The "Loyal Opposition" is a term of respect used in English politics.
It refers to the opposition in the House of Parliament and implies that, whilst they may oppose the current government (whomsoever they should be at the time), they still remain loyal to the Crown. I hope that makes it clearer to "our American cousins" (another charming English phrase). :) Mr Mephisto |
