Men which pocket do you carry your wallet in?
Hey guys, my father gave me three fashion tips when I was growing up which were as follows:
1. Always carry a Hanky 2. Always wear a Belt with Blue Jeans 3. Always carry you wallet in you left back pocket Now while i've always worn a belt with jeans, I don't even own a "Hanky" and I have Always carried my wallet in the back RIGHT pocket... which always gets the standard "Boy you ain't right" response from my dad. Now he can't tell me why your supposed to carry it in you back left pocket he just says "because you supposed too". So I was wondering what the norm is? Is it Left or is it Right? And if anyone has a good reason for one pocket over the other let me know... BTW I am right handed which is why I think i started carrying it on the right. DB |
I always carry mine in my left, no real reason why. I'm left footed, and right handed. Keep wallet in back left pocket, and keep cellphone in right cargo pocket (when wearing cargo pants).
I'm confused as to the relevancy of this topic, let alone the poll options.
I carry my wallet in my front right pocket. Wallet in the back pocket is so.. vulnerable. |
Back right/right handed. Wont go in the front right, cash & keys. or front left smokes and phone. Not left handed so the back left is left for misc paperwork or small trash... whatever that was all worth.
Back right pocket, mainly because of being right handed. I've tried the back left a couple of times, but it just didn't feel right, kinda uncomfrotable. I guess my ass has just gotten used to the uncomfortable lump being on the right side.
I agree with Halx, I keep my wallet in my front pocket. Mostly out of paranoia of being pickpocketed, but also because I think it's really uncomfortable sitting on a wallet.
I carry my wallet in the front right hand pocket. Sitting on a wallet all day on already uncomfortable chairs isn't a great combination for me. And like Halx mentioned, I feel it is vulnerable.
Back right pocket unless i'm feeling paranoid then it goes to the front. Ideally I put it in my jacket inside pocket.
Normally, I keep it in my right back pocket. Some pants/shorts can be uncomfortable like this. When I go to concerts, I switch it to the right front.
normally back left pocket unless I have reason to (not in these parts ever) carry it in a more secure fashion; also where I carry my main pen unless I am wearing cargo pants or something that has pockets on the legs for it.
Left-handed for absolutely everything except my jump shot and that was just because no one taught to shoot me with my proper hand and I copied everyone else. Can't make a right handed layup to save my life though or do much else offensively with it on the basketball court. <back on topic> my back right pocket is only for my pocket knife or box knife; feel almost naked not carrying some kind of blade. May also carry my frequently present small notebook back there and a backup pen. </back on topic> Quote:

back right. Sitting on it is a no-issue, the pocket is high enough that you don't actually sit on it.
On the other hand, if I were to carry it in the front pocket, it would get in the way when sitting down. Maybe you guys were more baggy pants than I'm used to? |
theres no option for me...
i carry my wallet in my right HAND... and i dont wear a belt and i dont have a hanky |
i don't like carrying my wallet in my back pocket, i'm always worried about being pick pocketed. i normally carry my keys and cell phone in my right pocket and wallet in my left.
i'm a student that wears baggy pants so i hate sitting on it too. if i'm wearing cargo pants, the wallet goes in the side pocket. |
If I'm wearing baggy pants, it goes in my front left pocket. Mobile phone goes in the front right.
If my pants are tighter, ie. not very loose, I put it somewhere else. A bag, glove compartment, anything. I actually shouldn't carry it in my pants altogether, it looks ugly, and it makes marks on my jeans - there is no way of hiding that I always carry my mobile phone in my jeans, as the outline of it is visible even if it's not in there... |
I wear my wallet in my right back pocket when standing and in my right front pocket when sitting. Sitting on a wallet has been shown to cause back problems and besides, its uncomfortable. I am left handed as well.
yeah right front pocket, hate it in my back, to uncomfterble when I'm sitting.
right back pocket. it easily fits into the groove worn into my right buttock through years of wallet abuse.
I've got a small little wallet from Fossill, basically a money clip and holder for my DL and a couple of cards about the size of a bill folded in half. I carry it in my front right pocket.

