One of my first vector-based pieces. Made in Illustrator with a Wacom Intuos3.

WOW! i can't believe you have such an awesome tablet! lol i'm so jealous

nice vector work. Perhaps a little more cel shading would identify your light source a bit better? Still i think it's really great.

yum, I've got an intuos 2, does the job well
*envious*
heh

That's really good hu-man, look forward to seeing more from you

Thanks for the nice comments, all of you!
Perhaps if you would indulge me in the mighty world of cel-shading, i would be able to cel-shade it better?
I've cel-shaded in 3D Studio Max, but somehow I don't think that this involves anything remotely like 3D...
The only way of shading I can think of in Illustrator and with this image, would be gradients. But that would look like *bleep*. Right?
Or is it simply drawing some more vectors and changing their opacity values?

Just add abit more depth Hu-man, just like the shading you have on her pants, that's all he's talking about if I understand correctly :)

You're on the right track. Experiment with blending objects together. For example, if you create a solid black circle with a smaller white circle inside to the upper right, you can blend the two together and get a specular highlight. The same holds true for any shape you can think of creating. Adding layers of multiple blends together can produce some very complex textures. Good luck!

hi hu-man! :)

i haven't had time to much play with illustrator myself (hope to get back w/it next year!), but it looks like YOU're off to a good start!

her shoulder bag (purse) looks like it could use something.
being almost the same hue & shade of the sea, it has this negative image look right now. (to me anyway)

is she holding a pair of sandals? if so, some indication of straps might help the viewer to understand how she is holding those shoes...

keep on rocking the vectors & please post your progress! :)
