007 06:06 PM

Ummm.... Brazilian grill?

JustJess 03-27-2007 06:19 PM

Wow. I didn't actually expect you to respond to that. :) Maybe Brazilian... are you just doing dinner Saturday, or the whole enchilada?

ubertuber 03-27-2007 06:21 PM

Erm, probably just Saturday. My office would send ninja assassins to kill me if I was gone for two days right before tax season is over.

Besides, it's all you can eat meat and sword. What else do we need to say?

(and I just might sneak some BBQ sauce in my pocket - shhhhhh)

aberkok 03-27-2007 08:12 PM

I'm in.

Halx 03-27-2007 08:21 PM

zkara and I will be there!

The_Jazz 03-28-2007 04:51 AM

Unfortunately, I'm going to miss this by a few days. I have to be in NYC on 4/17-18 for some meetings and a Yankees game. Dang.

Meditrina 03-28-2007 04:58 AM

Once I find someone to take the kids for me, I will let you know if I can come or not. I am not picky about what we do. I just want to meet all of you!

JustJess 03-28-2007 05:58 AM

Widow: bribe the MIL! bribe the MIL! :)
Jazz: you could just come in to NYC early.... muaahahahahaha!

:p

Aberkok, Halx, zkara: any preference on activities? locations?

amonkie 03-28-2007 07:40 PM

COLD STONE!!! Says the girl who's been deprived :D Or homemade ice cream if we can come up with some empty coffee cans and a flat surface...

Meditrina 04-01-2007 01:15 PM

 I am good to go.

The kids will be staying at my mother in law's for the night! I don't even have to go home to get them that night!

oh - but I am eating an early dinner at her house for her bday first.

sooo what's the plans??? and I will need to know which train to take, etc. etc.

can you tell I am excited?

JustJess 04-01-2007 06:42 PM

YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!

That rocks, Widow. Monkie and I decided on the Bodies exhibit at the South Street Seaport during the day. What do you think? :D

YAYAYAY!!

ubertuber 04-01-2007 07:08 PM

OOOOHHH!!!! I really want to go to that again. Maybe I can rearrange schedule a little...

Meditrina 04-03-2007 08:50 AM

Well, I can't go to the Seaport during the day :(

Are you doing anything at night?

JustJess 04-03-2007 11:21 AM

Don't worry about it, darlin' - whatever time you can get to the city it will be a good time to be there. :D

Okay, sooo... Bodies at around 11-ish, with maybe cynthetiq and ubertuber, and definitely me and amonkie. Anyone else? Afternoon thoughts? I'm definitely cogitating on dinner and outness.... muahahahahaha! Oh, people, keep in mind - Bodies is expensive. We're talking about $25/per person. FYI.

I'm really looking forward to this!

JustJess 04-09-2007 08:37 AM

SO FAR:

11-ish: Bodies Exhibit, SouthStreetSeaport
Afternoon: I dunno yet!
6pm-ish: Dinner so that ubertuber can make it back to VA alive
After dinner: Out! Probably east of Union Square, where the bars are plentiful and roomy.

*BUMP*

amonkie 04-09-2007 01:41 PM

$25???? Oye. *looks at her semi empty pockets after Gas ($3/gal. double oye.)

I'll be there, ... what we do, I don't care :D

Just remember, I gotta drive home Sunday .. :D

aberkok 04-09-2007 04:44 PM

That sounds great. I will be there with bells on. The bodies exhibit has always creeped me out so it'll be good to go with some people who can protect me when they INEVITABLY COME BACK TO LIFE YOU KNOW THEY WILL!!!!!!!! I'm a little swamped tonight with packing, but I'll have a look at directions when I arrive tomorrow. If I'm confused I'll PM someone. Otherwise I'll meet you at the exhibit.

JustJess 04-10-2007 06:07 AM

OKAY!
Brazilian BBQ it is. Cynthetiq so helpfully found this place, which has some nice lookin' reviews and isn't as costly as some of the other B-BBQ places.
http://www.carne-vale.com/
I'll make a reservation for us. So far, it's Cyn (maybe Skogafoss), Halx, Zkara, Uber, Monkie, Aberkok, SWidow and moi. Anyone else want in? 6pm on Saturday!

