sent my info to an unsolicited Amazon email, help please!
I recieved an email saying it was from Amazon that said my bank had contacted them about possible unauthorized activities in my account.
Like the idiot I am, I didn't give it a thought until after I had sent the info off. I went to Amazon, looked under their "Safe and Secure Online Transactions" section, and felt my breakfast become leaden in my stomach. It says they don't send out unsolicited emails looking to verify user account information. I contacted Amazon about it in an email, and hopefully they can help out. Since today is Sunday, I'll have to wait til tomorrow to cancel my debit card, but, I was wondering if you more savvy and smarter internet users know of any actions I can take in the meantime? Thank you for your help and advice. |
until you get ahold of the bank.. you just need to be patient and sit tight.
i know you are squirming in your seat but that's just part of anxiety. i'm sure you'll be able to cancel your card quickly and with little to no repercussions. good luck! |
Just in case you haven't, I would change your Amazon.com password immidiately.
|
Thanks guys, I changed my password and deleted my card information there, as well.

Are you sure you can't cancel the card? Any card issuing company in the UK has 24/7 support/fraud lines.
|
Wouldn't a debit card have a 24 hour lost/stolen line just like a credit card? Your bank statement might have that information on it.
Good Luck! |
Your password is changed, that is good.
Your card should have a 24/7 help line, and call that and inform them of your situation. |
I can't help feel like a three kinds of fool. *shakes head at self*
I just called and reported/cancelled the card. Y'all are the best. Thank you for your response. :) |
How long until they send you out a replacement?

So, I'm not sure. The card was due to expire in November anyway, which at that point they would've sent a new one. I suppose it will now be a little bit earlier. (or not) ;) |
Don't worry. Now they it has been reported stolen, it is dead. They can't make any purchases.
|
Let me get this straight... you actually sent your debit card number to someone in an email???
|
It's incredible how diverse and effective these phishing scams are. I once heard tell of a woman who got a phone call 'from Mastercard' offering her protection against just such a scam for pennies a day. And of course, they just needed the card information to verify that they were talking to the card holder...
You're lucky you caught on quickly and took the appropriate steps. Never give out personal information in any sort of unsolicited contact, no matter who they claim to be. If you think it may be legit, go back to the main website and find an email address or phone number. Get in touch and find out. |

Definitely contact your bank! That's what I did when I actually fell for a citibank fake email!
|
Called the bank this morning. All I need to do is go in and sign for a new card.
Thank you all for your advice and support, it was much appreciated. :) |
