Secret Santa - Who Does It? What Did You Get?

We did Secret Santa at my school this week. I got a guitar magazine, two Coffee Crisps and a bag of Swedish berries!

I enjoy secret santa.

I think the best part is writing "Thank You Secret Sanchez" on the board in the staff room.

At my work, we don't do Secret Santa...instead we have various Fun Days, a silent auction, and many prize giveaways. Since I don't work in an office, it makes a lot of sense.

With friends, this year we're organizing a White Elephant gift exchange. I don't know what I'm going to get and give away for it yet, but there will be lots of cookies, eggnog, and candy, as well as a fully decorated Christmas tree Friends, of course, are the most important element of the equation.

I mentioned this in my journal. I totally scored in our work exchange, with a Trivial Pursuit: Pop Culture 2 DVD edition, board game. We love board games, so this will make a fine addition to our collection.

I gave a copy of Billy Crystal's book: 700 Sundays.

The suggested value was $20-$25. Everyone did pretty well.

Hmm, I did it once at my old job. I think I gave a gift certificate for HMV and I received a scarf from the Gap.

We had one at work, but I didn't go in for it. I have enough trouble buying for people that I'm close to, let alone someone I haven't even spoken to, (I haven't been there that long) which knowing my luck would be who I would pull out of the bag. Of course, I realise that what I should have done, was to just go in for it, and then post on here for any ideas. Good idea, way too late.

A bunch of us got together on the weekend and I managed to get a Maglight and mini-Maglight... I've never been happier.

I organised one at work - we set a £5 limit (~$7) we've not had the presies yet.

I'm part of one on another messageboard - I got my victim a CD, but haven't had my gift yet.

We do a "Secret Santa" gift exchange at my work. Each employee in our department writes his or her name on a slip of paper, and then lists things that he or she likes, as well as some favorite stores. The slips of papers are all put into a hat, and then each person picks a name out of the hat. This makes it easy to buy gifts that the person will like.

I love NASCAR and my favorite drivers are Dale Earnhardt, Sr. (R.I.P.) and Elliott Sadler. The person who drew my name bought me a 1:24 scale diecast replica of Elliott Sadler's old CITGO sponsored car, which is very cool.

We did this at work last year and I got a silver(ish) and gold(ish) photoframe which is possibly, the thing I hate most in my house, I just feel I have to have it up though as it was a gift...Boo poor secret santa presents...

Ooh, just remembered when we did it in my high school class as well and I got a Cycle puncture repair kit. Great...apart from the fact I did not have a bike...God, I hate secret santas...

I bought two people Secret Santa gifts (we have an odd number of people at my company): A gift certificate to Victoria's Secret for Dawn and a bottle of Jack Daniel's with a set of highball glasses for Verne.

I got a gift certificate to Borders and a small carved stone turtle (for putting on top of my cards when I play poker) from Vinnie.

It was the first year we've done Secret Santa, and I think it went very well.

We don't do Secret Santa's at work. We do a grab bag during the Holiday Party. $10 max. It is hard to buy for this because you don't know if a man or woman is going to get your gift. Last year I received a Mikasa candy dish. It is pretty, but I don't leave candy out. This year I missed the party and therefore no grab bag for me this year.
