The joys of showering

Not counting your sink, how many bottles of product do you have inside your shower?

Washing my hair this morning, I suddenly realized I have so much stuff in there, but I just know I'm not the only one.

Four bottles of shampoo, two bottles of conditioner, one tube of conditioner, two bottles of shower gel (one manly, one girly), two bars of Lush soaps, a Lush bar shampoo and tub of conditioner, all in various states of use.

And I won't count 2 disposable razors, one nail brush and blue pumice "sponge", 2 gel poufs and the toothbrush in the corner that I use to clean the grout.

I don't believe it's consumerism at work. I just like to smell good and pamper myself and really enjoy my shower. And I like choices that fit my moods.

What's in your shower?

PonyPotato 01-29-2008 06:49 AM

I have two sets of shampoo and conditioner (one Aveda, one Aussie), one bottle of shower gel, a bar of soap, and facewash.

Outside of the shower, I have my razor & extra blades, my pumice foot file thinger, and my Clarisonic.

Interesting question!

snowy 01-29-2008 08:58 AM

I streamline the amount of product in my shower every now and again, as I live with two guys who don't really appreciate me taking over the shower with my girl stuff.

So, right now it's down to Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner, Dove body wash, a daily use Neutrogena face wash, Clinique exfoliating scrub, my Gillette Mach 3 razor, and my Kiss My Face Lavender and Shea Butter Moisture Shave. I have a pouf and a scrub brush, too.

ColonelSpecial 01-29-2008 09:04 AM

Let's see, I have one shampoo, one conditioner, one little tube of conditioner from my hair color box, some body wash, some Lush shower gel (seriously the best stuff ever!), face wash and a pouf. Not too much stuff in my opinion.

ShaniFaye 01-29-2008 09:11 AM

we have 1 shampoo, one conditioner, one tube apricot facial scrub, one bar of soap and my razor (dave's razor stays on the vanity)

abaya 01-29-2008 10:31 AM

Almost identical to Shani & Dave, hehe: 2 Costco-size bottles of shampoo/conditioner, 1 bottle of my face wash, 1 bar of soap, and my razor.

I dislike crowded showers. I just tossed/recycled an empty can of shaving gel, a near-empty bottle of shower gel, and a pouf.

Sidenote: I had no idea that Lush was so popular... I've only seen it in Iceland. Ktspktsp bought me what looks like a dissolvable ball of really yummy-smelling stuff for Christmas, but I don't think it's soap... any clues? Do I have to have a bathtub to use it? :( We only have a tiny shower stall.

genuinegirly 01-29-2008 10:45 AM

3 people in the apartment (all adults):

2 bottles of shampoo
1 bottle conditioner
1 bar soap
2 bottles body soap
2 kinds of face wash
1 flamingo-shaped spongey.

If it's a bath bomb, I can't see it being used any other way. I don't have a tub but used my first Lush item (also a gift) on a weekend getaway when I had a spa tub in the room.

That's what got me curious about the rest of the Lush products. A store's about to open about an hour from me, but I was in the Orlando area and happened on a store there. This was only in November, and I've been a mega-Lush 'ho since :D I use their catalogues and website now, though.

mixedmedia 01-29-2008 11:19 AM

(1) shampoo
(1) conditioner
(1) body wash
(1) poufy sponge thing
(1) face wash

There's not a lot of room in my bathing module for bottles. :lol:

*Nikki* 01-29-2008 12:48 PM

I have a ton of stuff!

(4) Shampoo: Bath & Body Lime, Bath and Body Strawberry mint, Pantene for Brunettes, Tigi Bed Head

(6) Body Washes, two of which are my husbands

(1) shower sponge

(1)razor

(1) in shower conditioner

Also I am obsessed with body products so now I gotta check out this Lush stuff you girls are all talking about.

It does sound like a bath bomb. You can save it for a time when you do have a bathtub to use it in or if you can stopper your shower, you can crumble it into the water at your feet and that will release the smell. If you can't do either of those, you can crumble a little and mix it with some water and put it directly on your skin to make it soft. Good luck.

Well, I'm odd (wo)man out then I guess. I have very fine hair (a curse no doubt) and have found the using ivory or jergens bar soap works just great. So I have half a bar of soap and a fingernail brush that I use body-wide. No shampoos, no conditioners, no razor (fine, thin hair on body is a blessing), no lotions or potions.

TotalMILF 01-29-2008 02:18 PM

OMG Lush bar soap is the shit! I have some in my shower (along with 157342890 other things...)

