Stupid Quizno's ad
http://www.quiznos.com/images/contest_creatures.jpg
If I'm a restauranteur, the second least desireable image I'd want to present to my customers are rats, especially when they're this ugly. (The least being cockroaches.) Someone in Quizno's marketing should be flogged at the next shareholder's meeting over this. If I were a franchisee, I'd seriously consider litigation or going independent. This ranks right up there among the most stupid marketing gimmicks ever. Definitely in the league with the Chilito (Taco Bell, early 90s, "chili burrito" named using Spanish term for "little penis"), Unleash the Beast (Milwaukee's Best :hmm: beer, mid 90s, "the beast" refers to what the stuff does to your digestive tract), and the Wingmaster (KFC, current, "wingmaster" is someone who earns "red wings" twice voluntarily or thrice while intoxicated), and Pepsi's Chinese slogan which properly translated to "brings your Ancestors back to life." |
Wow, that ad makes me not want to eat there. :) That's disgusting. If they took the rats out and made it say "Click here to get a dollar off" then it would be like 100 times better. Ha ha.

There are no ads that appeal to me or entice me to buy an item. I will go for the best deal over a cute chihuahua, a gecko, or a toucan any time.
This ad executive needs to go back to the drawing board. |
my friends and I were talking about it last night. either they are about to go broke or the marketing guys got slipped something. the commercial is repulsive and I had to see it 3 times just to be able to actually understand it. gets a double thumbs down from me...
|
my wife hides underneath the sheets when that commercial comes on. i find it obnoxious and stupid. but i think she is genuinely repulsed by it.

WE LIKE THE MOON!
Seriously though, the flash animation those two come from is rather cute and funny in an odd sort of way. |

Okay, I may get shunned for saying this, but those ads are starting to grow on me!
I hated them just as much as anyone else at first, but they're slowly starting to make sense. |
For those who havent seen the flash animation, or the commercials:
http://www.quiznos.com/images/contest_creatures.jpg Click that link, and be disgusted. By far the worst commercials I have ever seen. I hereby pledge my allegiance to subway. The squeaky voices, 1st grader lyrics, godawful guitar, and awful animation are by far the worst assault on the senses that I have ever had over television. |
yea that commercial will make you want to stick a fork in your eye and spoons in your ears
|
If Quiznos didn't have much better subs than Subway, I think this ad would have put me of o them forever. It's like their success with the guy raised by wolves has lead them to believe that the worse press an ad gets the better it is for them. Well, the wolf guy was clever, but this is merely revolting. I have a feeling that they are going to lose business to mom & pop delis over this one.
Feh! |

I love that commercial! What's everybody talking about? It's weird, I agree, but that's what makes it cool. Besides, Quizno's has some good eats. I particularly like the rat with the pirate hat, I also like their mangled teeth. I have never seen anything like it, so I like it.
|
The first time I saw the commercial I stopped with a fork halfway to my mouth and it stayed there for the duration of the commercial. I just sat and gaped. I didn't quite know what to think.
Now, I laugh my ass off when I see it. I think they're hilarious, and I don't think they're rats. They look like gerbils. |
Quote:
That's easily the best flash ever. Viking kitties. Did you know VH1 ripped them off too? You can't believe how pissed off that made me. I really hope they paid them for that shit and just didn't steal it. In terms of commercials, this is way less stupid then some of the other crap I've seen (e.g. ones that make me say "Wow, you made a bad pun. Good job asshole."). Funny writers are an endangered species. |

Quizno's has always had terrible ads. I didn't think they could outdo the stupidity that was their previous "raised by wolves" ads, but they proved me wrong.
|
We have new york sub or pizza here (i don't remember) and they have radio commercials. It's basically a new york sounding guy that uses bleeped f-bombs every other word. He said in one commercial "I dare you to find better f*cking food anywhere, if you don't like it I'll send my cousin, Chino, over to your house and he'll break your f*cking legs" Granted this is all in jest and it is pretty funny, but maybe this shock value advertising is actually working.

