mailbox + spraypaint =
The flames on my mailbox were looking a little faded, so I busted out the spray paint and did a new design. I was feeling tropical.

oh that's so pretty... :)
(hand painted mailboxes sell for lots of money.... ;) you are just so talented |
I have mailbox envy...
|
Nice job! I'm jealous of the fact that you have a mailbox at all...I have a mail-condo, where I have only a slot in a large nameless corporation comglomerate of a mailbox.
Around the corner from my house. Hmm. Maybe I'll paint it anyways. :P Anyways, nice and clean (professional mailbox painting? lol). |
LOL.
it was just the other day i was reading the story about your mailman/lady and that was the first time i seen the flame design, this new one looks pretty flash as well... nice job Clavus! |

Thank you, one and all. All it takes is a couple of cans of spray paint, and some masking material and fredweena could have a custom flap...so to speak.

I'm going to have a crapload of decorating projects soon, and i'm a fan of spray-paint :D neat-o mailbox, btw. :) |
I use masking tape, paper, and/or frisket
http://www.misterart.com/grouppix/280x210/000/g998.jpg I cut out flower shapes from frisket and stuck them on the (white) mailbox. Then I painted blue paint over it*, allowed to to dry somewhat, then peeled off the frisket. Ta DA! White flowers on a blue mailbox. Then I sprayed a coat of clear over everything, just to smooth it out. Create flames with masking tape and paper (or a stencil). No need to screw around with cutting out patterns in frisket. *super top-secret step for SiN's eyes only - - - actually, after I stuck on the frisket flowers I painted a light coat of WHITE over them. Why? Because if I fucked up (and I always fuck up) and left some little places for the paint to seep under the frisket, those little holes would be filled by white paint. The white then dries and prevents to blue paint (applied next) from seeping in and wrecking the nice clean lines of my white flowers. |
I still can't believe your mailboxes over there actually look like that..:hmm:
Very cool design btw! |
Actually, most US Mailboxes are much larger. They are painted red, white & blue and are equipped with gasoline engines and drink-holders. Many have mechanized turrets with 50 calibre machine guns (very useful for blowing away endangered birds and illegal immigrants).
... OK, kidding. So what do YOUR mailboxes look like? |
Great design, clavus. Both of them, actually.
It's appealing in its simplicity. :) A friend just bought a spraygun for his vehicles. I think I'll get him to do my new 'box for me. :) I was thinking along the lines of a black base with green and blue flames. Basically, like yours up there. :) Don't you also use sprayguns or airguns, as well as rattle cans, clave? I thought I saw a thread of yours where you painted your cabinets, or something like that. |

(Alas, my anal landlord would kill me. He had a conniption when I brought in a 7' Christmas tree because I "might have scratched the floors!" Funny thing is, I did it to piss him off, not to celebrate Christmas. It has taken all of my self-restraint not to attack the outside of the pink building, my boring white walls, and that idiotic mailbox flap with my artistic tendencies.) |
Those are both great!
I'm sure the mailman appreciates a little diversity in his daily mailbox grind. |
For the mailboxes - Rattle rattle rattle! BTW, I did a black box w/ blue and green flames for my buddy (he's a Seahawks fan), and it turned out a lot better than mine.
All the responsible adults are going to shake their heads in dismay, but I let my sons (ages 5 and 2) do some of the painting. They aren't coordinated enough for the airbrush, but they can push the button on a can of paint. Some might think giving spray paint to a little tyke is a bad idea, but those kids see the mailbox every day and think "I did that." |
that's cool. Reminds me of Rossi's bike from mugello in 2001 (I think?).

Ours are... boring heh. Some of them look like this: http://www.bases.dk/Galleri/BASES%20Lampe/P1010068.JPG ..made of metal, with a lock and on a solid metal post. Vast majority are like this: http://www.sommerbutikken.no/images/...rod/lux-pk.jpg ..metal case, with a lock, and secured to the walls of our houses (preferably near the front door). None are made of wood, really. That's more a Norwegian thing ;) |
Those are so pretty Clavus!
We just have the little box, screwed to the wall beside our front door. |

You see, I at least avoided the custom flap and anal landlord jokes from fredweena's post.
And hell, there's nothing wrong with little boxes screwed to walls! ;) |
Nancy... If your box is locked how does the mailman get in it? Does he have a key for all the boxes in town or does he just have a master key?
|
Now you're gonna destroy it with a bat, and then give us pictures of that too, right?