ShaniFaye 01-29-2008 02:23 PM

I LOVE bath bombs, I have a friend that makes them homemade and I just giggle every time I use one hehe

In an attempt at minimizing body products, I have used only a bar of ivory soap for my hair and body for months at a time. Unfortunately, I have thick, wavy/curly hair down to my waist. Bar soap tends to make my hair feel thicker and more difficult to brush. I have often thought that it would work well on thin hair. It is nice to hear a comment to this effect.

abaya 01-29-2008 03:09 PM

So the point of a bath bomb is to enjoy the yummy smell, and it softens your skin more than regular water/bubble bath, etc? Just curious... and eager to give it a try! (Also am drawn to these Lush bar soaps that everyone keeps talking about... are they expensive?--well, stupid question in Iceland, I know--but relatively?)

Shaindra 01-29-2008 04:40 PM

2 shampoo
3 conditioner (1 intensive)
1 facial scrub
1 salt scrub
2 razors
1 bar soap
2 bottles body wash

(And here I thought this thread would be about hand-held shower massagers...) :thumbsup:

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one. And someone has more than me! I only have 157342889 things :p

Abaya - The bomb smells awesome and softens your skin, makes you smell good too. The soaps and stuff may seem pricey, but I find they really last a long time. The bath bombs are a luxury for me, but I'm on a fairly tight budget and buy their soaps, moisturizers and facial products.

Sugarmouse 01-29-2008 05:01 PM

I love bathbombs! I just love baths though with oils or bubbles or anything..:)
My bathroom though, is diddy, i mean like the bath takes up most of the room, the loo is next to it then I have a tiny sink and a cupboard almost the size of the room where I keep towels and misc. Products. On the windowsill there are a couple of old bottles of showerbubbles /gels and razors that belong to my huosemate..any other products are kept in my bedroom or it would get far too messy!
I want a bath now.

*hands jewels half a bar of soap* Now we're even :D

surferlove007 01-29-2008 09:19 PM

I have one washcloth, two bottles of sun silk shampoo, one bottle of sun silk conditioner and one biore facial cleanser. Oh and one razer..

At home there are a lot more things in the shower I can't think of. But I'm equally horrified we have so much in a shower that only gets used when I'm home. Rarely.

AngelaSI 01-30-2008 12:05 PM

Wow. ... I have 4 kinds of shampoos, a bottle of face soap and 2 kinds of conditioner.

little_tippler 01-30-2008 09:22 PM

1 bottle shampoo, 1 conditioner, 1 face wash, 2 body wash, 1 body scrub, 1 loofah sponge.

fascinating stuff lol

Grasshopper Green 01-31-2008 05:39 PM

All told, we have:

5 bottles of shampoo (3 are mine, 1 is hubby's, and 1 is son's)
2 bottles of conditioner
1 tube of conditioner
2 bodywashes (1 is mine that I use for shaving, 1 is for the boys)
2 poufs
1 soap
1 razor (mine)

I keep my bath oils and bubble bath under the sink :D
(WHAT is a bathbomb???)

I prefer to use soap, or I'm sure we'd have several bodywashes instead of just the 2.

Lush Bath Bombs

creepysusie 01-31-2008 06:38 PM

It is strange to see how much people are just in lvoe with the Lush products. I cannot even enter the store because the intense smells and perfumes are way too much on my sinuses.
I personally have 2 bottles of shampoo (pantene and outrageous) and 2 bottles of conditioner (again, same brands), a sponge from the dollar store for washing dishes that I use as an exfoliating scrubber (TIS A WORK OF MIRACLES), Netrogena daily facewash and a bar of citrus soap.

Meditrina 01-31-2008 06:53 PM

There are 4 of us in the house, 2 girls and 2 boys. (two are young children)

My husband has 1 shampoo/conditioner combo bottle, 1 bar of soap.
My son has 1 bottle of body wash, 1 shampoo/conditioner bottle, 1 bottle of bubbles, a sponge and a face cloth, and too many toys.
My daughter has 1 shampoo, 1 conditoner, 1 body wash, 1 sponge and 1 face cloth, a comb, bubble bath.
I have 2 shampoos, 1 conditioner, 1 body wash, 1 sponge and 1 face cloth, my razor, shaving cream, Dove facial cleanser cloths (you know, the kind with the soap already in them).
We also keep the daily shower cleaner in there.

Shaindra 02-01-2008 06:24 AM

I like visiting the Lush store, but I'm always astonished at the costs! I used to make my own soap for pennies on the dollar. I should probably try doing that again instead of coveting the Lush stuff.

PonyPotato 02-01-2008 07:12 AM

I'm not a big fan of Lush stuff. Or really even bath and body works stuff anymore. I use unscented soap or lightly scented bodywash (Alba), and unscented lotion, unscented deodorant, and occasionally I wear my apricot fig perfume that makes me happy.

