I'm currently working on an invitation for my brother. It's a work in progress though - I haven't even shown it to him yet ...

Notice the number?
Knowing what it implies to turn 30 in Denmark leaves me wondering; my brother is either insane or brave to invite 40 people freely

The design is very nice, but the 3 doesn't stand out well enough... gets kind of lost. I like the use of negative space with it, but it's almost too obscure.

Agreed. I thought it was an 8 at first. Could the numbers be moved to the left just a little bit? It has a nice retro look to it, though. I'm a fan of clean lines and use of space.

Wonderful clean lines. Maybe darken the background to a light tan, and keep the "3" white??

Thanks for the comments, people. Like I said, it's a work in progress - I'm well aware that the "3" doesn't stand out like it should and I'm planning on fixing that. But first I need my brother to approve of the retro theme before I continue working on it

for what it's worth, i saw the 30 right away.

but it certainly isn't the strongest visual element.

if you want strength in the number 30, go ahead and bring it out some.

if you want to obscure it, like one who's turning 30 might want to,
i think you're on the right track.

you might want to "hide" little #30s all over.

I like the new invitation, but you may want to use spell check on the second page. I can't read a damn word of it...
