Interesting movie... starred that guy from Fast and Furious and 2Fast also. Richard Donner produced, and Micheal Crichton wrote the story.
Was a time travel movie involving archeologists travelling back in time to 13C France. Not half bad... |
You've seen it? I thought the movie comes out in November.
I'm looking forward to this one... I read the book, which was very good, and I love time travel movies in all their myriad forms.
I saw a preview for this awhile ago and have not seen anything sense. Is it out?
I loved the book. I think I read it in 2 days I was so into it. Previews look decent I just hope they don't deviate to much from the novel. Either way I'll probably just wait to rent it.
I read the book way back when it first came out. I remember I liked it. I liked the Physics of Time Travel they had more than the actual story, though.
I saw a preview for it last night in Manhattan... I have no idea as to the release date. let me check....IMDB.com says:
Release dates for Timeline (2003) http://us.imdb.com/Title?0300556 USA 26 November 2003 Argentina 19 February 2004 Belgium 17 March 2004 Netherlands 18 March 2004 |
hate paul walker.. acting is very canned. hope he doesnt ruin the movie, it was a good book (from the preview, the set pieces look pretty good. the rest of the cast i actually rather like)
i saw the preview, to me it looked forced, i dunno, i loved the book, and could totally see it as a movie, just not the movie they created. Billy Connolly as the Professor? i like him a lot, but not at all how i envisioned him. i dunno, just doesn't seem right. oh well, just have to wait and see.
I went to a show last week and saw the preview. It looks OK, but I have a feeling they're going to screw it up. Paul Walker? Nooo.
Anyway, the book was awesome. I'll probably re-read it and go check out the flick. |
Having read the book quite a while ago, I have hopes that it will be distant enough the movie will be fresh and better then it would if i was looking for things to critique, as would be the case if it was a recent read.
The book was <i>very</i> good. I remember thinking at the time that I was reading it that it would make a great movie. I had no idea that they were actually going to make one. I gotta go see that. I hope they don't screw it up too much.
Thanks to gifts, I own three identical copies of this book and have never even picked it up. Maybe, given the enthusiastic support in this thread, I will finally get around to it.

Fantastic book. I just wonder if it's gonna be a Disclosure or Jurassic Park, or if it'll be a Congo or The Lost World.
The video game for the book sucked, but I'm hoping the movie will be awesome. It definitly has potential.
The book was really good!
I can't wait for the movie (although movies don't often reach the same level as their book counterparts) |
Has anyone read Prey? I thought Prey was one of his better works as well too.
Prey is a movie script. Apparently he got tired of "creative liberties" and wrote for the movie.
Oh really - I wasn't even aware that it had any hopes of being made for the silver screen.
Prey was pretty enjoyable, it seemed somewhat short for one of his books, I suppose that this explains why. |
Prey was NOT as good as I hoped. Looking back on The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park one gets a sense of recycling. But no threadjack. Who wants a copy of Timeline, by the by? Hardcover! :)

If it is, I'll take a copy. Are you giving it away? :) |
Anyone seen the movie yet? I might be going tomorrow and am just curious about it.
I really liked the book, but couldn't force myself to want to go see it this last Wednesday. I still may end up going to see it, but I've 'heard' that it was a hackneyed movie.
I can't see it being as good as the book. I think I'll wait for the rental.
I saw it as a preview.... it may vary differently since it was a test screen. It was entertaining...I'd even watch it again to see what was cut out from the screening I saw, which means it wasn't a complete waste of time.
Ive read the book a few times. Very entertaining. Im not sure this movie is looking too good though... Ill probably see it at some point because I have read the book, but it isnt high on my to-do list.
I went to it last night. Sat through about 20 minutes of it, got disgusted with how bad it was and got a refund. I wasn't really in the mood to see one of my favourite books get butchered. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance but I guess it's too late now.
I might not really even be giving this enough of a chance. I haven't read the book or seen the movie, but the previews just don't do anything for me.
What sets this movie/book apart from any other time travel movie? |
Well, the book does time travel in a way where the the traveller is essentially broken down at the atomic level and transported through holes in space to other universes. Great read, and has a good adventure attatched.
I just saw this movie today. I thought it was wonderful.
And I love how Spoiler: the actor who played The Merovingian, Lambert Wilson, also played Lord Arnaut... with GOOFY hair... |
I thought the movie was average at best. I'd probably buy it on DVD.
I really enjoyed the book, but as usual with movies, the movie was lacking in many key areas that made the book so good. |
wow, i saw it the other night. they just killed anything that was good about the book. the entirety of the physics part of it, just thrown right out the window. utter shit. ugh.
Sounds like fun...I can't wait...
Read the book a while back and loved it. I particularly liked how some assumptions of the time period (knights were honorable and moved slowly in the heavy armor) weren't quite true. The movie missed out on a lot of that stuff. The battle was pretty cool though.
Wow, I hate the be the lone dissenter in a thread, but I hated this book. I'm not a big Crichton fan, but I've read a few and Andromeda Strain was one of the best reads ever.
I thought Timeline dealt poorly with some issues and was over detailed on others. I'm a big fan of the time travel genre but was bored by Timeline. I felt Crichton had little new to add . Maybe I'll have to give it a second read. I hope the movie is more enjoyable, but I doubt I'll be paying $10 to see it soon. |
I think I'm through with both seeing movies made from books and with reading Crichton. He has written some wonderful books, but I just can't read a lot of his work. And Hollywood screenwriters can suck my left nut.
I wish they'd send potential sci-fi movie scripts through Harlan Ellison for rewrite before agreeing to produce them. |
I read the book when it came out and watched the movie last night
Anyway, it's not that bad. I'd even go so far to say that I actually enjoyed it! Sure, the acting is horrible and the movie is too fast-paced for its own good... BUT it's a good popcorn flick. |
By the way, since you all seem to be such huge fans (notice the sarcasm) you can order your very own ACTION FIGURES! YAY!
