Do you like your job?

Okay, so while i was at work today, i just sort of started to think how i actually like my job, and wondered if other people out there like their jobs or not. If you've taken enough time to read this far, and maybe even vote in the poll, why don't you just tell us a little about what you do and why you like it or don't like it. also, if you're unemployed, tell us about that. student? what job do you want to do? boy do i wish someone had seriously asked me that when i was in college.

so here's me: i just started working at UPS on a preload shift which is from 3AM to 8AM, roughly. it's only part time, because i will be going back to school this fall, but it's a job nonetheless. i like my job because it is all physical, and working with my hands. i love that. plus, they will pay for the rest of my school! :-D the only thing that sucks are the hours. yeah, not easy to get used to.

I dont really have a real job... I work random construction type jobs when ever I feel like it... I always have a job to do, like right now i should be framing... but I dont feel like it. I love my "job"

I dont know... I really do enjoy framing... well anything involving the manipulation of wood. I am not going to do this for the rest of my life, but I feel good after work... its more than tolerable..

It's tolerable. Some days are worse than others. For the most part, I'm my own boss, and others ask me for help. But there are other days when people are too demanding, and I feel like walking away, but don't. Times like those I go get a pop, and surf the net for a minute or two to settle down.

I work in a kitchen. I do prep work and make the salads/appetizers for the dinner shift. Some days work doesn't seem all that bad, and in fact I have a good time because some funny funny people work there. Other days I get tempted to just quit and leave.

My job was great at first, but we've run into a major dry spell lately (the past month and a half) with no signs of anything picking up. You would think it would be great to get paid to do nothing but surf on the Internet, but the lack of anything else to do really gets on you after a while. So, I've decided that it's time for a change.

Quadraton, I had a similiar situation at a retail store, time just ceases to exist and I sat their for hours just browsing the internet. It got to me over time and I couldn't take it anymore so I quit.

I love my job to bits (i work in the ornamental fishkeeping trade), it's the dogs bollocks, to quote a phrase.
When it gets busy in the summer, i positivly bound into work, but then i realise how little i get paid, and how tedious it can be when it's quiet, so i stop off to get breakfast instead.

I'm just waiting to get through uni and go off into the research side of things, more money, better fish.

While there are some days that make me want to rip my hair out and run screaming fromthe building... 97.5 percent of the time I love what I do, and 99 percent of that is because I love the people I work with. I have known most of them for more than 10 years, when I was working for a client of my company (liked the product so much I went to work for them) It's a small company, there are 15 of us, but there are times,when I've been in another time zone, and have gotten someone out of a nice warm bed, for an emergency. (One of my favorite programmers is a former Marine who did several tours in Vietnam, and he works under the philosophy, that you don't leave your buddies in the field) (I have been awoken from a sound slumber too, so turnabout is fair play.

The people I work with all have pretty similar personality types, the majority of us are a little hotheaded, and can, and have had screaming matches with one another about various things, but, once the dust clears, we go get coffee, and it's forgotten because deep down we like one another.

the work is challenging on some days, I like the products we make.

I hate air travel in the summer, and this is shaping up to be the worst summer on record for delays, I'm averaging so far about 3 hours a week in delays, but in the long run, it's worth it.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the people I work with, I would have been gone a long time ago. The bright side is, not only do I get paid to surf the Internet, but I also get paid to have really long coffee breaks.

Very simply, yes. I love my job. And even better - sus and mimi love their jobs too! Perhaps more important, we appreciate our jobs as well. I feel that is really the best it can be. Feeling good about being at work rocks!

hehe, we just had a thread like this on another forum I frequent.

I work in Payroll for a biotech company. What our company does is awesome…what I do is not so awesome heheh. Lots of excel, ADP Enterprise Payroll (who suck ASS btw), and everything technical when it comes to Payroll…mapping between databases, SAP, Lotus Notes etc. Not real exciting stuff, but I'm good at it, it pays well, and the people I work with are awesome!

PCHelpSource (www link) is my side business. Wish I could just be doing that full time, but getting a business off the ground isn’t easy, very inconsistent and if it didn’t pan out, I’d have no one to fall back on. Plus the financial struggle while I tried to build the biz wouldn’t be feasible with wife and 2 kiddies. That’s ok…the amount of business I have on the side is good for now, keeps me busy, but I still have enough time to party hehe.

I absolutely love my job, not only for the job itself, but also for the people I work for.

I am a technical design engineer and its absolutely great for me to design something and see the desgin actually used and oft not a patent gotten for it. It really makes me feel like I've accomplished something

Plus Im the only female where I work and that has got great perks too...I love not having to share a bathroom hehehehe

I am one of the few who voted no. My current job is not where I would like to be although there is potential. Of course, I think there's potential in everything so that may not quite make up for the frustrating parts of it.

Anyway, I work as a Business Analyst for a pharmaceutical company. Now, many here would think that title has to do with IT type stuff but it does not. It's the true sense of the word business. How is the company (and its various units) performing? Where are we versus goals? What can be done to improve operations? Etc, etc, etc.

