Exchange Question
For those of you who work/worked in the retail industry, I got some question for yall.
My mom had sent me 3 season worth of tv show in dvd that I already have (Apparently, she's not reading my xmas list). I would send it back but knowing her, the chances of her sending something else back is pretty slim, especially if she has the original receipt. So, my question is this: Can I just simply take it to a local HMV, Futureshop, Bestbuy or whatever other place that sells the same thing and get it exchanged? Even though, I don't have the receipt? I would head to one of the shop and ask but I ain't gonna waste an hour worth of driving only to find out that I can't.

As long as it is still in the original packaging, I would say yes. Most places are really good about exchanging stuff as long as it isn't opened. Don't expect any money back though.

I have, in the few times I've had too, been ok in exchanging stuff I havnt had the reciept for at HMV. As Long as its still sealed they've always just been cool given me something to either the same value, or if its more paying the difference, and if its less giving me the change in vouchers. So should be OK getting it exchanged.

Nearly all retail stores will take an exchange without a receipt on an unopened product that they normally stock. That last part is the kicker. Most electronics manufacturers (computers are the worst, FYI) have multiple model numbers and will send Bestbuy an HX-101 and Circuit Shitty will get an HY-101. They'll look exactly the same but have different UPCs and model numbers and the one won't take the other's product. Just check out that part first and you should be good.