not quite. vh1 paid joel to produce those spots, and he does a regular show in the uk's mtv, i think. as far as the spongmonkeys (what those little guys are called), they're not my favourite rathergood invention, but they're still funny stuff. the problem is that they're taking a humour that is funny to a small amount of people and trying to force it into the mainstream. joel's stuff isn't for everyone, nor is weebl (jonti, the guy who did badger badger badger and the weebl and bob series)'s stuff, but they're both producing commercials. good for them. they made it big and are making some money off of it. |
If I did not know how good their subs were, I would never go in one based on that ad. The one near me went out of business close to 5 years ago.
In the list of bad marketing ideas, you forgot the Nova. Chevy thought it would go over big in Mexico, but the name means "no go" in Spanish. |
This is precisely why Quiznos has an outstanding marketting strategy! 1) You definitely remember it. 2) You definitely know it was a Quiznos ad and 3) you are discussing it and spreading it your friends! What more could an ad exec ask for?
Does anyone remember the Quiznos ad from a few months ago with the man suckling from a wolf? |
Quote:
i've had teachers in car/materials classes say that the nova did reasonably well in spanish speaking markets. turns out most of them knew it was named after that little astronomical term "nova" and not "no go" which is two words, "no va". now what your saying could still be true of course. I'm just saying i've come across differant sources suggesting that it's false. on rathergood.... i really like mango biscuits and the laibach kittens for some reason. yet i find that most of the stuff on the site (90%) is just outright annoying. |
God at least is isn't Britany Spears trying to sell me something. Or Pepsi showing me how cool they are bu buying songs for me to download for "free". Give me the damn rats any day.
|
I absolutely hate that commercial! I could not believe it the first time I saw it, and every time it comes on since then (it seems like every commercial break) I either flip the channel, or mute the TV. I can't stand it! I didn't know it was based on an internet fad, but honestly, having just visited it, I find it just as stupid and annoying. I can't believe any marketing exec would actually think this was in any way a good idea that would somehow create greater sales. I've vowed to stop buying Quizno's until I don't see these commercials anymore.
|
I briefly saw a part of that ad on a TV at work, I was too annoyed by it to stay to find out who was trying to sell me what.
I never went to Quiznos before, and I still don't have any desire to |
I agree, tritium.
Personally, i do think them a bit silly... thought of rathergood.com, too. I would not stop going there because of one goofy ad. There are much more important things in this world to be concentrating on. Like sex or something. |
wtf.
That's all I thought about when i saw that commercial. |
The commercial is cool.
WE LOVE THE SUBS! COZ THEY ARE GOOD TO US! and THEY HAVE A PEPPER BAR. |
*cough*
I bought the wrong banannas. Edit: I guess I should clarify and note that the link is to a little ditty by rathergood.com |
Damn girl. I was just thinking about having a pizza, and that really turned me off...just glad there are no franchizes down here..I wouuld rate that right up there with the tripa they cook and eat at the flea markets...(tripe)...
|
To the original poster: My thoughts EXACTLY. If I were hungry and in wanted to try out new food...the last place I would try is a place that advertises their store with ugly rats...
|
I think the ad is meant to appeal to a certain internet-savvy audiance who would have seen those rat things on www.rathergood.com. I personally couldn't believe it when I saw them on TV... I think think that website was so popular! I thought it was pretty funny. I bet there is a good segment of viewers who would see that commercial, laugh, and totally REMEMBER that ad, which would make them want to go to Quiznos. I don't think it's any different than the ads that take themselves too seriously... either way, it is just aiming at different audiances.
|
I liked it, and never seen rathergood.com.
/shrug |
I have only eaten at Quizno's once and after being subjected to this bit of "advertising", I use this term loosely, I don't think i'll be seaching them out.
|
i actually found it pretty funny
|
I personally love Quiznos, especially the Mesquite Chicken with Bacon......damn its good.
But Tritium is hitting the nail on the head: Jingles are made with simple noets so you remember them and they "get stuck in your head." This is what they want. Quiznos used these annoying rats in a commercial and now everyone is talking about them...good for Quiznos. The more people talk about the ad, the more people will be interested in the ad or Quiznos itself. I think the ad execs will call this one a success |