Normally I am excited by this type of work but the current position is hindered by significant change in system infrastructure and political infighting. Constant shifts in my responsibility for certain business units have made it difficult to contribute significantly (at least to my own expectations, not to others expectations) to their improvement.

Anyway, I will continue to force change from within towards the greater good of the company until I find something a bit more personally rewarding and/or I take the plunge into one of my various business ideas.

On the good side, the pay and benefits are very good and most of the people are outstanding.

When I left school I had no idea what I wanted to do with myself. Through a friend of a friend I got a job as a trainee draughtsman in an architects office. He was 64 years old when he took me on and he retired a couple of years after I joined which left me in limbo. Inspired, I studied architecture the following years and, hey presto! a career was born.

My only minor gripe (and it's very minor) is the niche I seem to have found myself in. Most of my work comes from hospitals which isn't the most interesting or expressive form of building although it can be rewarding at times.

One thing I learnt as a trainee is how to draw by hand (with a drawing board and pens, remember them?) which I still enjoy far more than drawing freehand or on a computer, purely for personal enjoyment.

Remind me, what was I talking about?

Oh yeah. My job, love it.

Selling video games all day is a great job, it has its downsides of course, but the pros outweigh the cons.

I'm one that believes you should enjoy what you do to be good at it, or at least the best that you can be.

i'm sorry to hear that you don't like your job onetime. that's exactly what i was afraid of when i graduated from college. i didn't want to get some sort of business job where i had to go to work dressed all nicely and then play the stupid politics games at work. i worked in manufacturing for several years, and it never ceased to amaze me how messed up companies are on the inside. and i'm not just talking about small companies. huge ones too. there is so much infighting it's impossible to get anything done! that's why i like to work with my hands. because i can see the product of my work right away, and as an auto mechanic, which i hope to be some day soon, my hands are my work, and the politics i would have to deal with would be minimal.

I too love my Job. I am a Loan Originator, or Mortgage Broker, or whatever they are called in your area. Basically, I am an independant contractor whose main goal is to to hook clients up with an investor (lendor) that suits their needs.

I would have to say that the only downfall of this job is that I bascially push paper all day. At the end of my day, I look around my office and just see files, unlike construction or something physical where you can see what you have accomplished.

Between jobs myself, but am about to finalize my teaching credential and, I'm with you, Urbski. I do like the little monsters, however, though I'm looking forward with some trepidation to Year One.

I've liked most jobs that kept me busy and allow me to use my own judgment. I've dislike most jobs where I've been micromanaged, or where there isn't enough to do. Looking busy is the hardest work there is.

Doesn't it kind of suck not getting the money during those three months though? My dad is a teacher and it gets tight sometimes during the summer.

I didn't answer. I don't particularly enjoy my job, but compared to the job I had before this it's paradise!! Whenever I have negative thoughts of this position I just reflect on where I came from, and feel at peace, plus I'm actively working towards having a position I enjoy.

Yes, I do, and I've been there a month and I feel welcome and at home there. I'm an HR asst. at a Mortg. Corporate office with many people to interact with through the day in different departments. Everyone is really nice, and I like doing my work, it's not repetative and I like to learn the new things.

I think I've been pretty fortunate with my jobs- I've liked working at Starbucks, and yes, even Papa Murphy's- because the people I worked with were great. Oh, and I worked for my folks- I loved it and I still clean for them once a month and help out with any designing projects.

I could list off a bunch of reasons why I hate my job, I cook at a homeless shelter. The kitchen is air conditioned, but you can't tell when you spend half of your day next to a 450 degree oven. I've been spat on, but some of my co-workers have been threatened or even attacked. It's not hard to catch a disease where I work either.
On the plus side, the pay is good, upper management has long-term plans for me, and at the end of the day I'm always proud of the work I did. That's all I could ever ask for in a job.

I really like my new job. I walk around casually selling phones, talking to people, making their day better, helping my employees.

I think part of the satisfaction comes from the knowledge that I had to work to get where I am.

So now I can relax a little.

I like the job I have mainly because of the people, and the fact the company is one of the largest in the world in the banking field makes it possible to keep work interesting by moving around to different areas/departments when there are openings. Having overseas possibilities and future travel is awesome to look forward to.

I love my job, I get paid 11 bucks an hour to store boxes in a warehouse. It is simple and not time demanding. There will be a good 2 hrs a day where I will do nothing but sleep or surf the net.

I'm currently studying at university, and for a while I didn't have a job. Just a month or two ago I got a part time job as a waiter.

I like it in the sense that I like working with my hands for a change, having money to spend (maybe even buy a new computer); and it feels great at the end of a shift to have been on my feet all day getting fitter and to have been busy enough that an 8 hour shift didn't drag on like an eternity (like in some other jobs).

My job's great. I work for a University, so there's still a very "uni student"-type atmosphere to it. Sure there's work, but the dress code is very relaxed... and the people I work with are really cruisy. I look forward to going to work.. what's that tell you? hehe.

As with most people my opinion of my job changes time to time. It's a great job but crappy pay and not a 100% stable. Of course, I come and go as I please and am able to work from home.