PM me if you aren't on this list and want to be. :*

Cynthetiq 04-10-2007 06:09 AM

http://www.carne-vale.com/images/index_05.jpg

MEAT AND M... umm Carnivale dancers!!!!!

ubertuber 04-10-2007 06:21 AM

Cynthetiq - you are really, really the best.

JustJess 04-10-2007 06:24 AM

Oh, I almost forgot: Bodies!
11am in front of here:
EXHIBIT INFORMATION

(at the corner of Front Street)

I'll send directions to anyone who wishes to join us.

Meditrina 04-10-2007 05:23 PM

I'll need directions from Penn Station to the restaurant, just in case I am brave enough to walk instead of taking a cab.

ubertuber 04-10-2007 05:25 PM

Yeah, that's not really close. You're going to want to cab it I think. I've never been to alphabet city, so I'm excited!

Cynthetiq 04-10-2007 06:08 PM

well they hipstered the name.. it's now called... Lower Eastside to some... or even... East Village to others.

Meditrina 04-10-2007 06:10 PM

so does anyone care to meet me at Penn Station and take a cab ride with me? :D

JustJess 04-10-2007 06:11 PM

How about I (we) meet you and just take the train? I hate cabs unless I'm too drunk to manage otherwise (and no smart aleck comments from anybody on that one!!).

Meditrina 04-10-2007 06:14 PM

You will meet me at Penn? Oh! That would be wonderful!

I am far from being a city girl, being alone makes me a bit nervous.

I checked the schedule. The train would get in at 6pm. That might be a problem, since you made the reservation for 6.

ubertuber 04-10-2007 06:15 PM

I think I'm gonna drive to the restaurant so I can leave from there to go home. Maybe we can work something out.

Let me figure a couple of things out and I'll PM you tomorrow/Wed.

JustJess 04-10-2007 06:17 PM

I could push it to 630 if you can't get in before 6p, or I can get uber to pick yo' sweet self up, or we could leave one of our other awesome TFP peeps there.. we'll getcha there. Don't you worry.

Meditrina 04-10-2007 06:18 PM

I love you guys. :icare:

Redlemon 04-11-2007 05:19 AM

I wish I could be there. Jess was kind enough to email me, since I hadn't been on board for a while, but we already have family stuff planned for this weekend.

Enjoy the Bodies - I caught the show back in December. They didn't come to life that time, but I might not have brought the right stuff with me.

JustJess 04-12-2007 08:15 AM

Okay! I updated our reservations for Saturday for 6:15 (for SW!), and it's now 11 people... although amonkie won't tell me who the other two are. !!

Does anyone have thoughts/opinions/hopes for afternoon things in NYC, or things after dinner?

aberkok 04-12-2007 08:20 AM

Well... this has been only my second full day here and I'm already burning out on live music. I'd love to chill with a coffee in between the main events Saturday. A nice quiet bar would also suit me after. I'm coming to see my TFP friends after all and wouldn't want to be too distracted.

JustJess 04-12-2007 08:30 AM

Well, yeah, I like me some coffee. A lot. A lot. Maybe we'll explore Union Square or Central Park if it's nice out... If not, well, shit, I'm not sure. We'll figure something out!

As for after, that is exactly what I was thinking. Preference on type? This is NYC, after all, we fetishize our watering holes. Hm, that sounded wrong. But I digress.

Quiet: Pubs, lounges, piano bars, dives... you tell me! There's a ton of stuff in the area of the restaurant. TONS. It's a happenin' place, I tells ya.

aberkok 04-12-2007 01:12 PM

I'm thinking a pub.

amonkie 04-12-2007 02:04 PM

Yeah... quiet is the name of the game, DINO BBQ was so loud I was the only one who could "hear" since I read lips.

LOVE COFFEEE, Love wine/beer.... i'm good :D. Just make sure there's no mortuary or science/biology geeks throwing a party.

