The Hair Down There

Alrighty, Since I'm an open minded gal <see endurance post> I'd like to know how you all feel about the hair down there. That's right, the pubic patch.

Currently mine is trimmed to fit into a thong, but I've been considering losing it ALL. Any Suggestions? OH and just to make it fun I've added a POLL.

BTW, My B.F. claims to have SHAVED ALL of his Pubic Hair ONCE and NEVER will again. Something about it itching like hell and with all the folds of skin and overlaping parts I can imagine it was worse than if a girl shaved. I mean he shaved it ALL... sack, shaft, EVERYTHING... ouch. Anywho I'm still thinking about it and want to hear some opinions.

snowy 04-23-2003 12:10 AM

I used to shave it all, because that's what my boyfriend at the time liked. But I prefer it more au naturel, trimmed up for a thong or bathing suit. A more recent bf preferred it this way, so I plan on sticking with it. I generally prefer to shave from my perineum (the spot between your v. and a.) to my clitoris on my vulva, mostly so that hair doesn't get pulled into my vagina during sex and it also feels nicer :) I'd say experiment with different ways of shaving, and always use a new razor! :)

sierra2774 04-23-2003 04:00 AM

I shave it all on occasion. I like it that way but lately it has been coming back and I think it still looks ok. Might leave it like that for awhile.

*Nikki* 04-23-2003 05:47 AM

Sometimes completely shaved......sometimes just a little left.

Whatever suits my mood and my man.

Xapphire 04-23-2003 05:48 AM

Completely shaved, I actually used Nair once, just because I wanted it to be super smooth without having to wait a day for the puffiness to go down, doesn't work very well, and you're not supposed to do it if you read the bottle (which I did, and ignored *smirks*)

Jaiddin shaves his pubic hair for me, shaft and balls too, he just has a small patch around the base. We have a deal that if I'm going to be silky smooth, he is the same for me too. It just feels amazing all slick with sex too. The more you shave, the more you get used to it, and the more often you do it (every couple days here) the less there is to itch because you're getting rid of the new growth as soon as it shows up. It's when you let it grow back that the itching like hell shows up.

If you decide to lose it all, first time, go with the direction your hair grows. Then when it starts to grow back in, go crosswise, not directly against... and then after a few times of that, you can start to go against the grain, BUT pull the skin tight! It makes it a much smoother shave and gives you less chance of nicks and ingrown hairs, and yes, use a new razor everytime. Don't use the one you've been shaving your legs and armpits with. Get a fresh one, it makes life so much easier and less painful.

Missy 04-23-2003 11:30 AM

It depends on if I'm planning on being with someone anytime soon :) I often shave it all but have been known to let a little grow in various shapes :) It all depends on what my lover wants and how I feel. I also love seeing a guys reaction when he discovers it is completely bare for the first time :)

CrazyDiamond 04-23-2003 06:23 PM

I started shaving it all when I swam almost every day, and though I don't have the time to swim much anymore, I prefer staying smooth. Starts driving me crazy when it grows back in!

~springrain 04-24-2003 07:01 AM

I prefer to keep it trim... but also natural. I have issue with the completely shaven look... too much of a "little girl" connotation for me...
all in all... i prefer natural all around... we women spend so much time trying to change what is natural and already beautiful about our body's...

onodrim 04-24-2003 09:06 AM

Completely shaved. I thought i'd hate it before I tried it, but now that I do, its nice :) Some weeks I get lazy and let it grow in a bit and just trim it, but usually its all gone.

Minx 04-24-2003 11:32 AM

Totally bare and loving it :)! I think I would have kept the thong style happening unless it was suggested to me by a friend of mine to go bare but I'm glad I went for it. The only thing is the upkeep! Sheesh! But holy cow I don't know about the rest of you ladies but the first few days it was extra sensitive...ummm in a good way :)
I would totally recommend it.

Atropos4 04-24-2003 11:46 AM

I go back and forth from natural to partial shave (if you know what i mean) for sanitary typed reasons...alpha phi prefers all natural...right now ..partial shave....because of my surgery.....I wish I would have shaved it all before the surgery though....when i looked at both the bandages on of them was taped over half of my pubes!!!!! I freaked..The only thing I could think of was how bad it hurts when you pull a bandaid off your arm hair..luckily the glue softened when I finally was allowed to shower and it came off with very little pain....Thank GOD!!!!

