Cool, but what do you mean by "100% mesh"?

I mean that I used nothing but the Gradient Mesh tool. Basically it allows for tonal gradiation from intersection to intersection. Think of it as a collection of blended gradients.

This is my imagine in Outline mode (Ctrl+Y). It shows the mesh that I had to create to make it. Most of those intersect points within the mesh have been individually color sampled to create one whole image.

This is a talent I never understood (but respect). At some point, doesn't it become easier to just use POV ray and render it? Just as much work, very similar results.

What is this POV Ray? If it's a program that does the tracing and rendering automatically, then yes it would be easier. However, with Mesh, you are in 100% control 100% of the time. I like that.

Im not sure if this is exactly what he means, but I think he is referring to using DA /3d software opposed to 2d vector (or not using illustrator 3d plugins). I could be wrong.

Cool piece!!

I have trouble with that tool. Other than cylindrical, conical, and other basic shapes its difficult for me to get the capabilities out of it to produce the true dimensions Ive seen others be able to accomplish with it.

I'm going to have to read up on that tool. I played around with it on one of my bike drawings and I can't get it to use a colored gradient yet, but it'd sure beat using the very limited angle degree settings.

That is fuckin' outstanding.

I love the hell out of Illustrator, but the gradient mesh has always eluded me. You've obviously mastered it!

1) Awesome art. I loves me some photoshop, but I have never been able to get the hang of illustrator.

2) Vector Martini would make a great name for a Bond villain.