Cynthetiq 04-13-2007 05:43 AM

Skogafoss is in... I mentioned Churrascaria and she was like... "Churrascaria ??? I'll go to that..."

JustJess 04-13-2007 05:49 AM

:surprised:WOOOHOOOOO!:love: :hyper::love:

:D

Okay! Next question: who's in for the Bodies Exhibit at 11-ish, South Street Seaport?
 :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

aberkok 04-13-2007 08:41 AM

You can count on my steel!

little_tippler 04-13-2007 02:37 PM

Well, I will be there in thought! I have been to bodies before, it's pretty amazing in a really creepy way...also if, you go for brazilian barbecue, make sure you eat a cut of meat called Picanha...it really is the best meat ever! Have fun, I'll be waiting for pics :)

Supple Cow 04-13-2007 02:39 PM

Oh man, you guys are getting meat served to you on swords by swash-buckling foreign men.... I am so jealous.

Giant Hamburger 04-13-2007 02:58 PM

Hail Citizens!

If I were there I would swath you from hair to toe in the perfumed entrails of recently killed platypode and then treat you to the looping, high-stepping dance of my people.

I would serve you pickled tree barks and aromatic mosses that evoke a splendorous age once forgotten.

To enchanting beats I would twist my supple body from one luxurious position to another whilst indulging the exotic whims of each and every one of you.

Sadly, I can not attend.

Yes, sadly...

Tippler, what is Picanha?

Charlatan 04-14-2007 09:29 AM

Someone has to get GH a ticket so he can attend.

...and while you are at it, get me one.

Cynthetiq 04-14-2007 01:56 PM

IT'S TIME FOR MEAT!!!!!!

little_tippler 04-15-2007 03:32 AM

Behold the delicious picanha (pronounced pee-can-ya):

I asked the server what he was bringing us every time he came. Unfortunately they introduced everything to us by english names. It was as though he thought I couldn't handle the truth. I can tell you this: if they served that, I ate it. Probably several times.

Of the meat that looked vaguely like that, we has skirt steak, flank steak, ribeye, and prime rib.

I want to go back.

Halx 04-15-2007 10:05 AM

It was soooo gooooood!

JustJess 04-15-2007 10:32 AM

Yeah, and the meat was damned good too. :p Seriously, this is my new favorite churrascaria. It's ON. I may have to go back within a couple of weeks or something.

Cynthetiq 04-15-2007 10:42 AM

really? there's one not too far from where you live... Greenfield. There's free parking and it's $ 26.95/pp
http://www.greenfieldchurrascaria.com/sinal.gif
just say the word and we'll book the time.

I've not been there in years, but in it's heyday, I'd got once a week sometimes twice. They have a selection of measts that is unsurpassed.

I mean look at the roasting sword area...

crap... now i'm hungry for meat again!!!!

Is that a portmanteau - meats and feasts? ;)

That looks amazing! I may take my friends to the one in Rockville after they help me move next weekend. :)

Lucifer 04-15-2007 11:21 AM

OK, we get it - the meat was great. Now where are the photos from the event?

JustJess 04-15-2007 11:32 AM

All the photos live on zkara's camera and amonkie's camera... I dunno why zkara is taking SOOOOO LOOOOOONG :p but amonkie is currently driving through a monsoon to get back to Rochester.

/runs off to call and see how the trip is going!

Meditrina 04-15-2007 12:26 PM

I had such an amazing time! The train ride was fine, the food was great, and the company even better! I am so glad I met all of you. I hope we can do it again sometime. Here is the group shot we took after dinner.

Lies! They turned you into zombies too and now you're just telling us this so you can trick the rest of us into meeting all of you so you can turn us too! :D

Looks like a good time was had by all. :)

Meditrina 04-15-2007 05:55 PM

Yay! I loved seeing these pics. Can you send me the one of us four girls?

abaya 04-16-2007 03:56 AM

Shoot, we really missed a good party! :( But we feel cool anyway because we've met every single one of ya (okay, not Skogafoss, but we'll be seeing her and Cyn in Iceland soon!) :D Damn fine people.

Long live TFP!!!
