The worst kind of compliment
 

Had someone tell me today that I look like a 30 year old. I am 21 :(. Maybe I am not getting enough sleep or something. This really hurt.

i thought only people over 29 were that sensitive ;)

maybe a shave and haircut will help you look younger.

people thought that I was in my late 20's at least back in my military days when I was no more than 19-21; that always struck me as more as of a good compliment.

thats the odd part, i am clean shaven and have an extremelly short haircut. Has to be stress related or something. What could i do?

Did you tell them what your actual age was? If so just think how horrified they probably were at their own error. lol

I resemble that remark. I am 30. 30 doesn't look THAT bad. Maybe they just think you act mature?

I often get people asking my boss how old I am because I look waaaaay too young to be in my line of work. I don't like it, so the reversed age thing can work against you too.

Yesterday while I at work this lady was talking to another couple who had a baby. The lady told the couple that she would be a grandmother soon.

A few minutes later I called this lady "ma'am" and she immediatly told me not to call her ma'am, because it makes her feel old. She then went on to say that she probably wasn't even older than me. I'm 21.

I don't know who this lady was trying to fool, but she did not look like she was even in her 30's, much less early 20s :)
(And I don't look like I could *possibly* be a grandfather any time soon)

30 aint so bad, Im 30 and still get carded. I did start getting bothered buy it but then I realized I might be able to swing it in my favor...convince some college ladies I'm younger than I am...

Just be glad its not the other way around, i work with a guy that if it wasn't for his facial hair he wouldn't look a day over 15 and he is 31 with 3 kids. We went to Vegas a couple of years ago and I had just turned 21 and he was 29, he was always carded (even with the facial hair) and I was never carded it just made him feel smaller and smaller every time.

I have people think I'm in my late twenties or early thirties all the time even though I'm 24. It gets annoying after a while.

Maybe it is what you are wearing. I know that when in a tee-shirt and jeans, I look like an 18 year old, but in my business casual, I look 25.

Also, get more sleep and regain some energy- you lose that youthful glow when you are tired.

Kickin' around in jeans and t-shirt i look 17, 18 tops (just another big high schooler) but dressed up I like every bit of 24 or 25, though I'm 23.

A woman in my office told me that she thought I was 36 or 37 a couple of weeks ago. I am 27. I give her a hard time everytime I see her. And I always thought I looked a little young for my age...

People used to think ratbastid was about 10 years older than he was. He didn't look bad, and he didn't look particularly old, there was just something about him that made people think he was 30 and not 20. Now that he's 30, people still think he looks 30. Maybe it's something more about your bearing than about your face or anything. Take it as a compliment and move on.

i get both sides of that.. people always think that i am the older brother( my brother is 24 i am 20), and then sometimes i get people thinking i am 16... it doesnt really bother me either way because i know people are stupid.

I'm 21 and look a good 17-18 .. be happy with what you've got.

Looking 30 is not bad. However, when they say you're looking 40's, they've crossed the line...unless you are in your 40's.

Alot of people thought I was 28 when I'm really 20. I suppose that compared to others, I dress like a 30 yrs old people...

I dunno if that was a bad compliment but I'm still undecided on that...

I'm only 20, but have facial hair and never, and I mean never, have I been carded. But last week when I went to see Kill Bill Vol. 2, the ticket dude asked for i.d.. I thought that was odd.

Ya know... Some people aren't exactly specialists in determining someone's age by looking at them. Just because you fit one person's idea of what 30 looks like, doesn't make it a fact. I was 24 and still got asked for papers when buying cider (age limit was 18). When I was 19, I got asked by a kid whether I was male or female. Really, it doesn't matter.

You made her feel old,She insulted you for exaclty that reason.. take it in stride,You'll never see her again.

i was talking to some chick the other day and she said i looked under 16.. i'm 19 and in college.. at least that shit didn't happen to you (probably)

it's hard to try to get hooked up with a college chick when she thinks you're in the 8th grade

I think it has to do with the way you act too. I can act like a kid at times, but I can act like an older "mature" (I guess) person as well when I need too. I get both younger and older.
