Bots Harvest Humans in Ballsy Terminator Salvation Trailer
Bots Harvest Humans in Ballsy Terminator Salvation Trailer

A new trailer for Terminator Salvation shows harvester robots capturing and warehousing humans to create more advanced Terminator models.

The intense clip, which looks like the one that premiered at WonderCon in San Francisco last weekend, establishes John Connor (played by Christian Bale) as the leader of the human resistance to Skynet's monstrous machines. It also introduces Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) as a confused half-man/half-machine hybrid, which means the Terminator sequel might be one long head trip on the meanings of trust and humanity.

The ominous music and oppressive look build a feeling of relentless horror that had director McG swinging for the fences as he introduced the trailer at WonderCon.

"The world has not seen any of this," McG said Saturday, describing the clip to fans during a Terminator Salvation panel at the comic book convention. "This is for you ... it's gonna knock your fuckin' balls up your ass."

After watching the trailer, what do you think? How is your anatomy faring?

ummmm after watching the screener.... I'm uncomfortable sitting down.

I hope that Christian Bale can redeem the lost franchise after the T3 crapfest.

Ooooo.... I like robots. I like Batman. This should be good.

I am interested in this new approach with the Terminator. I wonder how they are going to pull it off.

Stare At The Sun 03-04-2009 10:27 PM

I can't fucking wait.

Bale is an amazing actor. Should pull it off well.

RetroGunslinger 03-04-2009 11:45 PM

Fuck Transformers.

terminator salvation? pffft!

THIS is terminator salvation!

I liked T3, and this sounds interesting as well. This will probably be in the "might watch someday as a rental" category along with both recent Batman films and Pulp Fiction (less likely on that last one though).

I saw the trailer for this before Watchmen and enjoyed it. Of course, Christian Bale makes me drool. Christian Bale wielding big guns...it's almost too much for me to bear.

Dude, both of the new batman movies are on DVD now. rent them already. you will regret not having seen them in the theater. Cant wait for Terminator. Looks like its gonna be so awesome.

biznatch 03-27-2009 09:21 AM

Yes, I'm glad I saw The Dark Night in Imax, and I plan to build something close to a theater in my future-maybe-one-day dreamhouse, with a big ass projector and speakers everywhere you look, just for these kinds of movies.
Plus, they're not all visuals, they have great music, sound, and story.

Dlish  at terminator the salvation!!!

You haven't seen The Dark Knight.... or Pulp Fiction...

...

... What are you, high?

little_tippler 04-09-2009 07:55 AM

oooh this looks pretty interesting. I agree that Christian Bale makes it better. Did you know Helena Bonham Carter is in it? She is bizarre. That should be interesting.

Plan9 04-09-2009 08:05 AM

Ugh, Terminator 3 was a total crapfest. Plot continuity? Who CARES!? Actors? College kids paid with pizza and beer.

T3 had a campy B-flick feel to it. It tried to be funny at times and a movie called TERMINATOR shouldn't be funny.

...

Despite having Christian "I'm white Jesus with fabulous cheekbones" Bale, the plot needs to be dark and moody to make it work.

SecretMethod70 04-09-2009 08:09 AM

Yeah, T3 was pretty sad.

I'm kind of OK with the general idea of T3: you can delay the future, but not change what is destined (though this brings up obvious spiritual implications which I'm not sure belong in the Terminator universe), but the execution wasn't good at all.

I am hopeful for Terminator: Salvation, and I fully admit part of that is because I worship Christian Bale (damn right he's Jesus, Crompsin!). Aside for that, there's great potential in a movie series about the war against the machines. It definitely needs to be dark and moody, and it seems we're going to get that.

Plan9 04-09-2009 08:11 AM

...and for the love of god... please no female terminators with self-inflating breasts. I wanted to cry.

SecretMethod70 04-09-2009 08:15 AM

Haha, yeah, that was horrendous.

Speaking of no concern for plot continuity and bad things in the Terminator universe, I don't care how good The Sarah Connor Chronicles may be (I've heard it's supposed to be good), it makes absolutely no sense within the context of the movies that have been made.

Plan9 04-09-2009 08:19 AM

For anybody that is as huge a Terminator nerd as I am:

Terminator Wiki

I spent like 3 hours on this one night. Ate it right up.

Some of the stuff "left out" of T3 was interesting.

It has also been confirmed that Terminator Salvation will feature both Kate Brewster and ties to The Sarah Connor Chronicles. What impact this will have on T3's continuity status is unknown.
That is sadly disturbing.

Plan9 04-09-2009 08:41 AM

I like to pretend that Kate Brewster will be mentioning in passing. Dead, shown only via crusty photograph. The T3 kids were uberannoying. It could have only been topped by the appearance of Tony Danza in Arnold's role of the T-800.

Cynthetiq 04-09-2009 08:47 AM

Tony Danza totally could have pulled it off, see what a leet driver he is?

Wrexify 04-09-2009 11:21 AM

If I see any trace of Shane Hurlbut in this movie, I'm going to fucking FREAK OUT. He's a nice guy though.

jimmy1s269 04-13-2009 07:39 PM

plot continuity is not a big concern for these guys from one movie to the next to the tv show to the next movie. so much changes in the time line of each entry that the future is in constant flux. they can do anything they want in the history of the future war with the machines and just say, well, this happened that we didnt show you and it led to this.

FuglyStick 04-13-2009 08:46 PM

Boner inducing

SCC has been confirmed to be a different continuity to T3, and I think it's highly unlikely to tie in with Terminator Salvation seeing as there's a fair chance it will be back for a 3rd season AFTER Salvation is released.

As far as I can tell there are now like 3 different Terminator timelines, branching after T2.

T1 -> T2 - The James Cameron arc. As far as Cameron is concerned the story ends here with the war averted and Skynet never coming into being.
T1 -> T2 ->T3->Salvation(although apparently much of T3 will be retconned or glossed over in Salvation)
T1 -> T2 -> SCC