Plummie 04-24-2003 12:28 PM

I am completely shaven and I love it! :D If you go this route, you'll need to shave it everyday or every other day to keep irritation down.

Anybody ever tried the brazilian wax? I'm too scared! *lol*

cheerios 04-24-2003 04:37 PM

Atropos: you should sue for un-necessary trauma! ;) that's cruel! I was bald as can be, but left a bit up top last time, we'll see how that turns out.

and the effort, uf what a pain in the ass!

Shiloh 04-25-2003 11:53 AM

I have it waxed. I keep a small triangle. Shaving just never agreed with me and the waxing sure lasts longer.

SiN 04-25-2003 01:55 PM

shaved bare. :)

..and so is my bf. ;)

Somenosuke 04-25-2003 08:09 PM

Natural. Shaved once. It blew hardcore. Plus, I was more sensitive, and when my panties rubbed me, I would just get totally aroused, and I was walking around like that constantly. Not worth that trouble for me.

galaxygirl 04-26-2003 08:42 AM

The first time I decided to 'clean up' I chose a coldwax treatment because I was just doing my lips and was terrified of shaving them. Well, my bathroom is chilly and my hands were cold, so I didn't warm the wax enough. I ended up gluing myself together!

Now I shave, lol.

darksparkles 04-26-2003 10:25 AM

i'm completely shaved, and i like it ... it's cleaner to me [assuming i take care of it so it doesn't get all bumpy], it's easier for my boyfriend to navigate, and when that time of month comes around it's DEFINITELY a lot easier. plus i don't have to worry about it coming out of panties or swimsuits, ever.

Angel 04-27-2003 11:26 AM

Trimmed and shaved, sometimes in a strip, sometimes a triangle, sometimes a heart...just depends on my mood.

BlueBongo 04-27-2003 10:58 PM

I just shave. I was waxed a long time ago... was thinking about doing it again soon. I think I really want to wait until I drop the lbs and then go for it. I am hoping to drop a bit and then get into taking much better care of myself... in my own special ways :)

awanderingsoul 05-09-2003 09:04 PM

It's a landing strip for me; nice and clean.

blueskies 05-11-2003 01:58 PM

I am closely trimmed most of the time or I shave it all every now and then. My husband stays shaved ... smooth as a baby! And I'll never go down on anyone any other way. Hair is GROSS in that area ... ick. I don't go for the flavor savers ... hehe

daydream 07-25-2006 11:38 AM

I was thinking about getting a Brazilian wax... but i'm too scared to do it. Has anyone ever gotten one before? Can you give me some advice on the subject?

daydream 07-25-2006 11:51 AM

Brazilian wax

I was wondering if any of you have ever gotten a Brazilian wax before. I have gotten my bikini line waxed, but never a Brazilian. Basically I'm scared to go for it, but I want to because I know my bf would like it and I'm also curious to see what it would be like to be all nice and smooth down there.

Can anyone give me advice on the topic? I'm also not sure where I would go to get it done... it's such a personal thing I think I would be embarrassed.

Any advice or experiences you could share with me would be great. Thank you!

pornclerk 07-25-2006 01:13 PM

Although I have never had it done, I have heard not so good things about it. Apparently you can't have sex for about 3 days after because of the pain.
I personally shave. At first when I did it it was pretty itchy, but if you buy some bikini zone cream it's not so bad. I found that the itching went away after I did it so many times. Just be sure to buy a good razor!

Lady Sage 07-25-2006 06:05 PM

I had a bad experience waxing... it didnt work... tried 2 kinds after letting it grow long enough TO wax.

Back to shaving bald! No hair to hold sweat, feels smooth and sex is so much more enjoyable! (So is oral without having the guy have to pause to pick out the nasty pubic hair dental floss) *BARF*

I like my dear sweet future husband bald too *grin*

Gilda 07-25-2006 10:56 PM

If you check out my profile picture, you can see all the hair on my body. I get everything that I haven't had lasered off waxed every five weeks. The Brazilian is painful the first couple of times, but gets easier after that, and it's much more comfortable on regrowth than shaving because you're getting new, immature hairs rather than mature hairs cut through the middle. The hair that grows back is softer and finer.

The results do make sex much more pleasurable when recieving oral, and much more accessible when giving, at least for Grace and me.

