New Tattoo Designs

Here's a few new designs I've been working on.

I'm going to try to use these (in addition to a bunch more) to get an apprenticeship as a tattoo artist. Also, the winged heart is probably going to be my next tattoo, in memory of my grandmother who just passed away.

Just wanted to get y'all's opinions!

The artwork looks great! I wish I could do that well. I personally wouldnt get tatted with any designs like that but if you do do the heart, that will look tight! Me, I am more of the skulll and crossbones kind of guy.

WarWagon 03-30-2004 06:36 PM

I like the first one, definitely different.

MadHatder 03-30-2004 06:46 PM

WOw, great work. I love the Superman one!

majik_6 03-31-2004 05:58 PM

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

I'm planning on talking with my tattoo artist on the 3rd to price out the heart, get my arm finished, and get his advice on my art.

MoNoXiDe_XXX 03-31-2004 09:36 PM

that fuckin razor is sweet ass

yakimushi 03-31-2004 10:45 PM

I really dig the fish, very nice.

Why does it say "cliche" on the razor?

qtpye4u84 03-31-2004 11:18 PM

I Like the bottle name tag thingy thats cool

majik_6 04-01-2004 12:12 AM

Monoxide: I'm a big fan of the razor as well. It's a preliminary sketch for a piece I'm gonna do/get done on my thigh.

yakimushi: I also like the little koi...seems almost "alive" :)...and the razor says cliche, because everything that I thought to write on there was stupid and trite (therefore I decided to be ironic and write "cliche")

qtpye4u84: Thanks. I draw some influences from the tag/graffiti culture, so I decided to combine that influence with old-school tattoo imagery.

somehow that seems really appealing to me!

Dizzet 04-05-2004 04:22 AM

Hey thats some nice tatoos.. What do you use to draw them? Markers or what

animosity 04-05-2004 09:33 AM

im not into tats... but i really like the razor(cliche, nice touch) and super man... well who wouldnt like that.

majik_6 04-06-2004 07:10 AM

animosity: thanks for the kind words

Dizzet: I thought I'd typed up a response to your question yesterday, but apparently I didn't hit respond: the outlines are a brushtip pen with India ink, the thin lines are an 01 Micron pen, and the color is Prismacolor pencils.

Nancy: I'm glad you like it! :)

Dizzet 04-07-2004 03:51 AM

Thx and i love the tats... Hey are you posting more tats because im looking for a very special design or insperation to a tatoo...

majik_6 04-07-2004 05:59 AM

I've got a few more that I haven't posted yet, and I'm constantly drawing them up, so there will be more to come in the next couple of days.

If there's something specific you'd like me to try, let me know and I'd be glad to do a sketch for you. I can't draw everything, but I can sure as hell try. ;)

Dizzet 04-08-2004 07:32 AM

Well I Where Thinking about a real Mean Ant...
If you would try making that i would be very glad...

majik_6 04-08-2004 08:52 AM

I'll see what I can do about that after class today! :)

jujueye 04-08-2004 08:19 PM

I really like the fish. If you're getting a tat, that particular design would be better as you age and not look like you're 85 and still trying to play Superman!

majik_6 04-14-2004 06:10 PM

I fully agree, jujueye.

Few of these are actually designs that I intend to get...most are just things I'm planning on showing tattooists when I try for an apprenticeship.

I've had that discussion (regarding the Superman thing) with my best friend, since he got a Superman symbol when he was 16, and hadn't exactly thought it out beforehand. But, I think that in his case, it perfectly matches his personality! :)

I haven't gotten a chance to work on the ant much, Dizzet, cause I'm out of pens (they all broke or went dry), but I'm going to be hopefully picking up new ones tomorrow, and I should be able to get some sketches done by the end of the weekend.

Dizzet 04-14-2004 10:41 PM

Just take good time with the ant its not one i need right now so... anyway thanks that you want to work with it..

matteo101 04-15-2004 12:49 PM

I love the picture of the winged bottle spraying out whatever.... What does it mean????

majik_6 04-16-2004 08:40 AM

matteo101: To be honest it doesn't have a specific meaning, it's just a twist on the traditional tattoo-style "banner", with the banner being fresh paint (note the "drip" at the end of the left side) being sprayed by an angellic can of spray paint.