Quiznos would be alright, if they put any damn meat on the sammich

I've never even gone to quiznos so it won't make a difference for me really. We don't have any within 45 mins of where we live. I hadn't seen the ad yet either. I clicked that link though and my 3 yr old daughter who was sitting here watching cartoons noticed it. She asked "What are those?" I answered "Mice" She said "They aren't mice. I don't like them." Ha ha Out of the mouths of babes. It is most definately poor advertising, wierd and distastful. People most definately don't want to look at rodents when thinking about food. Definate appitite suppressants.
|
Agreed, the commercials may be bad but the subs--mmm, toasty.
|
Good lord, I cant believe how large this thread has gotten... All over a stupid Quiznos coupon... ;)
|
I just saw it!! I was posting another topic and I actually stopped typing, turned my head, and thought "oh, good god...it's...THAT". Worst ad ever, especially since you really can't tell what the rats are saying.
What pisses me off the most, though, is that since I live in S. Eastern Pennsylvania....THERE'S NOT A FUCKING QUIZNO'S WITHIN 100 MILES OF HERE!! Why are they still playing the goddam ad?!? |
Ok, So i just saw this ad on tv.
All i have to say is: "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" Thankyou. |
I found the commercial stupidly funny, totally inoffensive and am busily clipping coupons to get my dollar off.
|
shit the flash from rathergood.com is way worse than that. I hate those little fuckers.
|
I dunno, rathergood seems very "British" to me (yeah I know it actually IS British, I mean in terms of humour). maybe that's why you're all puzzled.
Edit: On the other hand... those ads are like rathergood without any of the quirky endearing humour. Still, you got to get paid I suppose. |
Man, some of you guys are really easily disgusted.
|
oh god i can't breathe! hahahahahahaha it was just so bad....
|
The commercial is annoying, but somehow funny at the same time.
|
its to anoying i will never eat there again
|
Not everyone can be beauty queens
|
I love quiznos to death, but that commercial sends me crindging for the mute button everytime it starts. Can't they just stick to showing the sandwiches?
|
quite possilby the worst ad campaign ever. why would you want to eat at a place that uses fucked up looking, uh, things, with some of the worst teeth I've ever seen. I get sick just watching them, I have to change the channel or something when they come on.
|
Yes Yes these adds are pretty damn retarded, makes me wonder who comes up with some of these things.
|
I may get flogged by all you, but I kind of find them silly in a wierd sort of way, they break away from the normal commercials. The commercials are so god awful it's funny.
Plus I think they look like mutant hamsters. And what's the deal with bringing in ANY coupon...how would that work? Oh well.... |
I love that comercial. I first saw it when I was rolling on morphine after my recent surgery. I did not really believe what I saw and chalked it up to really good pain killers. Then I saw it again with out morphine. I love it.
|
I have never eaten at a Quiznos and that comercial definately will not entice me to. Agree that the marketing people must be smoking something.
|
i dont give a shit about their god damn commercials... they food is better then almost anything iv ever eaten.. so end of discussion
|
Its all about something that makes you remember the commercial or product. And that commercial is definitely memorable and a stupid kind of funny. To me, that ad grew on me. I think that stuff is hilarious.
|
I asked a Quiznos manager the other day, "What's up with that freaky commercial?" His reply: "Yeah, fuckin creeps me out, too. Don't know what they're smokin at corporate."
I guess next they'll be advertising with roadkill or something. It does stick in your head, though. And, anyway, I agree with Runawayfetus. Since Quiznos opened here, I'll never go to another Subway. |
i love quiznos
i eat there alot the comerical is kinda creppy |
i found it funny at first but it didnt make me want quiznos....
now its just annoying! |
It's already been said, but I'm adding my voice. The commercials work. Look at how many people are talking about it. When was the last time you talked with your friends about the last Brawny paper towel ad???
|
Unfortunately, quizno's is what made me quit eating subway for good. Is the add in poor taste? Of course! Do I think it's funny! Hell yea!
Honestly i think it's just a lowbudget, goofball way of getting stuck in people's heads.. My girlfriend saw the commercial last night while half asleep - this afternoon she wanted Quizno's. Given a few minutes, i'm sure i could fine ad campaign's that are more offensive (at least to me) |
If they wanted to use some internet trend it should have been something from fark then it would have more mainstream, though I have to admit the ad is a success as many people have pointed out since we are all talking about it. Oh well, c'est la vie.
|
I hated this from the start, and I still do.. however I've been singing this ....all......night.....long... it's actually catchy.. I just want it to stop :(
|
I've never liked Quizno's anyway, and that ad is just icky.
|
I like those commercials. They get the message across with a medium that is totally stupid and irrelevant to the product, I think it's neat, those little rodents have no relation to anything Quizno's makes, it's totally stupid yet entertaining.
|
Everyone I know thinks those commercials are great. Quiznos owns.
The commercials are funny. |
It's still amazes me how so many people allow the media to influence choices that we make on where to eat, what to wear, what to drink/smoke..
I haven't seen the ad yet because watching TV isn't a usual occurance at my house. If I had seen it or had ever been to Quizno's it wouldn't change my mind if the food was good. For example, Arby's has that talking oven mitt which has a cutesy appeal to me. If rats were chosen to set the tone for the commercial instead I'd still hit Arby's because their roast beef is tasty along with their potato cakes and curly fries. I don't allow the media to manipulate my tastebuds. Are you going to? |

