Joss Wedon to write/direct Wonder Woman
This just in from a trade email that just arrived in my inbox... sorry no link.
Buffy creator to make Wonder Woman flick Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind, Joss Whedon is staking his claim to another female superhero, according to UK press. Reports claim that Whedon has been tapped by Warner Bros to write and direct the studio's Wonder Woman feature film. The deal, which is understood to be almost done, comes just two months after Whedon announced he was getting out of the TV biz to focus on making movies. So what do you think? I've never been a huge fan of Wonder Woman but I would love to see what Wedon can do with the property. It could be a very cool franchise. |
Wonder Woman the tv show with Lynda Carter was very campy and almost comedic... I'd imagine that with Whedon doing it as a movie, it'd be a lot darker -- similar to how the Batman movies got a lot darker than the tv series.
Casting will be fascinating... |
darker, i dunno
one thing's for sure, though, he's going to design it for maximum popularity factor. |

I loved the Wonder Woman series when I was a kid.....but it would be better as a movie if it were a little more filled out. |

when joss does good work he's great i hope his persistent attitude problem and penchant toward prima-donna behavior doesn't get in the way of creating a great film.

Who's gonna play her??

might the Wonder Woman/Buffy connection continue by having Eliza Dushku play her? Not quite sure if she's right for it, but she's the first one who comes to mind when I think of possible actresses for the role.

They really need to update the costume. The stars, stripes and golden eagle thing is just plain tacky (and bloody cold I'd imagine too).
Maleficent... when I read "filled out" I had the same 10-year-old boy reaction... Not having read anything new in the WW world, and only basing this opinion on the old TV show and her appearences in the old JLA cartoons, I always found WW to be soft. I know, I know, she's not soft! She's just written that way. She has such potential to be a kick ass hero (IMO). When I think Amazon Princess, I think of all the ground work that comes out of Xena... Now there was a kick ass hero, to be sure. Wonder Woman needs a little Xena in her. |
"might the Wonder Woman/Buffy connection continue by having Eliza Dushku play her?"
hmm...Dawn? Willow? Anya? Cordelia? maybe Halfrek? How 'bout Glory (Clare Kramer)? |
I would like to see Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax from Deep Space Nine) play Wonder Woman.
What about Jennifer Connely? Anyone else? |
Jennifer Connelly's gotten mighty thin... I don't think she'd be right for WW. I agree that the role would need to be tougher than the series. Elizah Dushku would be a good choice, but she'd need to put some "Sarah Connor" into her workout, plus she's too short. Ultimately, whoever plays WW need to be tall, dark haired, athletic, yet still curvy. Also, with all the liberties taken with Batman's costume over the years, I agree that some changes could be made to WW costume.

Terry Farrell -- my only fear is that she is getting too old for the role.

She's too old and thin for the role, IMO. How about Kristanna Loken, who played the TX-1000 in Terminator 3? She's got the right age (26), height (5'11") and build (put on 15lbs of muscle for T3 role), and she's smoking! She'd only have to dye her hair black.
