is www.imdb.com getting political???

Last day I read an article in a Danish newspaper that there's trouble with the imdb rating of the tremendous movie "Doville" by Lars Von Trier and starring Nicole Kidman...

The article stated that imdb found the movie to be "anti-american" and has therefore cheated with the rating. The movie started out by 8.3 which ensured it a place among the top 20 movies. But around New Year it suddenly dissapeared from the list. Imdb had erased 1000 votes from fans who all rated it to 10 and therefore the average dropped to 7.7

Seriously, what's up with that? That kind of thing really pisses me off! I don't care how anti-american that movie may be, imdb has no right to cheat with the votes because it offends them and/or their country... aren't they supposed to be neutral about movies?! What do you think??

I know some places delete most of the perfect scores and the lowest scores to prevent people from cheating it and just voting good or bad to screw with the rating.
Maybe it's the case here? I'm not familiar with how IMDB does things, but they could just have a similar system.

I dunno. Take all the "ratings" on IMDB with a grain of salt. When it's some little independent movie that went direct-to-video and nobody's really seen, and it's got a rating of 7+, you can be the producer's family has been pumping up the rating with shill votes. Same goes for the user comments: when a new movie comes out, three or four massively favorable, totally uncritical posts appear. You gotta know how to separate the wheat from the chaff.

What other people rate a movie has no bearing on whether I'll see it or not anyway.

Their voting system is complicated, not everyones votes are counted, and some people's votes are worth more because they are in the top 1000 voters. I'd go as far as to say that that the staff's vote is worth 20-30x as much as a regular voters.

Only advice I can give is that if you give a film a 10 it disappears from your voting history, damnit, vote again.

I personally don't really look at the votes for that reason. I do vote though

It could be possible they deleted multiple votes from people. Either way, I take an online voting system with a grain of salt anyways.
