Anyone use the NuvaRing?
So I went for my yearly gyn visit yesterday, and when I mentioned to my Dr that I wasn't happy with my current birth control, she suggested I try the NuvaRing. I was intrigued, so she wrote me a prescription.
Have any of you ladies used the NuvaRing? Does it stay in there? Can your hubby/bf feel it when you're having sex? Is there anything else I should know? ![]() (for those of you who don't know what NuvaRing is, it's a plastic ring that is folded and inserted into the vagina. It's left in there for 3 weeks and releases hormones during that time) Last edited by Spiffgirl; 06-15-2006 at 06:10 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Oh, there's another thread by Abaya, and one by *Nikki*, I just can't find them right now.... Arggh!
1. Yes, it does stay without any issue. 2. Not when we had sex, but with fingers, yes. 3. Other stuff... this one is supposed to be pretty good, as it's supposed to give you the lowest, most steady dose of hormones necessary. However, the concepts are exactly the same. See this post for more info. That's a great info-heavy thread altogether. Basically, if you're okay on hormonal BC in general, the ring will probably be fine. If you have other issues - headaches etc., keep an eye on them, they don't necessarily get better on the ring. Without knowing why you were not happy with the other BC, or what kind it was... can't tell you more than that. Hope that helps!

Yeah, there are other threads on this... don't forget to Search before starting a new one.
The ring is awesome. It stays just fine, pretty tough to get it out, actually. Partner can't feel it, 99% of the time... the other 1% it's a non-issue. I've never, ever had any kind of problems with it, whatsoever. And I only have to think about it once a month. I've never been on the pill and probably will never be, since the Ring is SOOOO much better and easier to use.

The search index has yet to be rebuilt, which is why no threads are showing up regarding Nuva-Ring.
I've been on it for a year and I love it. Highly recommended!

Thanks, girls! Yeah, I tried searching for other threads about it, and nothing came up (which surprised me, but you said they're rebuilding it, onesnowyowl, so that explains why). I will definitely check those threads out.
I was on OrthoEvra (patch) before, and I liked the convenience of it, but I was getting brown blotches on my breasts, and I didn't like the idea of putting so much more estrogen into my body than necessary (60% more estrogen is absorbed through the patch than the pill). |

Yep, I was on the Patch for a year before I switched to the Ring (never tried any other methods than those... well, condoms of course!). The Patch really messed with me every time I put it back on after my period... I threw up a lot, was nauseous on a regular basis. Ick. I wasn't surprised when they made the announcement about the estrogen overdose! Pretty messed up.
The ring: never threw up, never really felt anything. I did feel nauseous one month, but I don't think it was related. Also, maybe once or twice the Ring has lodged itself in an inconvenient spot, and I notice an irritation after sex (from the rubbing of skin on the ring)... but I just poke my finger in and scootch it around to a new spot, and it's better after that. I definitely vote for it. ![]()

Yeah, the patch made me feel really nauseous in the beginning, but that went away after a few months. Considering the blood clots too, I just think it's a bad idea to put so much more of something (estrogen in this instance) than you really need in your body. I'm not even sure any hormonal BC is totally safe, even in low, low doses. We can't be totally sure about long-term effects.

I just stopped the Depovera shot... convient but I'm wanting to get a cycle back again so that we can try for our own child later. My question is... what's the expense on the ring?
The last time I took a BC pill, they're so small and dry like that they got stuck in my throat and I hated that feeling cause it makes me feel sick. I'm older now, so mayhaps they won't make me as sick as I was. I'm willing to try some of the other types so I can plan my next child.

I adore the ring and they arent very expensive, then again your insurance provider determines that lovely detail. My biggest problem is hormone sensativity. It is less with the ring that it ever was on the pill but I am still prone to headache, nausea, debilitating cramps andthew occasional dizzy spell. Alas, everything has its price!

i usually go to my local health department but they don't have many options on alternative bc.
the ring was out. they have the diaphram.. iud (sp?), pills and condoms. i think maybe spermicide. i'm just curious how long i have to stay off the shot before i can start the ring. i read that you're supposed to start it the same day your shot is to be on. but i hadn't read that til after my due date, and i'd have to go somewhere else to get the ring instead of them. i'm hoping it'll be something that's alittle more convient that the pill. i have a hard enough time remembering my other medication much less remembering something that severely important

Try Planned Parenthood - far better options and better set up. The Ring is usually started the first day of your cycle. Go chat with someone at PP to confirm, and get all the details.
So far, so good on the IUD, by the by. There's a whole thread on that in the Ladies Lounge. Quote:
As SOON as I went off of hormonal birth control, my moods, migraines, and sex drive all improved vastly. Talk to someone about it, really really.

Just thought I'd give an update...
I went totally off of hormonal bc for a month, and my hubby asked me not to go back on it- he noticed a huge difference in my moods and libido, and I've been feeling pretty good, so I' m thinking that for now I'll hold off on the NuvaRing. Many thanks to all of you for your help & advice!!! |

Well, just be aware of the risks of being off it... that whole pregnancy thing.
![]() I'll say it again, though... my libido has really not suffered at all from being on the Ring. I'd venture to say it's even increased. ![]()

script. I told her I wouldn't mind trying out to see what kind of effects it would have. If it would cause me to feel like I did on the pill.
I get to start it on Sunday. I just was wondering if it works out with this... do I have to place the next on in about the same time period? Like if you did it in the morning... would the next one be around those hours?

Hmmm... weird... half my danged post isn't there
![]() It should have said I went to the doctor about a bite on my neck and it was a allergic reaction to some kind of bug. And I asked about the ring then. I quit my depo shot last month cause of the bone loss problem. I have neck problems as well as injury related scolisos (sp?)... I didn't think I needed that to make those worse. I'll def check out the utility due to the fact that I am on my computer nearly every day! ![]()

It was years ago when I was on the pill. I do remember the nausae and near vomiting I would have with it every day I took it. *shudder*
I started a antibotic for this allergic reaction... and I swear it was like being back on the pill. I'm hoping the side effects on the ring will be like the shot was for me. No sickness. I can handle anything but feeling like I'm going vomit every time I even wiggle.
