I would think as a journalist, secretary, writer in general it's an invaluable skill, basically anything with alot of writing it's an invaluable thing. And to pass that, should really give you an edge over the competition, congrats

That's really awesome! Court reporters are pretty steady & well paying jobs, and knowing shorthand is the key to getting those. I congratulate you on passing your test.
However, 100 words a minute seems a little low. There are some people (myself included) who are capable of *typing* up to 110 or 120 words a minute, on QWERTY keyboards. I've heard of people using Dvorak keyboards that do even better. As I'm deaf, I have a stenographer help me out by typing up a lecture for me in real time when I'm there. I am positive that I couldn't type that fast under any circumstances, so the rate has to be closer to 200-250 WPM (which is about the average human conversation rate, although some rappers have been known to push it much higher). Sometimes she types 45 pages of stuff in a single 75-minute lecture. And that's really hard on her hands. I'm not trying to put you down, but I'm guessing you have more practice to do before you could work in jobs that use shorthand. Maybe you could elaborate on what's involved? Thanks!