I've changed around my shower essentials(went to Aveda again! That place takes so much of my money, but their products are so nice!), so now the list reads:

One shampoo, two conditioners (Aveda)
One shaving lotion
One bodywash
One bar of soap
One body scrub

And my new Aveda face cleanser travels from sink to shower, so it's usually only in the shower when I'm going to use it. Feels great with my clarisonic, though I'm sorta wishing I would have gotten the gel cleanser instead of the creme.

yummy75 02-01-2008 02:03 PM

I don't have much in my shower.

One shampoo bottle
One bar of soap
Razor
Shaving gel
matchbox car:orly:

diddagirl 02-01-2008 09:56 PM

What a fun, interesting question!
I have...
3 Shampoos
2 conditioners
Face exfoliant
Body Exfoliant
Exfoliating mitt
Face Wash
2 Body wash's
1 Razor
Shave Gel
Loofah

Grasshopper Green 02-02-2008 08:54 PM

Thanks for the link jewels...I had to try a bathbomb for myself (I'm such a sucker for bath goodies)

Molly_Ringworm 02-03-2008 03:12 PM

We have an 18 year old daughter living at home still, my husband, baby son and I.

Our shower is a bit of a nightmare, and we only have 1! (This house is too small for us, Luckily the shower is large!)

I have a 3 tier shelf that hangs off the shower spigot and one of those 4 tiered shelves that goes from the tub to the ceiling. And it's loaded, I probably should get rid of it, because I absolutely hate it and swear at it every 3 or 4 days when I clean it!!

On the shelves there are 3 bottles of conditioner, one deep conditioner for dry hair, and 2 different types fruity scented ones, 1 bottle of apple cider vinegar, (I like to do a vinegar rinse a few times a week) 5 bottles of shampoo, One for dandruff, one for psoriasis, one baby shampoo and two fruity scented types.

One bottle of pomegranate scented body wash, 2 bars of homemade bar soap, one oatmeal and goat's milk (baby's skin) and one magnolia scented, 1 bar of Coast deodorant soap.

On the shelving unit that hangs from the shower, there are 3 types of facial cleansers, 2 buff puffs, 2 razors, one shower mirror, and one shower radio.
(waterproof radio) A loofah, And a back brush. :eek:

The difference as they bars do last a long time as you said. I have a friend who makes homemade soaps as gifts for the holidays and birthdays etc. They are absolutely wonderful and do last a long time. If you really do enjoy the bath bombs and are interested I could see if she would be willing to pass along a recipe, she has said that they are incredibly simple and easy to make.

As far as my shower, I am about embarrassed. I have 3 bottles each of shampoo and conditioner. 4 bars of soap in various scents(my friends homemade products.. yummy) one scrubby with a wooden handle for getting my back, one bath sponge, one regular bath poof, one of those callous removers, my razor of of course and a small jar of scented fizzy bath salts.

We have hardly anything IN the shower. It's a small cubicle for now. We are building a huge 5x7 shower with 4 shower head (2 for each person). Even so I expect it will be fairly slim pickings INSIDE the shower.

Outside the shower I have a few more things but still not MANY.

Inside
---------
His 2 in 1 shampoo
Bar Lever soap
Bottle suave body gel
Can skintimate shaving cream
Disposable razor
Bottle Pantene Moisture replenishing shampoo
Bottle Pantene " conditioner
Apricot facial scrub
Jar Pantene hair mask
Pumic stone
A small bottle of vinigar (useful for combating any yeasties/fungus)

I suppose I could eliminate the Hair mask since I use it only weekly and I did not have it in the shower yesterday morning but I USED it last night and didn't take it out. As for OUTSIDE the shower but within reach...

shampoo
conditioner
bar soap
Skin-so-soft body oil in a spray bottle
lotion
vinigar and water disposible douche

Doesn't seem like all that much.

When I've lived with other women, I've definitely had more in the way of products. I think living with men really has trimmed down the number of products I have.

Jenna 02-17-2008 09:23 AM

Way too much stuff in my shower!

- 2 razors (my boyfriends and mine)
- Biolage Shampoo
- Biolage Conditioner
- Bar of soap
- 2 bottles of Suave shampoo (what my guy uses)
- Some mens body soap, I forget the brand
- Conditioner from the box dye I used

Tuft 02-20-2008 11:21 AM

I don't keep everything I use in the shower... in the shower.

I've got a bottle of shampoo and conditioner, a face wash/scrub combo, and body wash. But on a little shelf in the bathroom, I keep my shaving cream and razor, another moisturizing body wash, an exfoliating scrub, and a bottle of honey bubble bath liquid. In my wardrobe I have two different bottles of hair conditioning masks, as well as a thing of bath salts.

