ever see a big chunk of rock burn up fallin to earth?

sitting in winter time in michigan a few years ago.. me and a buddy was smoking in a company cargo truck.. waiting on a last load of wood to take over to the other side of the plant..

in the night sky this huge red flame just appears going across our field of vision. At frist im thinking this is a plane that caught fire and is going down.. then it spinters off in to two small sections and one huge one.. as we watch the two smaller ones flare out the bigger one keeps going..

no mind you this was slow moving the sky.. lol to use it was about at a crawl..

yep chunk of rock burning up..

funny part about it.. we both looked up at the same time.. said holy shit its a nuke.. and fell silent wondering if we were just insane or actaully saw what we saw.. about two min after it was over we finally asked each other..

felt a little better knowing someone saw it.. then it was in the paper and on the news the next day heh..

wonderful seeing something like that and not having to read about it and go..

shit missed that bet it was cool.

anyone else here get to see something similiar?

I am somewhat of an amateur astronomer, and have seen lots of cool stuff such as meteorites and sattelites. I love it.

On really dark nights in the summer (no moon) my son and I sit out and watch for meteorites... we almost always see some...

i mean ive seen meteor showers and such growing up in louisiana.. but this

frist time in my life i had ever seen a moving object in the sky emit a flame of fire.. most of the time it was just deep read with a tint of yellow.. but as is lowered some what on its path it turned green and blue then back to red with more yellow.. I have seen on tv the same thing.. but still its not the same as seeing it live. Happened over the Cadillac, MI region.. ill try and see if there is still a link to it if there is.. and post it later.

One night, I saw a bright light fall from the sky and disappear out of sight behind distant hills. Never heard anything about it; there was a top secret naval base out that way, so who knows?

Once saw the shuttle Columbia racing across the sky in the early morning; it arrived late enough to catch the morning sun, but early enough that the sky hadn't lightened yet; so it was a clearly visible ball of light, the brightness of Venus, only moving west to east. Well, it didn't actually fall from the sky -- _that_ morning.

I was walking home from a game of late afternoon hide-n-seek one Summer around dusk, when I was a kid, and saw a streak of light in my peripheral vision coming from behind me off to the side.
I turned slightly and saw a green glowing streak of light moving past me about 25ft., above and to the right of where I stopped.
It wasn't moving very fast, which surprised me, 'cause I thought meteorites traveled fast. I guess because it was mostly burnt up it didn't have much mass left and was able to be influenced by wind currents. (it was traveling, at a guess, on a 45° angle)
I was also surprised it was green. Minerals in it, maybe.

I didn't see what happened to it other than knowing it entered the woods that bordered our property. (no fire)

All in all, in was a fascinating experience.

Maybe. . . a couple of months ago I saw this huge bright thing falling to earth.
It might have just been something that looked like a meteorite.

Absolutely incredible sight! I was on my honeymoon in Cancun eating dinner by the pool on the terrace and saw a shower of the buggers come down very close to the ocean/us. It was a sight I'll never forget!

never really seen one, but i was out in the field yesterday and i cam apon a 4X4 ft hole in the ground that looked like it could have been a meteorite. i didnt give it much thought though, just kept on going

now i am curious, im going to go check it out.

I see them on a regular basis. I guess I'm just lucky, eh?

We had one a few months ago that sailed right above the house in the middle of the night. I was watching television and caught a flash of color out the picture window. It seemed to barely sail right over the tree that borders the house.

Didn't make a noise as I recall, but the sight was amazing.
