Our animal shelter needs your help!
Friskas is giving away grants of $10,000 to ten animal shelters accross the country, and ours is one of the 20 finalists. The money would be used to make a new area for abandoned cats and kittens.
Our shelter really could use this money. They are so low on funds that they are thinking of shutting down the cat area completely. If you would like to help our shelter out by voting, go to www.friskies.com to vote. You have to click on the link with LeAnn Rimes face, and that will take you to the voting. Of course, you can vote for whichever shelter you choose, but ours is the shelter in Council Bluffs, IA. Please visit the site and vote for a shelter (maybe even ours!). edit: fixed link Last edited by MSD; 07-23-2004 at 07:35 AM.. |

Based on the email that's sent -- looks like it's a vote early, vote often proposition. So tune in tomorrow and vote again?

Yes, it is true. I have sucessfully voted again.
I wonder if they take into consideration the size of the towns. I know that some of the towns in the running are considerably bigger than ours, and that would obviously hinder voting.

I was going to vote for yours, but then I saw one in the local area (Golden) and just had to vote for that one first. I'll just have to get on and vote for yours tomorrow.

Consider it done. I have a soft spot for cats - our oldest is a shelter cat, and our younger one is a rescued stray. We have a host of dumpster cats living outside our office and I'm thinking of contacting one of the local feral spay programs to get humane traps.
I hope your shelter wins!

Ruybee, if it's any of my business, how do you guys support the shelter. We have a wonderful "no kill" one close by, and it seems to be most successful, but works an "angle" to finance the operation. I'm sure if you would PM "anitra" she could give you more details, as she has been involved in its promotion over the years. |

The shelter in Wichita County - Wichita Falls, TX looks to be in pretty bad shape, but they all look really cold and uncomfortable.
Then again, it's a place to stay and ideally just a temporary holding area until they find a home. I voted, and wish you luck.