Gilda

absence_of_color 07-25-2006 11:48 PM

Clean cut is the way for me. I dont like to keep it shaved completely, but pretty damn near close.

Nancy 07-27-2006 04:44 AM

I don't like having a huge amount of pubic hair but I don't want to lose all of it either so I'm completely shaved, except for a cute little triangle.

Nancy 07-27-2006 04:45 AM

No, never and I don't plan too either. How about getting it lasered off instead?

little_tippler 07-27-2006 04:52 AM

Errr...haven't there been loads of threads on this? Just saying.

I have had one before and get it done once in a while. It's pretty painful but worth it completely. I was not in any pain after doing it at all, just during. Don't be scared, it's not that bad.

Just don't wax the whole thing...the part where your mons meets the top of your labia....that spot....is excruciating (I think it's because it's close to the clit). I only did that the first time, and I was warned by the lady who did it - are you sure? And I said yes but I regretted that.

Otherwise, go for it! It looks great and you'll feel sexier, really.

Sultana 07-27-2006 08:08 AM

I've done it for years, it hurts much at first but after time you get used to it. The pain lasts only for a few seconds (if you go to a good waxer--this is imperative!). I certainly did not have to wait to have sex, lol! :))

The results are great! Love it!

Doing the laser hair removal now, because the maintenance costs keep going up, I was tired of the regrowth period, always trying to schedule appointments for special times like before vacation and stuff was just a pain (I had a great gal, and she was real popular and real busy).

BTW, Lasers hurt way more than waxing, and it is a long process--it's not like one treatment and you're good forever. I've had three so far, I think (started with underarms, and I love those results too). Also, you dont get as much removed as with wax.

I'd rec. trying the Brazilian.

Also, use the thread search function for this forum. If it's working now, you'll get a lot of older input.

I think it improves everything, sexually! WooHoo!

ngdawg 07-27-2006 09:02 PM

I leave nothing behind. I started shaving almost 5 years ago after it was suggested by several friends to try it and now I can't stand anything there at all. Seeing hair on others now looks really weird to me. But I'll always shave (Mach3 is great)-the idea of ripping that hair out via wax makes me shudder.

mixedmedia 07-28-2006 04:34 AM

I prefer au naturel with a nice depilatory trim around the edges. I have shaved completely in the past (for my ex) and hated it. I also agree with a previous poster who was off-put by the little girl connotations of a shaved pussy on a woman. No offense to anyone that prefers it, but on me personally, it just feels a little creepy. Plus I had many more of episodes of vaginosis and yeast infections while I was shaving.

As far as men's hair goes, please don't touch a hair for me! I LOVE men's body hair. All over, anywhere. Love it, love it, LOVE IT! (...well, perhaps I could do without that ear hair :p ).

abaya 07-28-2006 05:31 AM

Happy trimmer here... have tried shaving and at-home waxing, and even sugaring via a recipe found on TFP :) , but in the end I still just like to have my normal hair growth down there. I feel more womanly with a normal patch (though I keep it trimmed as low as I can go, usually)... and FAR less itchy than I did with any other methods. So trimming with scissors it is... no more, no less. :D

Btw, I swear I've posted on this topic at least twice before... deja vu??

I was blessed with a fairly light load of pubes to start with. I'm just not very hairy down there. My pubic hair is soft, and red, and there's not much of it anyway. My ex husband told me a long time ago that I should never shave because red pubic hair in the sunlight is one of the most beautiful things in the world. I have shaved and trimmed from time to time, but since I have so little to start with, it's just not worth the trouble. Like some other posters, I too am creeped out by the little girl look, and also by the guys that like it. I'm already small. I don't want to try and look like a ten-year-old.
Like abaya, I love men's hairy chests and even backs (some guys.) But I absolutely hate the "two day growth" beard that some find so attractive. To me it feels like coarse sandpaper. Especially when receiving oral. I hate that.

I keep myself all natural. I have never shaved or trimmed down there. I don't even shave around the edges (when I go swimming I wear board shorts). Too much effort, and I am concerned about getting nicks. I might consider trimming at most. Also, I tend to look younger than my age (I'm 20, but look about 17/18) and don't want the pre-pubescent look.

mmmmm, soft red pubes.....sounds pretty. Mine is soft, too, and light brown....and straight! I can comb it, lol.

I agree with you to some extent on the two day growth look. I don't prefer the way it looks. It doesn't bother me too much during sex, but in my opinion, a man should either shave completely or have a beard. Otherwise it is just too affected.

