stupid lipstick question
I don't wear makeup often, but I'm going to a formal event this weekend and want my lipstick to stay on the whole time. I already have a good color I like, so I don't want to go shelling out a bunch of money for a new shade of the "long-wearing" lipstick that makes your lips feel all dried out. Where can I find the stuff that beauty salons paint on your lips after they put on lipstick that makes it stay on forever? What's it called? I looked at Sally Beauty Supply and at the drug store but couldn't find anything.

Revlon Color Stay (I think that's the name) is a lipstick that is sold in a set - it's got the color, then the top coat that you put on over it that makes your lips all shiney... I've used it and it was good for a few hours, it didn't get lipstick on the glasses, but it didn't also hold up real well thru dinner.

I have no clue. I actually didn't know they had stuff like that. Perhaps you could call a few salons. They often sell a lot of products that they themselves use in the salon so might even have the stuff on hand. I have found thta Covergirl's long lasting lipstick, I forget the name, really does dry out my lips. I found that if you use a non-petrolium based lipgloss over it instead of the gloss that they sell with it that it does last just about as long and doesn't dry out my lips as much. I just recently stumbled across the Revlon Colorstay Lipshine in our Dollar store. It lasts longer than regular lipstick, not quite as long as CG's and doesn't dry out my lips at all really. Especially if I still use a non-petrolium based lipgloss.

I only use Clinique, Black Lily -- "Different Lipstick"
It doesn't stay on like glue, but I don't mind re-applying it in the stroom. ;) Seriously though, if you're ever at the Clinique counter, try it out. :D Sorry I was absolutely no help. |
I know what you're talking about...I got some at Sephora once called something like lipstick sealant or something similar. You might want to call local beauty supply stores asking for a product like that.
One other thing, you can try "staining" your lips with the lip color. Put a light coat of the lipstick on your lips and kind of pat it in with your finger, reapply to get to the desired shade. When I do this, I put chapstick over it so my lips dont feel dry; lipgloss tends to make it fade faster. Good luck! |
|
I always find a lip liner that's around the same shade. Put on chap stick first, line lips with lip liner, fill in lips with lip liner, and then apply lipstick. Unfortunately, reapplication has to happen. That's what sucks about being a woman.

Putting some powder/foundation on your lips and rubbing it in before applying the lipstick will also help for longevity of the base coat. Between that a a top sealant, you should be good to go.

i had no idea putting lipstick on could be such a process...*grabs her shiny pink gloss and runs*

I don't really like lipstick, either - feels goopy. But this was a swing dance performance at a fundraiser and we needed to look vintage, so I needed bright red lips. I got some lipstick sealant from Sephora and I was pretty disappointed. I don't know if I did it wrong or if I just have flaky lips, but I still needed to reapply lipstick three times, and I had to scrub my lips to get the remnants of the sealant off. So, chalk it up to experience, I guess.
The dance was fun, flaky lips or no :) We taught about 20 people to jitterbug, did a bunch of Lindy and Charleston exhibition dances, and gave away all of our swing dance society cards that we brought with the dates of our dances on them. |
Awwww, I'm sorry that it didn't work for you lurkette...I'm glad you had fun though!!!

For everyone who hates lipstick, please, please try "Different Lipstick" by Clinque.
Seriously! It's.... Well, it's different. :D |
