Highrises with view of Nude Beach?

Hello TFP'ers ...Just posted my intro in newbies!
and now doing a first post! ...thanks for the welcome! :D

Was checking out Fark and found an artical on the developments planned for UBC!
Highrises to be developed with views of Vancouvers Wreck Beach :hmm:

you can find the link HERE --->
http://www.canada.com/edmonton/edmon...5-12a2123919c7

I watched the threads and was dismayed to find how many misinformed people who replied that have "The mentality of a small empty soapdish!"

Just wondering now about your thoughts.... and input into this issue!

Just so you know... As far as privacy goes… yes it is a public beach but is respectably concealed from the city
And getting there you have to completely cross the University Endowment (not a pun) Lands
Which is a fair size… not to mention the trail leading down to the beach is enough to deter your average pervert

Here is a link to the beach site....
http://www.wreckbeach.org/wb_frames.html
and reading etiquette... gives you the senario and rules expected at the beach!

Thanks for the input....
Because your opinions matter!
and others always have their own...
But ain't that the best part about debate?

Any Wreck Beachers visit here... or have you been to the beach?

Loving the Sunshine ~:BClonghair:~

Welcome to TFP.

This should be a non-issue, but I suppose it would be interesting to find out if the planners considered the location as a perk in the general plan. Construction workers probably took a bit longer for the job.
I also saw this on fark and actually didnt go beyond the farkline.
Actually just wanted you to feel welcome, enjoy.

<--- grabs trench coat and binocculars. anybody want to go to the beach?

in a purely naturalist view, those buildings would ruin the whole vibe of that beach in more than one way. when one goes off on the naturalist front, (i'm assuming) they're doing so to surround themselves in a natural environment, and from the descriptions of this area, they're pretty well walled off by foliage... not a bad view, i'm sure. to see tall buildings peeking over that foliage would ruin the effect of the set-aside area, so i completely agree with those who are against the construction.

Spying on a nude beach is most likely not nearly as fun as it sounds.

I agree that spying on a nude beach is for the most part not all that fun, but I've personaly been to this beach and it'd be a shame to be able to see buildings peaking over the treeline up the hill.

It's a great spot to go for sunset in Vancouver.

I have one thing to say.

Lots of naked old wrinkly people.

Actually two things.

Lots of naked old wrinkly people, and lots of naked ugly/fat people.

Enough said.

Wreck Beach is a very nice place (or, at least it was on the one visit I paid to it about 5 years ago). It had the most "community" feel of the nude beaches that I have visited.

I'd love to have an apartment right next to it, to make it a much easier walk to the beach.

"We want to be neighbourly," he said. "We are going to ensure we don't encroach on the privacy of the bathers. We will make the necessary arrangements.

"If a building has to have some storeys lopped off, we will."

Pavlich said in June, UBC will be testing the visibility down onto the beach, and will lower the building heights if they're causing a problem.
OK, now I finally read the article. Student housing, and they plan to verify the sight lines before building. Non-issue.

Looks like a non-issue now. Good detective work redlemon. ;)

It is only a novelty for a little while. While living in New Orleans, my office had a view of a hotel room where there was a swimming pool where girls would sunbathe topless. I had my binoculars ready to go at any time for the first few months. After a while, it got to be boring.

Well, it looks like the developers are going to be sensitive about it, from what someone posted above. But really, if too many people were leering down from the new buildings on a regular basis, eventually, the nudists would simply pack up and leave.

Where I live, we actually have one or two nude beaches in town, down at the bottom of some cliffs. There's a public bike path/hike path at the top of the cliff alongside a street, and people do stop and look from time to time -- they're small beaches, not all that many nudists -- but there are plenty of big rocks to break up the line of site for lookyloos. And frankly, all us locals know exactly what somebody staring down at just that spot on the cliff is doing, as we pass by on foot or bike or in cars. So usually the peeping toms get self-conscious and move on after a minute or two.

Most of the rest of us couldn't care less. Women going topless in this town is considered free speech (politically, that is) and is protected by law. It's not like you're going to get a boob or a weener, even, in your face everytime you walk down the street but we've all been there, seen that and bought the t-shirt.

Welcome to fark!

Seriously, that site is full of morons, the main part of the site is pretty good, but I stay well away from the "discussions"!
