Ray
Anyone want to see it? It may be early but i'd be surprisd if Jamie Foxx doesnt get an Oscar Nod...when i first heard of the movie i was a bit skeptical but after viewing the trailers the similarities b/w the the actor and the musician are uncanny.
I'm looking forward to it. The previews look pretty good, but then again, most do!
I definitely am going to see this one and yes if he doesn't at least get a nod I'd be surprised.
Looks like a good movie.

Since they went the right way picking Jamie to play Ray I'm sure it will be great. Once you've got the lead role right, making a movie about one of the greatest artists music has ever seen almost couldn't produce a bad movie. I'm hoping I'm right but I really love Ray Charles and I have very high hopes for this one.

I've never liked Jamie Foxx as an actor, I don't know why. Maybe it's just the fact I don't find his comedy funny at all and in the preview he just seems to be overplaying the fact that Ray is blind.
I like that line when he says " I'm going to make it do what it do, baby."
Cracks me up each time I see it. |

movie is 2 hrs 40 mins, hella long, but i dont think you could have done the story justice in just 2
I don't know why people think Foxx can't do him justice. He plays the piano, and Ray Charles approved of him himself. So I dunno if you guys think you're such a good judge of character that you are right over Ray Charles, or maybe you really hated booty call, but I say give him a chance. Yeesh :|
I also agree that they never give Foxx anything to REALLY showcase his talents. Same with Jim Carrey. I'm glad they finally have.

On ET today they said that Jamie actually glued his eyelids shut while he was on set in order to play the role out to its fullest. Thats fuckin dedication.

Critics are saying he's guaranteed an Oscar nomination.
I can't wait to see it
He looks a lot like Ray. And as far as overplaying Ray's blindness. If you watch a decent chunk of video of Ray playing Jamie's head motions and mannerisms are pretty much spot on with Ray's. I'll go see this sometime next month.
from the previews, the movie looks badass. I want to see it at one point (theater or DVD). it's awesome that jamie foxx is getting into other genres.
Foxx's previous movies did indeed lower his potential. But with collateral and now this one, he is starting to find his true genre.
Just saw it today! AWESOME movie! Definitely a must see, especially for any blues/gospel/country fans. And I'm talkin' about REAL country; none of that "I gotta BBQ stain on my white T-Shirt!" crap. Jamie Foxx's portrayal of Ray Charles was phenomenal.
^ Hey do you have this album?
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...1.LZZZZZZZ.jpg I've only heard small doses of it. Don't have any Ray Charles albums. I was wondering if they cover any of that time in the movie or not. I hear it was a huge impact and was hailed by the critics of his time so to put it in the movie would be pretty relevant. Asta!! |
Good to see some solid reviews of this movie. I will be going out to see it this weekend.
I finally saw this movie yesterday and was blown away. Jamie Foxx deserves at least a nomintion for Best Actor. I highly recommend it.

Bought this movie and watched it last night. Many praises to Jamie, and to the movie itself.
I really don't give a fart in a high wind what anyone thinks about Jamie Foxx based on what they saw in preview or in his other movie. This is not Jamie Foxx in Booty Call, or some old show. This is amazing. I can't tell you how easy it is to plain forget you're watching Jamie Foxx. There were several times when I started to wonder if this particular scene was old footage of Ray at a show, or CGI, then I'd realise, "Holy Shit, this is still Jamie Foxx." Completely amazing performance. I haven't seen Collateral, and I really wasn't excpecting to see this much talent from Jamie. I feel bad for my man Leonardo D, because I thought he kicked ass in the Aviator, but I'm hoping Jamie Foxx gets his Oscar this year. It's one hell of a performance. You've see Ray Charles on TV at some point? You'll think it's Ray in this movie. Especially as the movie gets to Ray in his 40-50s, then it's really hard to remember you're seeing Jamie Fox. I mean, damn. He's dissapears into Ray. He IS Ray for 160 minutes or so. The movie itself takes names too. Ray lived a life with sadness, joy, coldheartedness, love, all the things you'd expect from a musical great, and a lot I didn't. At no point did the movie get overly dramatic or press certain points. It would have been easy for the movie to stick on Ray getting banned from playing in Gerogia, go a whole side trip about racism in the south in the 60's. But, the resisted the urge. The movie showed it and dealt with it, never made it into some crusade or point just to score with the audiance. More, "this is what happened, here's our intrupitation of those events, now move on." Really good movie, really emotional. I liked how it was shot, I liked the pacing, and I liked the story. I really enjoyed watching Ray. Give that movie a go. |

Great show like everyone has been saying... finally saw it when it came out on Dvd last week... recommend to anyone! |
^ Yeah I noticed they actually did cover that album in the movie I thought that was really cool. I completely agree with billege though I thought it was a truly great performance. I feel so sorry for Jamie though..I mean he actually got to hang out with Ray, play with him, sing with him, basically absorb him and become friends with him and then Ray left us just when he was getting to know him. :( That had to be hard. I mean it's Ray Charles if I had gotten to meet him I'da been devistated.

Not that I didn't feel his loss myself but it's different.