Left handed, left back pocket.
If i'm wearing shorts, generally cargo style, they go in the left front/lower front pocket. |

Front left. Keys in the front right, cell phone in the pocket on my right leg (I own almost exclusively those Old Navy Painter style jeans)
Front right....your poll is Broken!!
Front left. What, you don't have front pockets?
front right....
in my front left go my keys and pocketknife |
Front left is my wallet, ID, front right is cell phone keys.
Front pockets, right or left whatever i put it in last, i dont really make a concious decision about it, same with phone and keys. I didnt know people put thought into it :)
I keep my wallet in the back right pocket, unless that pocket is sort of ripped off (as it is on quite a few pairs of my jeans), then it goes in the back left pocket.
I've tried keeping it in my right front, and back left. Nothing feels comfortable like right rear.
Front left. Keys go in front right. Cell phone in breast pocket, or front right.
Sometimes, it migrates into my jacket. I don't put things in my back pockets. |
Front left. Keys, pocket knife, and pen in front right. Sitting on my wallet and keys is uncomfortable. That and easier to pick pocket. Plus, my father has had back problems his whole life. One of his doctors told him to move his wallet to his front pocket. Something to do with posture. I do not know if this is true or not but I use it as another reason to not carry it in my back pocket.
Front Right, Prada...Gotta keep that bitch safe....
I carry mine in the front right. When you drive long distance
it tends to put a kink in your back. Then again my wallet is fat with pictures and supermarket discount cards! |
Front right. For all the various reasons that other front carriers have mentioned.
I'm a girl, but I carry a wallet- it's much simpler than a purse. I used to keep it in my right back pocket, but it started to wear holes in my jeans so I switched to the left pocket. It took about a week to get used to it, but it's fine now.
Back right pocket but this is a recent change. Most of my pants were showing a little wear and tear along the edge lines (especially jeans) where the wallet was pushing out along the left pocket. That's why I've switched to a right.
I don't think it matters much so you should make fun of your Dad for being a leftie. |
Front pocket. I don't like sitting on things. I also think it's more secure there.
I've never carried a hanky and wear belts as little as possible. |
Can we have the poll changed to allow front pockets?
It falls out continously in my back pocket, and it hurts like hell when is it down. I carry it in my right-front. -Lasereth |
No wallet for years. My money clip and ID go in the front right.
Right back for me. Ive tried the left a few times, but my ass cant adjust, lol.
Right back pocket here. My ass is so used to that lump that it feels weird if there is no wallet back there, or if I put it in another pocket.
Wallet #1 in back left pocket
Wallet #2 in back right pocket Cigarettes in front right Zippo in small 5th pocket Keys in front left pocket Pen clipped to the inside of front left pocket |
Got rid of the wallet 15 years ago. Just a money clip that cash, drivers license and one credit card go in. (If I can't get by on that, I'm not trying.) That's in the front left; change and keys in the front right. The best side benefit is that it forces me to deal with all the receipts and other crap on a daily basis.
Back right. Always.
Front right pocket for the wallet. Front left pocket for everything else... I don't think I ever used the back pockets for anything.
umm how bout normal right pocket
Wallet: back right pocket.
Keys: front left pocket Phone: front right pocket. So now you all know how to pick my pockets. |

I have always carried my wallet in my right back pocket when I'm not wearing a coat with an inside pocket. |
ALWAYS front right. It drives me absolutely insane anywhere else. How do you sit with a 2½ inch block under one ass cheek!?
Wallet in my right rear, gun in my right front if i'm not wearing a coat, keys etc. in my left front.
I am a back right pocket person...though, my Dad and all his brothers carried it in thier left back pocket. I remember him saying that the wallet goes into the left pocket. Tried it a few times on the left, cant stand it on that side. Left pocket is for my pocket knife and comb.
Front left for me. I carry a money clip. Gave up on a wallet along time ago. My left ass bone started hurting from sitting unevenly.
definitely right back
its just routine |
Wallet - Left rear.
Keys - Left front. |
Back right for me. Except when I was in Spain, where I moved it to my front right because of the risk of being pickpocketed.
wallet right/ cell left.. though maybe i should switch because when i grab my phone i always end up throwing it across the room.
What!? No left front option for wallet? Or its just me thats "crazy" ? ...'cause I carry my wallet in my left front pocket...
Back right...no real reason why, it just feels right.
Wallet, keys, pen in front right. Cell phone in front left (Mmm, cancer). Back pockets are unused; I don't like sitting on things because it makes me think about how I am breaking and/or deforming them.
Wow thanks for all the responses guys... I don't know why but it has never occured to me to carry my wallet in one of my front pockets.... interesting...
I will attempt to add front pockets to the poll.... It seems that I cannot edit the poll sorry to all you front pocket carriers out there... DB |
Back left pocket (I'm left handed). But if I'm at a bar or club, I put it in my front pocket. There was a point where I would alternate back pockets to sort of even out my ass in the night, but that just got to be stupid.....in other words, I just forgot about it after doing it for 3 days.
edit: that is if I don't have my wallet on its chain. If the chain is hooked up, it stays in the back pocket. |
let's get this changed to a front pocket poll!! I never, ever, ever carry my wallet in my back pocket......as Halx said, it's way too vulnerable. The only time I ever did it was at a race in Bristol, TN and the damn thing fell out in the bleachers. Some redneck turned it in for me, thankfully. I didn't have any money in it, even better. Thank God for honest rednecks :)

I carry my wallet in my right side pocket which leaves my back pocket for a hanky. Belts go through those loops around the waistband. Everything in its place.
Left front, along with my Craftsman 41466.
Leatherman PST, keys, pen, and change in right front. The only people who carry their wallets in their hip pockets are foolish and/or whose wallets are on chains. |

I was back right when I drove a Geo Prizm, but when I got my MR2, I had to switch....I sat down once in my MR2's sport seats with it in my back right pocket and said...um...this ain't gonna work. That was over a year ago, and it's been front right ever since. |
Front right for wallet, yes on the belt with jeans and no on the hankerchef - storing snot in my pocket is something I generally frown upon.

Right front for my wallet, mobile typically will go in my left cargo pocket or left front if I'm not wearing cargos along with keys hanky (yes I have a hanky, many in fact).
Putting anything of value in the back pockets to me is jnust asking to have it pinched. Also I just hate sitting on the crap - makes your arse sore! |
I never keep my wallet in my back pocket because of pickpocket thieves.
Since my encounter with a pickpocket I always keep my wallet in my front pocket. It was later in the evening around 11:30 pm when my ex-wife and I were at the local 24-hour Super K-Mart buying some cheap bookshelves. She stood ahead of the shopping cart and I was behind the shopping card holding the large box steady. Well I noticed this guy stand in line behind me, then started approaching closer and closer. I noticed out of the corner of my right eye the guy’s head. It seemed as if he was trying to rest his chin on my right shoulder he was so close, then I felt a tiny tug at my back left pocket. I swing around and the guy jumps back and quickly wanders off. NEVER again will I ever keep my wallet in my back pocket. When I was a kid I watched some guy try to pick my dad’s wallet. We were in a crowded out door market and at the time my dad had his wallet in his front pocket. So some guy walks by quickly, notices something sticking out slightly from my dad’s back pocket and pulls. The guy walking past had pulled out the lining to my dad’s back pocket instead of making off like a thief. Then there was the time I had a hole in my pocket and my wallet fell out in a movie theater. I felt something hit my feet and I thought it was garbage from the guy behind me. So what do I do? Kick it down to the row head of me. Turns out I kicked down my wallet to the guy in front of me. I noticed the guy bend over a couple of times during the movie and glance back at me. He took all my cash, left the wallet and credit cards and dropped it back on the floor. A really dumb move on my part but I took all the precautions I could and had all my accounts closed and new account numbers issued just in case. |
back right for me... if i try it the otherway i cannot sit right
I hate wallets, so i try not to carry them whenever I can.
depends on what i am wearing - jacket with an inner pocket? then it goes there - otherwise with jean: back right
Either right rear or right front depending on what pants I'm wearing and whether I'm going to be sitting a lot.
Right Back. I wear my pants low enough that I'm not actually sitting on the wallet, its just under my leg.
Front left for me. Saftey and all :)
I don't carry a wallet.
I do have a money clip in my front right, and a small business card holder with credit cards and id in the my front left. I don't know why. |
Right front, or left front, whichever. I have NEVER carried it in the back pocket. Ever. And don't intend to.

