Bed Linens

I was shopping this afternoon for new sheets, a new comforter and bed skirt and it got me to thinking.

Dave LOVES shopping for sheets and such. He is not afraid of flowery or frilly (which is pretty much a moot point for me cause I cant stand either....light flowery is ok but I dont like feeling like Im sleeping in a botanical garden), BUT if I did like them he wouldnt have a problem with it, we spend a lot of time when we go shopping together looking and commenting on bedding.

It got me to thinking of other women and if their S/O's have a preference or even actually care what they sleep on/under.

So....what do your guys have to say to you on the subject?

My hub doesn't care for flowery designs, which works because I don't really either. What's way more important to both of us is the material the bedding is made from--how soft it is, how it retains heat or cool, how long it lasts, etc.

I just got a great deal on a very fancy new comforter, and what I'll likely do is buy good-quality but solid color sheets that go with the comforter. It saves $ on stuff that won't be on display anyways.

I've gotten hooked on 400 count egyptian cotton before Dave I'd never really had anything over 150-200 count and when his parents gave us their bed (they got one of those sleep numbers and gave us their 1 year old mattresses) we needed sheets cause I'd never had anything bigger than a full size and this was a queen...so his mom gave us a set of the 400 count and I was hooked lol

600 count is nice too, but Its hard enuff for me to pay for 400 much less 600

ngdawg 02-01-2007 03:20 PM

He doesn't even care where he sleeps, let alone on what :D
I'm not a frilly person at all; stripes and plaids and solid colors are preferrable.
Our bedroom is gray, white and peach, mostly gray and white. Since gray is one of those colors that comes and goes with time, I don't have a lot to choose from-the only store around here that even carries that color is Kohl's and I can't afford them(they only sell full sets).
I love 400 count sateen; what I end up doing economically is buying a plain white percale fitted sheet and splurging on the topsheets and cases. Needless to say, I don't have many sheets.

A refuses to let me have anything flowery in the bedroom. He said I can make the bathroom as girly as I want (I won by having a few flowers on our shower curtain) but that the bedroom can't be. Small steps- I painted one wall a cool shade of a spa purple, and he likes it. :D

We can't have anything flowery on the bed. Not even a sparsely flowery pattern. But what's more important to me anyway is the fabric. I think what we've got now is an 800 thread count set. *heaven* We got them on sale at Kohl's, but have seen higher thread counts for about the same price at Sams Club.

We've got a couple other sets, but compared to this one they feel scratchy. :(

I'm hoping to go nuts for our bedroom soon

<forgot where I was> :shakehead:

Daniel last time I checked (unless you've had a sex change) you're not genderally (is that a word lol) able to post in here

I hate flower prints for the most part. I might come across something every now and again that is ok. Our bedroom is painted Gray and I have a Gray/Black/White/Tan comforter. I prefer solid colors. As far as sheets go I like the ones that are the t-shirt material OR flannel. We have one set that is a high tread count and I only usually use those during the summer. During the winter I stick with the flannel.

I love bedding though, and would have a bunch of cool stuff for the bed if I could afford it.

Topper doesn't care, as long as I'm happy, it's fine with him. however, we tend to have the same taste anyway, so maybe I've just never tested it  One place where he drew the line was the big white canopy I used to have over the bed (think: expensive mosquito net) But that was only because he kept getting his feet stuck in it at night. :)

One of the big splurges everyone must have is 1000 count sateen sheets, we have them in white and yellow. Yes, they cost a pretty penny, but these things get softer and softer with each washing and last a long time. I've been really happy with them. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...=-1&sku=109008

We are in the process of looking for replacement sheets.

Requirements from the SO:
1) high thread count
2) solid color
3) dark color that matches our navy blue comforters

Personally, I'm pushing for a new sheet/duvet combination, so I can put our big comforter in a duvet and coordinate the whole thing. As it is, we've got two navy blue comforters--one is his ratty thing that he won't let go of, the other is a thicker, nicer one we share--that don't match the black sheet set he had when I moved in with him. It's time that we got bedding for ourselves, and not just this hodgepodge of whatever we can dig up.

I prefer lighter colors, honestly, so I don't know how I've lasted this long with this dark blue/black business.

You can find lighter colors that'll complement the navy beautifully! Why not try an ivory? He gets his navy, and you can get something to go with it. :)

My hubby doesn't care! As long as it's comfy and not too warm. he's a real furnace so he doesn't like flannel. That means that since I am not nearly as warm as he is I get pretty much all the blankets. This works if I go to bed before him, but he doesn't like to cuddle with all those blankets so I depend on light covers and his body heat most of the time. ;) Not that I mind that much :D

We have solid color sheets in 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton, in green, ivory, taupe, light blue, and gold. They were on sale, so I got a bunch. Grace likes high thread count Egyptian cotton, but the colors and styles are mine to deal with as I see fit, so long as everything matches.

The comforters are all mine to choose, and I like to switch off depending on season and mood. Right now we have an ivory comforter with green and yellow flowers and little labeled herbs on it with the green sheets, but I'll probably switch that for the golden marble print comforter on the ivory sheets next week when we change them.

Artemystikal 02-15-2007 04:46 PM

My guys always wonder why I have to have everything matching...
