Radio control and '96 telecom act

I'm doing research on the increase in corporate control of radio broadcasting from World War II era to today. So far what I'm finding is that during WWII, the office of wartime information (propaganda department) had some influence over what was played. It seems like these days the ones doing the influencing are ClearChannel, Citadel, and the other major radio giants. There was the blacklisted songs after 9/11, and then there's some relatively new stuff with the war in Iraq, such as Dixie Chicks songs not being played by Citadel stations after the anti-Bush comment. Then there's also the really disturbing stuff, like ClearChannel sponsoring, organizing, and broadcasting pro-war rallies.

Anyone have any comments or ideas about this?

If you could back up stuff you say with links, I'd appreciate it too. For some reason teachers don't like it when you cite message boards, at least not without backing up the info.