This is not counting the two spare shampoo and conditioner bottles and bodywash I've got in the "beauty" drawer in my bedroom for when my stuff runs out. Until recently, I had a scrub bar and jasmine shampoo bar from Lush I got as Xmas gifts. hmmm.

dd3953 03-07-2008 02:10 PM

in my shower: 1 bar of soap, a bottle of bubble bath, & a wash cloth.

in the bathroom: jar of olive oil and luster's pink (for my hair), a comb, a brush, toothpaste, listerine, nair, o.b.s, q-tips, a&d, and a ashtray :)

EDIT: oh, and my toothbrush

JustDoll 03-09-2008 02:24 PM

hahhaa, and i was having this conversation with my boyfriend yesterday, and he was saying how I put myself through so much hassle to take a 20 minute shower. But i'll say its more fulfilling than ever. =)

1 shampoo, 1 conditioner
1 body wash
1 body scrub (sea salt)
1 body puff (to maximize the bubbles of my body wash)
1 back scrubber
1 razer with 3 refills at the back of the razer dispenser
1 shaving cream
2 face washes (morning and night)
1 toothpaste + toothbrush

If i had to take anyone item out, i don't think i would be able to do it.
and all these without mentioning the stuff thats around the sink and mirror. lol.

YES, definitely consumerism at work. =(

ÐiGiRed 03-11-2008 10:31 AM

None of this is actually in my shower.. but it's all stuff I use...

razor(s)
at least one of those body poof thingys
shampoo/conditioner
body wash

I'm sure there's more. I just can't think of anything else at the moment.

ItWasMe 03-24-2008 06:52 AM

I have 10 bottles and 18 "other things" (from soap bars to razors, etc). Thank goodness for the shower caddies. We have 4 females and 1 male in the house, and I swear half of those 28 items are his alone. I'd count the items in my teenage daughter's shower, but I am afraid to go in there. I would have to get through her bedroom first.

Vindicated0411 03-27-2008 10:48 AM

In my shower I have shampoo and conditioner (Biotera from Sallys if you haven't tried it, great stuff!), two bottles of body wash from Bath and Body Works (Japanese Cherry Blossom and Cotton Blossom), Clean and Clear Morning Burst Facewash, two loofahs, and two razors, and a handfull of my hair rubberbands where I take them off when I wash my hair (about once a week I'll take the pile and put them back in my room). Thats it I believe.

ShaniFaye 03-27-2008 01:22 PM

One of our esteemed men asked me to post this on his behalf :)

Post on the Shower thread that THIS guy shares his house with a wife and a daughter, and has the following in the cubicle:

* My Shampoo
* My Fancy Shower Gel
* My Regular Shower Gel
* My Shaving Foam
* My Soap
* My Razor
* Wife's Shampoo
* Wife's Conditioner
* Wife's Shower Gel
* Wife's Organic Shower Gel
* Wife's Razor
* Wife's Natural Sponge
* Wife's Puffy Nylon Thingy (this is the technical name - it appears to be made out of a scrunched up net bag that they used to put oranges in at my local store)
* Daughter's Shampoo
* Daughter's Conditioner
* Daughter's Shower Gel
* Daughter's Bubble Bath (Normal)
* Daughter's Bubble Bath (Dalek shaped bottle)
* Daughter's Soap
* Daughter's Spare Soap
* Daughter's Puffy Nylon Thingy
* Daughter's Flannel

Spares of less vital things are in the basket by the bath.

Long term storage is in the cupboard on the wall.

Very long term storage is in the closet.

On an aside - we have to use sham-poo because we're not rich enough to afford REAL poo.
_

Sweetpea 03-27-2008 07:01 PM

2 bottles of shampoo
2 bottles of conditioner
Puff
Soap
face wash scub

not much considering what everyone else has :lol:

I love love love showers, relaxing underneath a gorgeous stream of water. We have one of those 'rain shower' showerheads, it's like being under a waterfall, it's delicious. Nothing can change your mood like a nice hot shower in the evening to wash the stress of the day away and get yourself in a sexy relaxed mood...

:)

Lindy 03-28-2008 11:14 AM

I just love showers, and one of my guilty pleasures is spending a good long time in a shower with plenty of hot water and NO FLOW RESTRICTORS. I can't even remember the last time I used a bath tub (other than to stand in the tub while taking a shower.)
I just cleaned the shower last Saturday, and here's what's in there:
(1) bottle of Suave shampoo -- about half full
(1) bar of Irish Spring -- nearly gone
(1) bar of Kirk's Hardwater Castile soap -- nearly new
a backbrush with loofah
a razor -- I have fine hair --shave about once a month using soap
Scotchbrite pad -- I use instead of pumice bar
(1) Tom's of Maine fennel flavor toothpaste (I hate the taste of mint!)
and toothbrush (Does anybody think it's weird to brush teeth in the shower? :confused: It's a family thing I grew up with in Kansas, but everybody here in Boston thinks it is strange.)

Lindy

I used to like to play with my (ex)husband in the shower:) (Another family tradition -- my Mom and Dad showered together, and we kids thought that was weird), but my last two SOs haven't cared for that.:shakehead:
