Adam Sandler: Yay or Nay?
 

I think Adam Sandler is pretty much a love him or hate him kind of actor. I find most of his stuff to be stupid and not funny, but some of my friends absolutely love him. I don't hate everything he does. I liked Airheads and when he did Opera Man on SNL, but most of his work I just don't see the appeal.

He's funny as hell! I say yay all the way.

The only movie worth a shit that he's ever been in is Punch Drunk Love. His other movies aren't funny at all and every director that has him cast simply makes him play the same character in every movie. "Get really pissed and yell at the bad guy." Ha ha. That, and talk with that really annoying voice.

I've yet to see Punch Drunk Love, but I'd like to. I've heard several good things about it. I meant to mention it in the original post, but I basically would have said that I didn't enter it into my equation.

Besides, his role in that movie is obviously a break from his normal roles anyway.

He's an every now and again guy for me. I can't sit down and watch every single Adam Sandler movie one after the other, but I can sit down and enjoy his movies like Happy Gilmore and The Waterboy every now and again.

Hell yeah, Adam rocks. The first time I watched Happy Gilmore I think I broke something I was laughing so fucking hard.

His movies generally aren't really all that great, in my opinion. The first few I watched were pretty funny, but then after that, I realized how static his acting is. The only differences between any of the characters he plays are the clothes they wear. That, and like what Laser said, his "voice" really grates on the nerves after a while.

Happy Gilmore was the only one I'd watch again, and just because I love the Bob Barker fight scene

Gotta agree with Jimmy4 here. He's a 'yay' but in moderation...

I never really liked that kind of humour.. Seems a little childish, so it's a big Nay for me. *shrug*

If im in the mood, he's a funny actor.

Most of the time I hate the films he is in. But the Wedding Singer was very good. I think he is someone who could just fade a way in the next few years.

Adam Sandler is the MAN! by far the best move was happy gilmore...by far. Wedding singer was ok...didnt like Drew barrymore very much.

I think he is pretty funny but his movies come up short.

I'm not even sure why he's famous. Never found him all that funny.

And sometimes, he don't...and I turn the channel.
I don't usually go out of my way to see his movies in the theater,
I usually wait for the video.

But, he's decent enough.

Sandler has flopped harder then any comedian I can think of. Its suprising that somebody who started off so funny could drastically fall into the unfunny category so abruptly.

Don't find him funny at all, in fact I think he's a sad, sad individual, and I feel sorry for his parents knowing that they brought unto the earth such an unfortunate human being.

He was filler on SNL, nuf said...C'mon folks, we need better than that type of panderous comedy.

I have to say yay, because Happy Gilmore is one of my favourite comedy movies ever, and I really liked Punch Drunk Love and Billy Madison.

Other than those movies, The rest of his stuff (not including SNL) is sub-par.

As long as he doesn't waste his talent doing crap like Puch Drunk Love he is outstanding...even Little Nicky has big laughs in it [sure not a great movie, but some funny stuff].

I'm not an Adam Sandler fan. I did enjoy Billy Madison and the Wedding Singer, but I just really don't enjoy any of his other movies.

Punch Drunk Love, CRAP? You're joking right . . . right? Are you crazy, that movie was kick ass.

In fact, that's one of my favorite movies that he has been in, if not my favorite.

I don't like "Adam Sandler Movies", like Big Daddy, or Water Boy or any of that kind of rubbish. Not to my taste.
But I really liked Punch Drunk Love... he was really very good in that! Surprised me! Maybe it's showing that he starting to mature as an actor? Or maybe not?

Adam is funny as hell. sometimes his movies are a bit bla but they have shining moments.

When he isn't doing his retarded voices, I like him. Wedding Singer, Happy Gilmore, Punch Drunk Love are all really good movies.

Everytime I see Little Nicky or Waterboy, I want to reach through my TV and punch him in the throat...

NO WAY, some of his songs are funny as hell (yes some are stoopid though too). The one in the wedding singer that he wrote half while going out with his girlfriend and the other half after they broke up had me rolling.

Punch Drunk Love was fantastic. Everything else he's done is pure kindergarten playground recess material.

He reminds me of the cousin I had growing up who made annoying sounds and faces, but I couldn't run fast enough to catch him and beat his ass.

I like his SNL stuff, not too crasy about his movies.
However, my friends and I almost died laughing during Mr. Deeds when Adam was throwing the cats out the window.

His early work was great. Since then however the creativity well has run dry and he keeps putting out the same crap over and over, or producing shitty crap.

I think he's pretty damn funny, yay here.

I loved Punch Drunk Love and I have only seen one Adam Sandler movie I didnt like and it was called Overboard.

Some of his stuff I quite enjoy, but most of it I don't. Some of his audio skits are pretty hilarious though.

I happen to think he is damn funny, when u watch one of his movies you dont care about the plot and you know it will never win an oscar or anything but its freakin funny. Even the crap movies like little nicky were funny. Punch Drunk Love was a good movie too, but any actor could have pulled that role off. No one could pull off the Waterboy or Happy Gilmore like sandler. There is a reason why Sandler is the highest paid actor in hollywood...

He's the poster boy for lowest-common denominator comedy. Ass jokes seem to still be popular with the movie-going public, it seems.

I used to watch him on SNL, and wonder how someone with this little talent made it so far. That's not to say he's never made me laugh, but it's the kind of laugh you hate yourself for later.

Now now! You can't take away THIS lofty accolade from the master of non-comedy: Tom Green.

happy gilmore/waterboy were good movies for the once over, snl skits are generally good. he showed actual acting talent with PDL, was able to use his irrational anger bit with actual depth and reasoning behind it. all the other crap hes come out with in the last 8 years aside from the two afforementioned films dont even warrant mention. ill go with nay, though id like to see him in more straight roles, PDL was stimulating to say the least :p inspiring for someone in the throws of depression (which was the state i found myself in when i first saw it).

never thought too much of him, but wedding singer was alright, punch drunk love played to his strengths; playing anger. hes good at anger and seems to be angry in all his movies. i think he might need a good therapist.

I loved him in Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer and Airheads. I hated him in everything else. He is one of those people you either love or hate. There is no inbetween.

Anyone fans of any of his CDs? I just downloaded "They're All Gonna Laugh at You!" recently (I used to own it, but I'll be damned if I've seen it in like 8 years), and there is some really funny stuff on it.

To anyone that's knocked his singing, check out Medium Pace from that album. You'll never think of shampoo bottles in the same way ever again....

I don't find Adam Sandler all that funny, sure he had his moments on SNL, but he can't act for shit. The only movie I've actually enjoyed he was in, was Big Daddy.

i think all his movies are funny as hell, excluding little nicky actually... it had some funny parts, but was much different than his other movies

basically all the movies have the same type of humour, and i can see how it gets played out for some people, but big daddy is much of the same humour as happy gilmore or billy madison

"oh billy boy.. when are you going to find whatever it is you're looking for".. next scene cuts to billy madison saying.. "here's a nice piece of shit".. as sandler puts a piece of shit into a bag

and the fact that so many things are just so random.. makes the whole movie funny

also.. toll booth willy is the greatest, along with a lot of his stuff from his cd's.. never really watched saturday night live though.. so i don't know what his humour was like then
