Need Advice

Basically I am wondering if I should see my doctor or not?

Problem: Late periods.

Ever since I started as a teenager I missed one then and was late by a few days 2 or 3 times. My cycle normally runs every 30-34 days. Sometimes a little sooner. I went on birth control a over a year ago, stayed on it for several months and have been off of it for almost a year now. I didn't have any problems until recently. Two months ago I was a little over a week late on my period, I did start but the day before I did I was looking at pregnancy tests. (side note: we use condoms every time and stop if it even feels like it is slipping or breaking) Then last month I was a little over two weeks late, terrified I was pregnany, had cramps the whole week before, took a pregnancy test, it was negative and started the next day. Usually I only have bad cramps the day before, it's how I know I am going to start, and the first few days. This month it's been two weeks again, bad cramps off and on through out the last few days, and I am probably going to buy a pregnancy test tonight just to make myself feel better. I am 95% positive I am not pregnant but I know it will ease a bit of my worry to know that isn't the case. Whether it is positive or negative I feel like I should still visit my doctor.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with me? Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Any tips for things I could do or try?

Oh and I've been wanting to go back on the ring but was waiting for insurance to go through. Now that I getting it, I am waiting for a period so I can use it. Should I consult my doctor about this first as well? That's my other problem, I don't have my insurance card yet but I do have my prescription card. Does it still work and can I use it to see my doctor? Should I consult my doctor about this first as well?

I keep thinking of things to add: my nipples have been extremely tender and even hurt if touched or played with, this has caused me to not have any sexual contact with my fiance even though the desire is there. Although until I figure out what is wrong I probably shouldn't be having sex.

Irregular periods after being off of hormonal birth control for a year are not uncommon--the same thing happened to me, which is one of the reasons I went back on the bc (well that and I actually started having regular sex, woo!). Not stressing out is probably the most helpful thing in regulating one's cycle--stress is a major interferer.

You should visit your doctor for an annual exam if you haven't lately and you should also go for a birth control consultation. Otherwise I really wouldn't worry...cycles are fickle, fickle things.

Another nod to the stress - the more you think about your cycle, especially if you're stressing over it, your body is going to react. If you feel more comfortable when on BC, in all honesty you might want to hold off on the sex to regain more regularity in your periods if the stress is what's throwing them off. If you're not having sex, you're not going to get pregnant. You take a risk every time, even if BC does reduce the odds dramatically.

I am more comfortable on BC and I know most of it is the stress, but it's hard to relax. Especially when you keep having aches that remind you of it.

By the way, amokie, I love your avatar, I've read the first book, The Wayfarer Redemption, and can't find the second!

I've always been very irregular, anywhere from 24-36 days. It isn't really a problem except for a pair of ruined panties once in a while.

You may not need your insurance card to get services. If your coverage is active, it's possible all they'll need is the name of your insurance company, your name and SS number. Call the receptionist and explain; they can probably work something out for you until you get your card.

okay so I went and bought a test thinking it would help relieve stress even though I knew it was going to be negative, I think I just needed that to reassure my subconscience. Anyway, bought one on Tuesday, didn't use it right away, started Wed. Much relief and going back on BC now. Thanks for all your advice it helped a lot.

wait so if you think about your CYCLE or if you stressed, your body reacts and your period wont come?

tara, stress, diet, activity can all change the timing and duration of your period