Also, I just wanted to note, that because I spend a lot of time looking for good nude photography on the internet (I am an amateur photographer and would like to do nudes one day), that I love that little surprise I get when I open up a thumbnail and it's a woman with a full, hairy woman's pussy. You see so little of that in photography of women these days, and it has become almost an erotic novelty. I just prefer the way it looks, though. It's sexy....

raeanna74 08-01-2006 08:18 AM

Even when I didn't shave I HAD to trim down there. I literally had to comb it out and give myself a haircut - ew gross. I may have fine, straight blonde hair on my head but down there I have an afro. It's thick, corse and black down below and I hate it. Especially during my period (I can't use tampons all the time.) and it's nasty. I know that's probably more information than anyone wanted to know but it's the biggest reason that I shave.

I started shaving about 8 years ago. To begin with I only shaved off and on and I quit shaving while I was pregnant. No big messes to clean up down there then. I still trimmed then though. Then about a year after my daughter was born I started shaving again. There are times I'll let it go but I never let it get beyond 1/4" or so long. The last time I let it go beyond that I realized how much more itchy I was when it was longer. It dawned on me how much I itched before. Probably because it was so corse and curly.

Hubby shaves too. I like body hair, especially love his chest 'fur' since it's not real thick but feels nice. When he started shaving down below though I really enjoyed the sensation it gave. When we're both shaved clean and have sex the sensations are highened and it feels better.

I've found that Caress body wash works better than shaving cream down there. Some shaving cream sortof burns.
I tried waxing - NO WAY.
I tried Nair - It's messy, not completely effective, irritates, and the time spent isn't worth it.

I just started using depilatory cream for the bikini area about four months ago, not sure which brand I have, but I get really good results from it. I used to shave there but had to stop when I developed folliculitis from it (anyone developed that charming little affliction?).

Someone previously mentioned BikiniZone for irritation from hair removal, and that little tube of goo is definitely worth the money. It works great.

Will have to look for that. Might be better than the greasy antibiotic ointment. My Dr told me that her dermatologist recommended antibiotic ointment for razor burn and to prevent folliculitis. She said to apply it wherever I shaved just after I shaved. It does help a lot.

Janey 08-03-2006 12:47 PM

I tried to trim a heart shape once. But it itched like hell, and I didn't have much to work with. I never shave now. there's just not enough to worry about.

Demeter 08-04-2006 06:38 AM

My public hair is thin, fine, and soft, and straight. I can't shave it into shapes, there's not enough of it to look like anything, it ends up looking strange.
I keep it trimmed.
I shave it on occasion, but not all the time, I have sensitive skin, and the itch and irritation isn't worth the hassle.

fyrehair 08-04-2006 08:10 AM

I started shaving b/c my ex suggested it (it sounded a bit weird to me at the time! lol). Now, I shave every couple of days. I like the bare feeling, although the regrowth ain't so great. My current bf shaves also. I love that feeling when we're both shaved....mmmmmmmm!

daydream 08-09-2006 07:38 PM

Thanks for the advice girls, if this thread has been created before I am sorry to repeat it. I went to get waxed the other day... I was too afraid to get the Brazillian so I just went with the normal bikini wax. I figured I would start with that... maybe one day I will try it. But for now I'm gonna stick with that.

Sage 08-10-2006 07:45 AM

There's something about having a brazillian and having sex that make it so... oh... well it's like the difference between taking a tarp and running water on it and a real brand name slip-n-slide. If you like juicy sex, brazillian is the way to go. Plus, it's a huge bonus to your man if he's going down on you- it makes everything really fresh and easy to lick and pleasant to have his face next to. The only thing about a brazillian that I have found to be a little annoying is all your natural vagina juice doesn't get soaked into your pubic hair anymore, so you're a little more moist throughout the day- easily solved by either wiping more thoroughly when you go to the bathroom or wearing cotton undies.

amonkie 08-10-2006 03:57 PM

It will be easier to find all the information about this by merging the other Brazlian thread into this one - pubic hair isn't something that just popped up in the last few weeks :)

Yeah, I have thick hair down there too, which probably explains why I've had that dreaded feminine itch!

Usually I go natural, because I just don't have the want or need to clean up down there. But before putting on a swimsuit I usually shave. I've waxed my bikini line area once before with an at-home waxing kit, and I loved the results! Shaving made me itchy and irritated, but waxing didn't. And the results lasted way longer.

