Toronto Meetup September
 

Hello,
I plan to be in Toronto on the night of September 3rd, (cause I'll be attending the Sci-Fi convention at the MTCC in hopes of seeing Dr. Crusher, whom I've had a crush on for years) and was wondering if the local gang would like to get together for a drink or 4?

Count me in.

I'm playing at the Ashkenaz Festival that afternoon and will be free afterwards. If tickets are cheap I might even try to find you at the Sci-Fi Con.

If I have the monday the 4th off... I will definitely see what I can do. I will just need a place to crash ...

...sigh...

This is probably some good timing since I plan to be out of town after labour day.

I've never been to a Bi-Mon Sci-Fi Con before. Maybe I'll join you guys there too.

So, sci-fi con on sunday afternoon and drinks after? sounds like a plan to me...I'm only in town on the 3rd, cause I'm picking Hagatha up at the airport on the 4th to go to the cottage for a few days before leaving for Scotland on the 7th. I'll be staying at the Delta Chelsea downtown, and I'll be arriving on the 1:00 train, so I'll probably head straight for the con, and check in to the hotel later. The con is on from (I think) 11 - 5 on Sunday.

I am all over the Dax (especially when she started kicking Worf's ass) and Ensign Ro...

Hmm, it appears now that I might not be able to make it. My ride to Waterloo may be leaving on the 1st instead of the fifth. I'll know more as the date gets closer.

Hey Lucy's at King and John has a pitcher of tasty Sangria for $20. Then we head to a bar just down the street which has a sweet patio...Gabby's or Gradies's...or something...

Monkie has the 4th off .. will just have to see if I have the cash left over after paying bills Sept 1 to afford the gas up/back ...

Just so everyone knows, tickets to the con are $45 for the weekend. I remember in previous years, they had 1 day tickets. Not sure if they're doing it this year.

yes, 1 day passes are available for $20 at ticketmaster or the door.

Toronto - I am in and out of that place all the time, and more often than not a meetup happens when my time is pre-booked. I will be getting into town late on the 3rd to see my lady. I do wonder though if I could swing the one-day passes for my lads and I for the Con. I have always wanted to see a Con.
I still wouldn't be able to do the meet tho - the lads have to be taken back home to their mother instead of warehoused somewhere while I have a tipple with TFP :(
I will raise a paper cup of Tim Hortons coffee in silent salute to the folks that do gather. Bring your cameras so we can see your smiley faces :)

If you can do me a favor and keep this thread as updated as possible, I wouldnt be able to do the Con but if I know where you guys are meeting later and when, if a birdy drops some cash I might surprise ya :)

And monkie... staying at my place is an open invitation, so I'll be crossing my fingers 'til the day of.

I'd like to extend an open invitation to all the casual posters and lurkers from the area to take the leap and come on out too. The meetup is totally informal and you won't find a more easygoing bunch in the city. Even if you just drop in to say hi, we'd be happy to meet you.

There will be plenty of chairs so what are you waiting for? :)

Perhaps we should bang out some actual plans? I would say 1 involving those that are going to the con, and another one to meet up with those that aren't going.

If we have some actual plans, I can tell them to cellophanedeity. She sounded interested in the meet up, but didn't want to go to the con.

Tell Cello if she needs a ride I can get her if neccessary .. I MISS HER!!!


I am pretty much open to whatever ... since aberkok's letting me crash that makes things easier for me. Early evening would be great. As to what and where, I haven't been disappointed yet with any picks by you guys :)

To start the plan rolling....

I like Mantus' suggestion of Gabby's. It's your basic pub with a patio and it's right downtown, a few blocks from the CON. http://www.gabbys.ca

According to the CON website, it closes at 6pm on Sunday. So why don't we plan to meet at Gabby's around 6pm.

As for the CON itself, I'm just going to check out the Vendors' area in the afternoon. I don't want to pull any of you away from the specific events, so if I see you there, great. Otherwise, I think I can hold on until the evening. :)

Would there be parking near Gabbys? Or aberkok ... If I can park at your place like last time and get directions to Gabby's if you're going to be at the Con already...

There is meter parking available on the streets as well as a number of paid lots.

Expect to pay around $5-7 for the evening. :thumbsup:

I'm not interested in going to any conventions, but drinks and/or dinner I can definitely do.

I've just been thinking I might not make it to the Con given that I have my gear down at the Harbourfront and have to get it home before coming out to socialize. I wouldn't be able to make it to the Con before 4p.m. I'll think about this over the week and make sure you all know what I'm doing.

Monkie, you can park at my place, but then it's a subway ride and a walk to the Con. It's probably still a good idea given parking in this city. At any rate, if you want to meet at my place then it'd have to be in the morning since I have to leave for my gig. I can't see a problem if you just parked without me even being there - it's visitors parking and you're still visiting me right? :)

Who am I kidding? It is worth it to be with you guys at the Con for just two hours! I will come there as soon as I get my gear back...then, of course, for drinks after. That part was never in question.

Monkie I'll figure out the details if I know what time you're coming. I'll give you some good directions to get to the Con from my place if you need them.

There's a good chance I might not be able to make the con. However, I will be able to make the dinner/drinks for sure.

Glad to see that this is shaping up. I'm finally off my ship for a month's vacation. It was touch and go there for a while as we were 60 hours loading coke in Gary, and my relief was waiting for us to leave before checking in, so I was chewing my fingernails. But success, I'm off now!! and I will be seeing you guys at the Con or at Gabby's after.

Should I just come find people at the Con? Maybe you, Lucifer, or Fresnelly could shoot me a cell number over PM so I can find you when I get there.

Close, but the correct location is 309 King Street West. It's just west of John St., across from the Holiday Inn, in the same area as the Indian restaurant we met at last time.

The weather is supposed to be rainy and cold (shakes fist at Ernesto) so I imagine we'll be inside.