No real meaning, I guess...just a mixture of some of my influences. Plus, I'm sure that somewhere along the line, I saw a similar design or something. :)

matteo101 04-16-2004 10:51 AM

Thats awesome, it would be cool to have a word on the banner. I would actually like to have that tattoo. Maybe if im ever in the OH area....

majik_6 04-21-2004 12:39 PM

Feel free to take any of these designs you want...all I ever ask, is that if someone were to get an image I drew tattooed on them, is that they send me a picture. :)

Yeah, there's supposed to be a word, but I couldn't think of anything, so I just left it blank. Also, it's stuff I'm submitting to local tattoo parlors to try to get a job, so I'm keeping most of the designs general or generic (by not lettering them).

minyn 04-22-2004 10:01 AM

theyre all amazing, love the superman one.

majik_6 04-22-2004 06:00 PM

minyn: thanks for the kind words! :)

Dizzet: I've got a sketch of an angry ant done...I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but shoot me a PM and we can discuss it, and work on more designs.

telekinetic 04-28-2004 12:16 AM

Post it up! I wanna see the angry Ant, too! :)

*pictures insect going GRRRR*

jahmdir 05-03-2004 12:49 AM

These are sweet... the Superman one expecially... although I for one don't like tatoos, the artwork is outstanding

clavus 05-03-2004 04:55 PM

cool fish!

majik_6 05-04-2004 02:01 PM

twistedmosaic: I've got the ant done, and if it's cool with Dizzet, I'll post it here...if not, I'll be sure to get some other designs up soon (I've got several saved up).

jahmdir: thanks for the kind words! I was never much into tattoos until I was about 14 or so, and ever since I've been obsessed with them.

clavus: Thanks! I'm kinda partial to that fish as well. :) I like your work that you've posted on here, so your comments mean a lot!

And on another note: hopefully I'll have a new thread up by tonight with all my new designs I've done lately.

MaGlC_MaN 05-05-2004 05:21 PM

those are sweet man

majik_6 05-06-2004 09:11 AM

Thanks! :)

MerKon4 05-31-2004 08:09 PM

Tattoo art completely different from mainstream art. You would not usually see that on a musuem wall, but when on someones body, its amazing. The Razor is very nice, A+. My last tat was with a samurai sword with the kanji lettering for Death Before Dishonor. The blade was done in a tattooing chrome (I know you know what I mean). Its cool. I look forward to seeing what else you make.

majik_6 06-02-2004 11:29 AM

MerKon4: Thanks for the kind words. I totally understand what you mean about the difference between art meant for the traditional gallery space, and that which is meant for tattooing. However, it's nice to finally see some tattoo art making its way into the mainstream (check out Juxtapoz magazine for some good examples).

And yeah, I know exactly what you mean about the tattoo chrome, I do believe. I've got a chrome tribal piece on my arm, and it's actually just a combination of blue, white, brown, and black carefully drawn/shaded to look like the reflections of chrome (if you check out the blade of the razor, the signature on the fish, and the superman symbol you'll see that I use a lot of the chrome technique in my work).

matteo101 06-25-2004 09:23 AM

I was just wondering if there is a meaning behind the koi fish. I see it tattoo'd on many people, and I have always been curious on what the meaning or representation of it is? if any

majik_6 06-26-2004 09:23 AM

I'm not totally sure of the meaning, but I know it does have some. There have been a few different theories that I've heard. The only one I remember was something about a man's sexual power (since the koi swims upstream)...but I dunno if that's true.

If I can find some additional info on it, I'll let you know.

The reason I drew it is just cause I like the look of it, and I felt I needed to learn that before I start my tattoo apprenticeship.

ARTelevision 06-26-2004 12:22 PM

damn good flash...

your sense of volume and color is as good as it gets.

best of luck with your skills!

Nice work. Please, please though, would you explain to me why so many people find tatooing so attractive. Frankly, I think the human body is just the most amazing miracle, and I can't see how tatooing embellishes it. I'm confused, please enlighten me.

majik_6 06-26-2004 01:48 PM

ART: thanks for the kind words! It's always nice to get advice from someone as qualified as yourself.

flyman: Thanks! Hopefully I can get some new designs up tonight.

Lewis: Thanks for the compliment. As for why, there's as many reasons for getting tattooed as there are tattoos. Some people simply do it for aesthetics, to fit into a group or subculture, to express a specific spirituality, or to better align the self they invision with the image they see in the mirror. For me, the tattoo and body modification scene really unites my love for art, music, and self-expression in a way that few other things can. I find that tattooing appeals to me in almost every way. The stereotypical tattoo "scene" is truly something that fits with my personal ideals and interests.