Anyone ever have pubic hair dyed? I heard there are special pubic hair artists who shape the hair into something and then dye it accordingly. For instance, I think the strawberry look is the most popular choice. ;) I want to try that some day, but heard it's expenive.

nikkiana 08-20-2006 07:55 AM

I can honestly be anywhere from totally natural to shaved. I strongly prefer shaved, but razors are expensive and I am lazy.

Sugarmouse 08-20-2006 09:48 AM

I shave..sometimes leave a little tuft to remind me i have pubes:lol:
ionce caught an infection from shaving..talk about painful!!!!! one of those 'ah itll never happen to me'shaving infections!

I never shaved down there, I used depilatory creams around the edges when I was younger. I have been getting a Brazilian wax, or sometimes a Playboy for the last 14 years. And I LOVE IT!!!!!! besides the benefit of good sex, I also now have almost no hair. Another plus is it takes longer to grow back. BUT you MUST have a good waxer!!!!!

I totally agree with you about the lack of “absorbency” without the hair being around.

qtpye4u84 09-08-2006 08:10 PM

I love how the playboy girls look with the little landing strip down the middle so much that I had to copy them!!! Now I keep it that way all the time but some times when I'm bored I try to make shapes or sometimes I even shave it all off.
When I let it grow out because I am to lazy to shave it, it does get itchy but when it is shaved it looks hella sexy to me.

I have another reason why I shave it, because my husband love's to eat at my buffet and I would not want hair getting in his food now do I??

I never shaved until my dad pointed out to me one day on a family camping trip(I was 15) that something was hanging out of my swim suit and He said that girls cut that so it does not show in a swim suit. (I lived with my dad my whole life my mom was not in the picture)

Starkizzer 09-18-2006 11:43 PM

I shave everything off most of the time. Everynce in awhile i will leave a heart shape but normally i shave from one end to the other. I love it when my BF shaves EVERYTHING sack and all!

surferlove007 10-15-2006 07:13 PM

I guess I have kind of a skewed view on all this.
I started swim team at age 7, so I was in a bathing for 10 years of my life until I stopped the summer following my senior year before college.
I grew up having to trim my hair down there just because of my sport. Never thought anything of it until I got to middle school/high school when I realized other girls didn't shave or anything.
After middle school the hair started going beyond the damn bikini zone so had to wax it for swim team.
Waxing overall doesn't hurt me. The first time it was a complete shock, but now I don't mind too much. Have to wax every summer because I'm a lifeguard but it doesn't bother me in the least.
I was excited about not having to tend to my lawn for the first time in my life when i went to college because swimming and lifeguarding were over then I met a fellow who likes it waxed..so once again I wax.
Does anyone else wax?
I honestly don't mind it, it almost feels good being like "Ha, get off me!" when you rip the hairs out.

Sweetpea 10-15-2006 08:20 PM

I either wax or shave completely. I just prefer it that way myself, it feels smoother and I think it's more attractive, I also feel more comfortable naked that way :)

Samira 11-10-2006 03:56 PM

i was forced to shave when hair 1st appeared on my body, i was around 10 since its apart of our religion, i did do for a couple of years, up until i was 12, since then i haven't touched a hair, i prefer the natural fell. Plus i dont think that i will force my kids to shave and let them be natural too

noodle 11-11-2006 08:09 AM

I use one of those little "neck hair" trimmers that are all of $10 at Walgreens. I can't shave completely because I'm extremely prone to ingrown hairs and there is nooooo way I'd deal with the massive infected follicles I get down there. Actually, I found that the more often I trimmed, the more yeast infections I got, too. Weird. So now I just take the guard off the little electric razor and trim to about 1-2cm in length. And shave the edges completely.

Side note... after I shave and shower, Gold Bond baby powder rocks to keep newly shorn skin from chafing right away.

Xera 11-14-2006 05:40 PM

I use Nair. I know it isn't supposed to work, but it will. I trim myself down pretty good first then I apply the nair with a cotton ball, I have to let it sit for 10 minutes instead of the 4 they say, but it does work and I never get ingrowns that way.

I will not participate in any activity that is likely to get hair in my mouth and I don't expect darling to either. Since I enjoy oral SO much, I am more than willing to put up with the minor annoyances.