Wallet in the back right pocket, because I'm right handed. When I wear pants, I wear a belt.. Jeans, Khakis, etc. |
Used to carry right rear (Yeah, I have a chain-driven wallet), but moved it to the front due to back issues. anything I carry is either in the front pockets or hanging off the right side of my belt.
Always left back pocket, since some pants I've worn and currently wear only have a back pocket on the left side. Even though I'm right-handed, I take out my wallet with my left hand through sheer force of habit. As for the hanky, I've always had one on me (back right pocket) since I arrived in Japan, because many bathrooms do not have any hand dryers or disposable towels. I'll probably still carry one when I'm back in Montreal... those things are really convenient!

I see the left back pocket is not all that popular -- The reason I keep my wallet there is that I'm left handed and it just seems natural.
I'm a die hard back-right, I tried the back-left last week for one day just to see how big of a differece it made. I only lasted half an hour before I switched back
Well, in the past I've carried it in my back right pocket. After reading this thread, though, I'm thinking that I'm not paranoid enough.
So from here on out I'm going to carry it around in my teeth. That oughta keep it safe, except when I'm at a restaurant. |
Back right = wallet
Back left = cash Being from NY, I always carried my cash seperately from my wallet, except for an emergency $20 in my wallet. Cell/pager = front right Keys/papers = front left |
Right rear. I am right handed and it feels right. I take it out when i drive, to be more comfortable. Sitting on that lump for ten hours can give you a sore butt.
Interesting. At this point I am the only person to carry their wallet in a cargo pocket, always on the left side. I always find that it's awkward and difficult to pull a wallet out of the front or back pockets while sitting down, especially in a car, so just being able to reach down and slide it out of the side pocket works pretty well for me.
cell and maybe pen goes front left, keys front right.
therefore, not enough room so wallet has to go to back right. if it's not there, it feels weird like something's missing. i want a money clip though... just havn't gotten a chance to buy one. |
My wallet shall forver be in my front left pocket, I'm right handed and I frequently have stuff going in and out of my pockets so I keep it out of the way.
Wallet: Front Left (left handed)
Hanky: Back right Cell phone: Front right Keys: Front right Pens/pencils: Front Left Any papers/ gloves: Back left |
Left back pocket. It feels so weird to have it in any other pocket.
I'm traditional, back right pocket
I am left handed and carry in my back right.
My father always carried in his front left but I always thought he was being paranoid... besides after a while you get a nasty wallet outline on your thigh. If I am feeling the need for more saftey (ie crowds, etc) I will move it to an inside jacket or a front pocket... |

I keep it in my back right pocket, I don't wear baggy pants so I don't sit on it, and because I don't wear baggy pants I can always tell when my wallet is not in my pocket. Not that the awareness causes any problems, but it's in the feeling, I'm not afraid someone will pick-pocket me. Most people don't expect a woman to carry a wallet anyway. I also have a hanky, but I only use it at night and it sit's next to my bed if my nose decides to fight me and I can't breathe(I have bad allergies). Also it's washed often. But I never carry it around with me, that's disgusting and unsanitary. As for the belt with jeans, I don't even own a belt. |