Say what you like, I for one enjoy this commercial. It's just so off-the-wall and dumb it amuses me. It won't get me into there store, or convince me to overpay for them to toast a sub, but I like the commercial.
|
Say something good about me, or say something bad about me....just make sure my name is spelled right. People are talking about it....it's a good thing.
|
Oh my god, seriously....what the hell is that thing?
|
I think it's a crackhead's portrayal of a guinea pig...I'm not sure though.
|
Actually, you can bring in any coupon to get $1 off. It doesn't have to be that specific one. You can bring in a furniture coupon and you'll get $1 off.
I know this because my brother works there. He told me about it and I was laughing so hard. |
Not trying to play the devils advocate but isn't the ad doing EXACTLY what it's supposed to in that EVERYONE on here is talking about it? How many people today have thought about and had a discussion on 'ABC building', or 'Green trees anonymous'? Probably noone. Yes i've seen the ad now and it is quite different. But in my opinion the fact that 'QUIZNOS' is on peoples minds has got to be the whole intention from them!
|
Neither I nor my lovely fiance' will ever eat at Quiznos again. That ad totally creeped us out. I work in television advertising as a writer/producer and I don't get it. I really don't get it. Sure it makes you remember the ad and the name of the business but not in a "Wow, I'm really hungry and am salivating for a Quiznos sub" kind of way, its more of a "I'm disgusted and irritated" sort of way. Weird, really weird.
|
These commercials are brilliant. They are borderline obnoxious, but you can't say you didn't take full notice of them. I mean, "or for hair plugs" and "beware of papercuts," its genious
|
That commerical bothers me, its like they are advertising they have gross mice in their food
|
my uncle owns three Quizno's in Grand Rapids Michigan. I'll have to have a talk with him about this add...
|
Has anyone noticed that they have the lyrics printed out now?
When I first saw it I think it was just the rats. The words have somehow made it less disturbing and more funny. Kinda grows on you in a twisted way. |
Quote:
|
I seem to be in the minority here, but the commercial is one of the few on tv right now that doesn't just piss me off.
Me and my friends love it. |
All I have to say is I felt my IQ was lowered by being subjected to that commercial. Lucky for me, I go to the local sub shop religiously, and not the franchised places. So Quizno's can stay far far away from my money.
|
I have been on rathergood.com for ages. I have to say it rules, especially the new 2.
http://www.rathergood.com/biscuits/ and http://www.rathergood.com/zoology/ |
Weird but funny enought to make you want to listen to the words and look at the little rats... I'm seeing it more and more during prime time, so it must be effective.
Personally, I like it...:p |
I think its hilarious, but also strange. I couldn't stop laughing the first time I saw it.
|
OK. I really hate that ad as much as anybody. But you have to admit. An ad's job is to get and hold your attention. And this one does that in spades.
Granted. It does not entice me to eat there. But it sure got my (And from the responses I see here, Yours too) attention. |
I think the gerbil hamster guinea pig things are scary as crap, but they've definitely got my attention. I'm not gonna forget this commercial for a while. It's quite fun trying to imitate the voices.
|
I've only eaten at Quizno's a handful of times (I'm more of a Subway-man... mmm, sweet onion sauce), but this commercial never fails to crack me up.
|
Those things are called SpongeMonkeys, there was a article on MSN yesterday that talked about this fucking things.
Personally, I think they are something made up by a guy/gal who had too many bad acid flashbacks and decided to put it down. My wife and I are sick and tired of these commericals, its just unreal. And seeing these things, don't make me want to buy a sub. V. |
